Huh? Didn't you mean "descent down" to British Steel? Because British Steel is one of the biggest pieces of crap released by Judas Priest. It's terribly overrated. My copy ended up as a frisbee! LMAO! Killing Machine on the other hand, the album that preceded British Steel, is like a million times better than British Steel!

lol! Yeah they were given to People that like Judas Priest that probably would of never bought the album but I didn't care,I just wanted Priest to have good sales from A.O.R.,didn't sell as many as I hoped but I'm still glad I supported them that way,not everybody can do this so if I'm able I'll do it again!  What would I recomend? I would probably recomend the 70's albums as well because from there they could climb up to British Steel and up....that would give them a good representation of the band's style and progress throughout the years ect...

Yep been a long time since I've been here, Good to see you JD.

On the topic of Iron Maiden getting more popular, Yes It certainly seems to be that way, I still see plenty of kids that are into Maiden. Still nobody seems to know Who Priest Is. I find that insulting! Although Priest may have got a little mroe fanfare from games like Guitar Hero, JP still lacks  the attention they deserve. Other pioneers in Metal seem to get plenty  of attention, Sabbath, Maiden, Metallica and Gunners all have their place, yet Priest seem to be well away from that group? On the brightside Metal never dies. Oh well I will continue to wear my priest shirts, and spread the word! Oh and anotehr thing, my mate literally just had a kid, decided to name him Eddie, after the Maiden mascot.

If someone happens to ask you about Priest what would you say/recommend? I Like to rant about the 70's albums. And Yes, your purchases of 6 AOR's was great! but yes I have a  habit of not giving the credit due! I hope that the copies you bought did go to good use! and that another 50 albums were bought because of that!
[J.D. DIAMOND] Wednesday, December 02, 2009 3:40:34 AM
Its you again, long time no see E.D.M. haven't seen this account in a while...oh what the hell I'll answer your post anyways.....

Spreading the word is better than nothing at all,Priest are getting less popular if anything while Maiden is getting MORE popular and its unreal....babies are born and thier first words are "Iron Maiden". Not that I don't like Maiden but they are overrated, they have too many mediocre and poor to have the hype that they actually have, they are riding off of thier first 5 studio albums even today.Priest needs thier legacy spread around as much as they can.....it would be sad in the future if a metal head is jamming to metal tunes and couldn't name the creaters of metal when asked...."who is Judas Priest"?? Could you imagine????

And buying 6 copies of Angel Of Retribution was MORE than "a fair effort" come on Epicus, even you can't deny that it is MORE than a fair effort.Buying 2 copies is a "fair effort".....I am insulted!! lol!

6 copies is a fair effort. Spreading the word is about all I do! I still remember trying to get a mate to listen to stainedclass a good 6 years ago, only to find that last week he had been listening to turbo. Maybe one day a decent fraction of humanity will understand the sheer brilliance of Priest;)

j.d.,

How right you are!!!!

I am special - just like everyone else thinks they are special.
On this space my opinion means the same as yours.
As far as putting out a disco album - I can't answer that one.  They haven't yet.  When they do I'll give you my opinion.
Yup, #1 JP fan in the world along with all the other self proclaimed JP fans.
"have no game" - please define, since that is your speculation.
"Geek" - yeah sure I'll admit I might be a geek.  But if you saw my life, then being a geek would be A-OKAY!!!
Sure pass along your "special instructions."  does not mean that I will follow them.

Oh and j.d. no need to reply to my post, because I will not reply to yours.

Cheers!

A friend of mine and I saw that show at The Castle in Charlevoix. I've got to say, THAT was a COOL venue! We had pretty crappy seats though, about halfway back - but at least it wasn't the lawn.

The dumbass was probably there to see Cinderella anyway..... everyone kept staring at me as I was singing along because it was quite obvious that no one had heard of this song! Didn't stop me for enjoying the hell out of it though!

It's completely understandable that Rob can't hit all the notes of Painkiller anymore, the Rob of today isn't the Rob of 1990 - it i almost 20 years later LOL! I'm just happy he and the rest of Priest still share their music with the world. I also would LOVE to see BTROD in the setlist! Preferably when they play in NZ LOL!   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by HOT ROCKIN' METAL GODDESS from Saturday, October 24, 2009 4:30:53 PM)

I agree Freeze, Rob most definitely does not sound the same as he did in the '90s. I remember leaving the Painkiller show in absolute and complete AWE of Rob's vocals. I still think back to that show and watch the bootleg of it and my jaw drops. But he was also NOT dead on in every show even back then if you watch other live performances. I don't know how you could be dead on every single show with as many as they do on a tour. At the Cleveland show this year, on VOC it was the same note he hit, however it doesn't sound the same because his scream isn't crystal clear like it used to be. I think that's it right there, it's not the crisp, crystal clear scream of old. But yes, like you said, it's still damn incredible and better than anyone on the planet can do.

