That's a long hike Joe! Well to me anyways lol! Sounds like you had a good time doing it though!
I've been very good this morning, taken the doggy for a run. Caught a break in the weather so I thought I should take him out LOL! [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by joedraper from Monday, November 02, 2009 9:04:44 AM)

On Saturday we did a 22km mountain hike. I was under the impression that it was a 'mountain walk' Totally different thing all together. Turns out climbing a mountain whilst wearing trainers not good at all!
Never the less, the hike was fantastic although physically I was unprepaired for it. My feet hurt like hell by the time we were done but so worth it. The views were amazingly beautiful and I had such a sense of acomplishment once I crossed the finish line.
I sort of felt like Mark's creation toward the evening HRMG lol.

Ahhh...so your family still observes the holiday here? Weird thing is that once she immigrated to the US, my mom didn't celebrate it but observed Halloween instead (if at all). She would also tell me the same story of her brother eating the ofrendas over and over again.
Right on the money, Vail, save for the "most of Latin-American part." Rightly called "All SOULS day" by non-latinos, it corresponded to Catholic holidays. Nov 1 / Nov 2. All Saints Day followed by all Souls day (of course the Saints have to come first). Celebrated primarily in México and those who now live in the US.
When I was a kid, my grandmother (moved from MX to the states, would make a literal shrine in her living room....much as we do with the Red Wings!). Cookies shaped like little skulls were for the kids and tequila or pulque for the adults. ALWAYS a plate for the dead being remembered. In México, we'd do this right in the cemetary of Monterrey.
Originally, it was only the Mexicans or "chicanos" (those that came to the US...topic for another day) that celebrated it but now, like Halloween, it has caught on in many countries. Not exclusively latino / luso (Brazil has something similar) nor Catholic countries either. Really odd.
In Guanajuato (where I spent a lot of time as a child and adult), you CANNOT disassociate the festival (as it IS a celebration of the life of the person rather than a mourning) with the fantastic art of José Guadalupe Posada. Notice how happy they are....reflects the celebration. I have my little shrine all set up.

Yeah, trick-or-treating for Halloween is a big thing here in the States. It's mainly for the kids, but it's just as fun doing it as an (almost) adult...although you do get alot of raised eyebrows from the candy-givers.

Well it would appear that we all ( or most ) made it through the fiendish evening and lived to see another first of November. NOVEMBER!!!!!!!!! Good Lord! Where did this year go? Simply amazing how quickly the months pass us by. And I must admit, this year has been one to remember. What a GREAT tour by the Priest and all the meet-ups we managed to put together and all the memories we have made...again!
Perhaps sitting here this early in the morning beside the fire puts me in a bit of a pensive mood? I don't know for sure but I find that I recall this year with great fondness, for I have seen many wonderful things this year and spent time with some special people. I look back over the posts and I see that so many of us have shared time with one another. Time. Our most precious of assets and greatest of gifts. And there were some that shared that precious gift with me. I cannot thank them enough.
As yet another year winds to an end, I find that I am once again so very grateful for the wonderful people of this Board. You guys make some of the terrible days much better and the good ones great. Thanks to all of you for another great year and lets be sure to do it all again come January!!

That's not a proper costume! LOL!

Not many metalhead musicians these days pay attention to a lacking heavy metal "scene" as they are transfixed on the black metal scene or the death metal scene, ect. JD, I honestly think the lack of "quality musicians" available has a lot to do with what is "popular" now. I mean, let's be honest about this. It does not take a whole lot of talent to put on a pair of headphones and play a record or sing through a synthesizer while some pre-recorded music plays and some lame-ass dancers writhe around behind you, or rhyme "bitch" with "itch"! This is what passes for "musical talent" these days. Not a great impetus to actually learn to play an instrument when any clod can pick up a microphone and become a "star" simply by turning their baseball cap backwards and wearing a basketball jersey, or putting on a pair of spandex bikini bottoms and leather boots and wiggle their backside to someone else's recorded music. Worse yet, people actually spend their hard earned money on this garbage!!!?!?!?!?!?!!!!
I think you have the right idea in that you are doing this for yourself. That is a GREAT idea, my friend! Play the music YOU like and that YOU love and do it for all the right reasons. If you need me to be involved, consider it done!

Have a good and safe weekend everybody!!! If you're partying this weekend, enjoy, and don't do anything genuinely stupid (like hopping into the driver's seat of your car or someone else's when you KNOW FULL WELL you've had that '..one too many..'). As you make your rounds on Saturday, be wary and cautious of the wee ones as they make their door-to-door haunts for free candy... LOL! And by all means....as has been traditionally done now for the better part of some 40 years now....INSPECT YOUR CHILDREN'S LOOT BAGS UPON GETTING HOME!!! Who knows what sicko out there is doing to that stuff or WHAT they're handing out.....be scrutinous....after all, there HAVE been used needles (and worse) thrown into those bags and buckets in years' past....sick, I know..but, it happens.

