My pet`s name is Sonny!.....it`s a poodle...i used to dislike that kind of dogs, little and sometimes obnoxious, but my mother brought him home and now he`s my baby! hahaha...love him, pets are a therapy for stress....

Thank you Joe, and Hellrider! He was a beautiful dog and very loyal. Good boy! Yes Joe, I think children kind of miss out when they don't have a pet growing up. The pain of losing a pet may be great, but if fades and all you have left and the best memories, and laughes about the crazy antics they could get up to.  They give far much more than they ever take.

Spa, what a beautiful dog and what a beautiful tribute to him! You have been so blessed to have had such wonderful pets in your life (we all are). They too are extremely blessed to have had someone as doting, loving and devoted as you to be their caregiver. Those pics with Flora are so heartwarming! Beautiful! The bond between your children and pets is so pure and beautiful. We had a siamese cat called Fiona and when Zakk was born, she just claimed him. She'd attack the other cats if they dared even look at him. She went everywhere he did. Slept with him, let him tug her tail, followed him outdoors when he played. I even have a pic somewhere of him lying next to her and it looks like she's nursing him lol.
Tragically, she was chased in front of a car by a menacing stray tom cat and she died pretty much on impact. I was totally distraught and although Zakk was too young to figure out death, he spoke about her for a few years after. I told him she had gone to away to live somewhere else and he seemed to accept it at the time. Now he's older (4) and he understands what it means when people and pets die. He grieves and understands that it happens.

I had never even heard of the disease until the Dr. Diagnosed him with it. He was 12 when he was diagnosed and I just asked the Dr. would the medication available increase his quality of life and prolong it or decrease his quality of life and not really make much difference in his life span. The Dr. said at Max's age he felt it most appropriate to let the dog live out the rest of his days
unchanged, becuase the medication would not make him better and really wouldn't add that much time to his life.
Max did increadibly well up to the end, other than taking on an attitude toward food of giant porportions, he went from a trim atheletic 40 pounds to a gluttunous 55 pounds, he just loved to eat.
He suffered a stroke overnight at the end and his body just began to shut down the vet was closed till morning and I didn't have the astronomical emergency fee to take him in early, so he died at home with me with him.  He is buried at my mother's home, since I lived in an apartment at the time.
He had a good happy life, and that is all that really matters.
Like you I have never personally met anyone elso who's animal had Cushings I think it may be more common than we realize it's just people think it's just old age occuring and not act on it.

Cushings, My last dog was diagnosed with that too,,,  I had to order her special medicine from the UK, cost me almost 200.00 a month... she lived almost

2 1/2years after her diagnosis..  She developed a tumor on her liver that was cancerous, it was the size of a grapefruit..  the tumor grew fast due in part from the

Medicine she was taking for cushings.  she was half lab half husky...   Gawd I miss that dog.. She was such a sweetheart,.,,

I have never known anyone else who had a dog with cushings also...

I would go crazy if I didn't have a furball to come home and hug! They are perfect. They ask for very little and give so much. Who could want more?

My tribute to my best dog ever. Max. Officially, "Dawn's Blue Max" What a character he was! Was 10 when Flora was born and taken from me by Cushing's Disease at age 13. He lived a long full life, loved Flora emensely, used to sleep under her crib. Best dog ever.