There are so many other songs for Priest to do, they should drop Painkiller. But what I think is funny is that when they DID do Painkiller last year, people were bitching about Rob's voice on it. So this year, they DROP Painkiller from the set list and people are bitching because they want to hear Painkiller...... they just can't win!

I would LOVE for them to bring back Beyond the Realms of Death. I remember when they brought that song back on the Ram It Down tour. I screamed so loud half my section turned to look at me! Then after the song was over, some dude tapped me on the shoulder and asked what the name of the song was and what album it was off of. When I told him, he got a funny look on his face. I told him it was an AWESOME album and to GO BUY IT!

Thats what I am saying to Freeze and like D.O.E. said,I'd rather hear him in a lower range than see him desperately doubled over trying to screach out a note like the signiture scream in "Painkiller".....lol!  To hellrider out there....I have no doubt that maybe once in a blue moon Rob may have hit that scream when you saw them, but it is "VERY FEW" and far between,I've heard about 4 or 5 versions live of Painkiller since Rob has been back with Priest and all of them he comes up short with the Painkiller scream and he sounds like the wicked witch of the east when shes melting.....melting aaarrgghhhhhh!! LOL!!!

Or it sounds like a dying chicken or something!! lol!! The point is I would rather hear the guitar bend idea instead of the signature scream by Rob if they continue to do the Painkiller track....I wouldn't mind at all if either K.K. or Glenn used thier guitar and pinched the harmonic high pitch and bend it all the way down in place of Rob's vocals...that would be the smart thing to do since Rob can't hit that fucking note anymore!! lol!!

[Deep Freeze] Saturday, October 24, 2009 2:08:15 PM
I agree with much of that, my friend. However, I am big on "giving the fans what they want". That is a HUGE reason they did the BS tour this year rather than Nostradamus. Honestly, I have no problem with them doing Painkiller or any other song for that matter. It is not the setlist to which I refer so much as it is the myopic views of so many fans. Rob does NOT sing that song very well, as you mentioned. In fact, I cannot think of a scream in ANY song (including Sinner or VoC) in which he can actually hit the same notes he did on the respective albums. He CANNOT do it. Of course, as mentioned, he needn't hit the exact note for the scream to be astonishing.

I have just grown weary of so many people trying to convince us that during their particular show, Rob was "dead on" and hit "every note perfectly". Right..and on EVERY other gig he did not...just YOURS.  HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry. I do not buy it.  But as I said, I am all for them playing the old songs and all the favorites that so many of us hold dear. Just don't try to tell me he did it the same because we ALL know he cannot do it.

[DelivererofEvil] Saturday, October 24, 2009 1:27:03 PM

hear, hear DF

Regarding that, they just ought to switch the setlist to songs Rob CAN still nail. All the Painkiller fans, I'm sorry, but I'd rather have the Metal God shining in a lower range than seeing him doubled over, killing himself to give us a raspy, barely held screeched Painkiller. Bring in Victim of Changes! Beyond the Realms of Death! They are more suited to his voice now, and have only the occasional scream to which I think he is still capable of adapting. Island of Domination would rock on stage, imo. There are just so MANY good Priest songs that would be killer on stage that Rob can still pull off, why insist on ruining his voice further for the sake of ONE song?

Personally I'd be even more radical and utterly BAN the Painkiller album (for the same reasons as mentioned above) and have him bet on the pre '88 (Ram it Down for all you 100% fans with the albums on your hard drives taken from some crappy spanish blog)

I find the discussion regarding Rob's voice most interesting. Everyone here that really knows me is well aware that I am a huge fan and love Rob. He is a master at his craft. Having said this, I have to be very honest about something that I see mentioned more often than not; the "high" notes.

Rob Halford is THE Metal God. But Rob is NOT the Rob of twenty years ago, period. I have been to many shows, seen the DVDs and bootlegs and heard the outakes and I am telling you, he does not hit the same note on Painkiller that he did in '90 or '91. It may be loud. It may be piercing. It may be FAR better than me or nearly anyone on the planet will ever be able to do but it is NOT the same note he used on the album or managed to hit many years ago. It's just not.

I have read countless posts regarding the "great" shows many of us have seen recently and I see the constant assertions that Rob "hit every note" or was "just like he used to be".... Baloney. He cannot hit that note anymore. He cannot. Further, he has not for MANY years. I fear most of us are simply hearing him through the ears of the devoted fan.  And there is nothing wrong with that.

Priest gigs are still awesome. The songs are incredible and the guys are fantastic. I love them all and I believe I am as true a fan as there is on earth but there are things that Rob just cannot do in the same way anymore. Singing Painkiller is clearly one of them. He can sing the song, but it is NOT the same as the album. All the wishful thinking and  glowing commentary on earth cannot change nature. We age. We ALL age. And with that age comes the deterioration of some of our natural talents. Sports figures, singers, dancers...all things physical. That is part of life. In all honesty, Rob still knows his craft well and performs better than most in the field, including those younger than he. He is true genius. However, he is not what he was.
