I have a hunch that you will. Italians always had a serious issue with arrogance, and they are definately a team that plays well against the big names, and loses to the underdogs. Best of luck. Last time we played Italy, we nearly beat them, they only won 4-3, in extra time I believe. Yep it's a great morale booster for you guys - like it was for us beating Serbia! We will try our best to upset Italy for you hehehe.Yeah Rooney is a good player but will foul heaps. | | _strat_ wrote: | | Yeah, it wasnt one sided at all. The first half specialy was great, tho the second one was an unbelievable drag. Novakovi is a great player when all is said and done, although it has to be said that the two goals he scored yesterday were lucky. He had two free kicks from great positions, and made the most of it, but counting on good free kick opportunities isnt going to get us far. Then again - we will be playing against Rooney Flintstone, and he will probably make more fouls than all the rest of the players combined. IDK, overall we are all pleased with the game. Score is great, and it is a nice morale booster for the cup.
Well... Best of luck to your guys. Please, PLEASE - beat Italy for us! They are our neighbours and we hate them dear.
Oh, and speaking of a massive achievement - when our team eliminated Russia from the qualifiers, to qualify for the WC... Our Prime minister went into the changing room and cleaned their football boots. Nuff said. | | Becks wrote: | | Cheers Strat what are your thoughts on that match? I thought, bar the scoreline, it was pretty evenly matched. A big difference was your strikers were much quicker than our big tall fellas lol. It didn't help when our goal keeper did that whoopsy which lead to the 3rd goal, but your second goal was a bit of a contentious one I feel. Novakovic took about 3 steps or so away from our defender before he fell over and got a penalty. NZ will have to watch out cos we play quite a physical game which some teams may take advantage of and the refs may not like. We'll see what happens! Most NZ fans are realistic, that coming away with a point or two at the WC would be a massive achievment (just being there for us is huge!) - football is not our national sport, unfortunately. Best of luck to in the WC Slovenia too!
South Africa v Mexico, I pick Mexico. But I will be cheering on the host nation to make it hard for them! | | _strat_ wrote: | | There! Counting down the days to the world cup, Ive decided that we need another thread for football, since the last one fell into oblivion of closed threads.

On a separate note: great game yesterday, friendly between Slovenia and New Zealand, which we won 3-1... Sorry Becks, I will still have my fingers crossed that you do good at the cup! |

Oh, believe me, I understand. Think I am going to be wearing anything buy a Brazil shirt while I am there? I'd be lynched in the streets were I to do so.
I remember the last time I was there and Brazil won. USA vs. Brazil, though, and I was at a private cricket club PACKED with fanatics. Of course, I made my Mexican heritage well-known that day just in case of a surprising upset. Actually glad the US lost that day!