I've already worked you into my ideas without even asking you Freeze!!! HAHA!! True! Hell yeah my friend,I've got some ideas that I think you will dig. That is very odd that you guys can't find a bass player,I've noticed up here that there aren't that many musicians avaible these days compared to the 80's or even the 90's. I've also noticed the last 10 years there are loads more thrash/death/black metal musicians that wanna play thrash/death/black metal than there are musicians that wanna play heavy metal.
I've been a fan of black metal since 1983 when I first heard Venom and a fan of death metal when I first heard Slayer back then as well and there has been some very "valid" bands that have emerged onto the scene since then....but the "scene" of black metal and death metal wasn't meant to be "this large" as it is today. Black metal used to be hidden and even when it got noticed more it still was able to keep it's elite sense of establishment but the last 10 years from 1999 to 2009...its lost it's over all purpose I think. The entire black metal scene was just not meant to have thousands of bands where as heavy metal could have tens of thousands of bands because of the genre's ideology. Thats why I want to do a heavy metal project instead of a death/black/thrash metal project, not too many people are into traditional british heavy metal these days compared to the other genres. Morning everyone! A lovely saturday here! I'm about to head off down to our capital city to spend the day/night with Craig, he is at the army camp there on course at the moment. I'll be back tomorrow, catch you all later!

Appreciate the suggestions Steve but I think I have been less than clear. You see, the recording band is a different band than the live band. Of This Earth is my recording band. We have all the personnel we need for that. The live gig is a different story. We have drums, guitars and keys handled but need a bass player so we can write a few more tunes and then hit the live circuit here in Vegas.
Of This Earth is great. We are writing some really cool stuff, although it is not really Metal. It is more straightforward rock with a bit of an edge. I will PM you a link to a couple songs. We have about four songs written but we have not put them out for access yet. We have a new person doing the production and mixing and it takes forever..or so it seems! Anyway, all is well. Your day sounds GREAT, man!! I LOVE a good burger! [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by prisoner from Friday, October 30, 2009 12:24:24 PM)

P.S. Freeze, a little tip for bass by the way: if you really are struggling to find a bassist, find a guitar player who can do the bass parts and run his guitar (neck pickup only) through an octave pedal and maybe some careful EQ. The result may well work beautifully, at least until you've got a real bassist. After all, the original Telecaster guitar was designed to play bass parts since the bass guitar hadn't even been invented...

Hey thats cool your studying music at your university kiamat, that must be very rewarding for you personally. I really don't know all that much about recording and such,I have watched somebody else mix and also record ect...but I have never done it on my own.And about my little project that I am working on,its just a project but I am not going to settle for something of less quality, this will be very good its just going to take a little time thats all. This time next year I plan on having everything I need. By then,my girlfriend's son will have all he needs for his drum set(which he is very good for being only 14!!)and he will be laying the drum tracks for me so it will be "fun" for myself.
Although it will be something that is valid for sale,I really am not going to send this out to anybody or anything like that I'm just "not into it" when it comes to trying to get signed or anything that deals with a business,I won't even let very many people hear it as its just going to be for my own amusement ya know? lol! But it will be a regular cd in hard case, album cover, booklet with lyrics, photos, the whole package...that will be funny! lol!
Arghhh- Halloween. Not that I usually have anything against it, but it seems like every club in Sheffield doing some special (and completely identical) party for it. If I get handed one more 'rave from the grave' leaflet or some such.. I swear I'll show em a real grave...
But its cool to hear about your album JD. The world always needs more good music, and someday I hope to be a bigger part of that music making too (I'm studying music at university, Sheffield is brilliant in that its one of the few universities that actually teaches studio production and live sound engineering as part of a plain music degree- the rest are far too snobby to teach anything in music tech that its actually possible to make a career out of!)

In my defence, there has been more going on in my life than I have time or room to state! In case anyone's wondering, a few of the highlights were: 1./Proposing to my girlfriend and getting the diamond ring on the finger (WHOO YEAH BABY!!!), 2./Finally moving in with both my fiancée and her wonderful daughter (who turns 5 in February... mymy, how the time goes), 3./Holding down a proper job for a full year, 4./ Playing a festival, and 5./ spending one tiring but surprisingly rewarding week looking after the two most important women in my life when they came down with Swine Flu... Won't bore you all with the life story, but just wanted to say, the Prisoner is back - hopefully for good! And it's great to see the board is still as vibrant and rockin' as it ever was. Goals now: Support my fiancée in her superb work on her Photography degree course; get a band together; keep my job; and reclaim my title as King of the Riddle Thread!!! See you all later, looking forward to the fond reminiscences! Prisoner out.

Wow thanks, I'd love that! I might put my recordings up somewhere and then just post a link on this site somewhere - after all, I always like feedback from people whose opinions I respect, and aside from the two wonderful people I'm living with, I'd say the ones who most fit that bill can be found right here on these Boards...
Speaking of which, I think I might do a little work on my drum track tonight. [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by J.D. DIAMOND from Wednesday, October 28, 2009 2:51:22 PM)

I'll make an entire cd...cover,booklet,lyrics,photos,a total product that will be easily marketable but I am not going to push it out there as I'm not up for the buisness part of this, just to much of a headache for me but it will be a professional done album, real drums..ect.... I will have total control as it is only going to be me playing guitar, lead guitar, bass and vocals and my girlfriend's son will be playing the drum tracks so this will be pretty cool. I won't post any tracks on the board, but when I'm done I will PM you a tune or 2!!

While you're saving up, you could try downloading Audacity for free, I use that program and it's fairly straightforward, if a little funny at times. I tend to use that myself - in fact, I've got a few days off work now so I'm planning on doing some recording myself over the next few days. I'll be using Audacity so if I can get something up, you could have a listen and see what you think...
And until you get the full metal drumming, I also use a freeware program called HotStepper for my drums which is SUPERB once you've played around with it for a while - you might wanna check that out too...
Looking forward to hearing some real trad HM from you, JD! Good for you in keeping the metal faith...

Her son Brooklyn is only 14 years old but the kid can play drums man!! Within a year from now he will be able to lay down some drum tracks for my songs no problem so I'll be creating my own project which will be a traditional heavy metal band since hardly nobody these days goes for old school heavy metal, they all want to play death, thrash, black metal so I will diviate from the horde of trends with a heavy metal project!!! But this is "for myself" and I will not be trying to get singed by a label and blah blah blah blah...I just want to have some fun and this is entirely for "me".

Hello Prisoner! I don't remember you, mostly cos I've only been here since February LOL! But hello anyways!
Morning to all! It's hump day here, yay over the hump on the way to the weekend woohoo!

Oh my God (never you mind which...)
It's been bloody ages - I've been missing so many of what I think of as the 'Old Crowd' on here...
Just want to present my apologies to you all before I go to bed for taking so damn long (months, possibly over a year, I'm losing track) to post again on this fine Board! In my defence, there has been more going on in my life than I have time or room to state! In case anyone's wondering, a few of the highlights were: 1./Proposing to my girlfriend and getting the diamond ring on the finger (WHOO YEAH BABY!!!), 2./Finally moving in with both my fiance and her wonderful daughter (who turns 5 in February... mymy, how the time goes), 3./Holding down a proper job for a full year, 4./ Playing a festival, and 5./ spending one tiring but surprisingly rewarding week looking after the two most important women in my life when they came down with Swine Flu...
Won't bore you all with the life story, but just wanted to say, the Prisoner is back - hopefully for good! And it's great to see the board is still as vibrant and rockin' as it ever was.
Goals now: Support my fiance in her superb work on her Photography degree course; get a band together; keep my job; and reclaim my title as King of the Riddle Thread!!!
See you all later, looking forward to the fond reminiscences!
Prisoner out.

Glad to be back, Guido!
Afraid I've gotta be off now - taking the little one out trick-or-treating early for various reasons...
See you all soon!

How have you been, man? I'm a little out of touch with current goings-on... And thanks for the welcome-back - very much appreciated.
I'm planning to do a little recording very soon - I would be very willing to share the results if you're interested? I haven't forgotten the CD exchange idea and am hoping to have something worthy of sending to you very soon!

Yeh, a 15 year old who's family has the reputation of turning out nothing but losers and potential jailbirds is not someone you want around your child.
He was susspeneded for 365 days, which means he would fail 7th grade again next year even if he decided to return, and since he'll be 16 my then I'm sure he'll be
looking at a stent in Juvy or adult jail by then. Shame really as had he not be brought up by the worst parents on earth who have children by many and care about
none of them, perhaps a decent parent could have made all the difference in the world. People like his parents should have their children stripped from them and
forced by the state to be sterilized.
On a lighter note. Welcome back Prisoner! Sounds like you have indeed had a busy year. [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by HOT ROCKIN' METAL GODDESS from Monday, October 26, 2009 5:15:43 PM)
