I do have to admit, Rob was not as good in Detroit as he was in Cleveland. He had a day off before the Cleveland show and I think that helped tremendously. Seriously, if you would have heard him sing Victim of Changes in Cleveland..... holy crap...... I'm not kidding, I held my breath and had tears in my eyes - it was crystal clear and pitch perfect..... I had goose bumps. I also think Rob hurt himself during the Detroit show. He was limping at the end and normally he would shake hands with the fans in the front row, but I don't think he could bend over. I didn't see what happened, but that also may have had something to do with it. But Rob was still amazing in Detroit. I LOVED the way everyone in the band was enjoying themselves, laughing, smiling and joking around. And the Detroit crowd was OUTSTANDING!! Even Whitesnake loved us!! The Cleveland crowd was not very loud in my opinion - Rob had to keep motioning for the crowd to be louder. He never had to do that in Detroit - we sang at every opportunity and that put a HUGE smile on their faces!
It was AWESOME meeting you and Guido too! We had a FANTASTIC time! | | Deep Freeze wrote: | | OK Ladies and Germs, I suppose now is as good a time as any to post my "review" of the Detroit show!
So, as you are all aware Guido and I met with HRMG and her husband for dinner prior to the show. WONDERFUL people! Very nice and tremendous fans. It was my honor to share some private time with them. We were at a small bar about two miles from the venue so we managed to get pictures and eating all done before scooting on over to the show.
I have to admit, I was stunned when the ushers directed guido and me to our seats!! FOURTH row in front of Glenn!! AMAZING!!! Anyway, we were not even seated fifteen minutes when David Coverdale walked onto the stage! I find it hard to believe he is in his sixties. Looked great and sounded INCREDIBLE! Has not really lost much of anything vocally, which is truly amazing in this business. He was entertaining and engaging and in great voice. I thoroughly enjoyed the performance.
Priest were, of course, awesome. I mean, they really brought the show! Nice timing and a set list that was much better for Rob than some I have heard in the past. Nice that they did British Steel, really. It fits his range so much better these days. Enjoyed the "extras" as well but, I simply do not agree that Rob "hit all the notes" as so many would have us believe. JUST my OPINION, of course but he does NOT sing at the level he did twenty- twenty five years ago. He just cannot hit those high notes like he used to..BUT, he can scream and it IS mind blowing. A truly magnificent performer. Overall, just a great GREAT show.
Still mulling over whether or not I will attend the Vegas gig. There are plenty of VERY good seats still available. I must say, Detroit really supports their Metal bands!! HUGE crowd there that night. Kind of disappointing that there are so many great seats here so close to the show date. I will decide shortly as to my attendance. ANYWAY, just a wonderful time in Detroit and I cannot begin to thank guido enough for his hospitality in his hometown!! Those of you that have yet to see Priest this time around are in for a memorable evening, I can assure you!!!!!!

I honestly believe you. In fact, I am sure there are several shows where Rob is better than others. The voice is an instrument just as a guitar but you cannot just go back stage and re-tune it every gig. Some nights are better than others and he IS older and more 'weathered" than he was!!! To do what he does at his age is truly amazing, I assure you.
I enjoyed the show immensely. The Band was great and the music rocked!! They have never disappointed. I do not believe they can!!! HAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know it's almost a week later...but I just wanted to drop in and tell all of you that Judas Priest promptly DESTROYED New Jersey last Saturday (11th)!!! The show was purely, simply, utterly, irrefutably OUTSTANDING...all five members were in top form, and some 10,000+ of us sounded more like 20,000; roaring our approval and praise at EVERY opportunity!!! Great stage and effects (paled only by some of their larger presentations back in the early-mid '80s), which suited the show and the songs perfectly. It was awesome also, to hang out for a few hours prior to the show with many members of the HALFORD QUORUM...many of whom I'd met before, as well as seeing/meeting some new faces that I'd only corresponded with on the Quorum's messageboard. Some of these people are just DIE-HARDS, man....one guy (Dylan, who is 'BS2K' on the Q) came from Utah to see that night's show as WELL as the following night's show at Jones Beach. Bill ('Helloween') and his wife Deb came up from FLORIDA to their old stomping grounds of NJ to see the show, others came from Virginia and Maine!!! I mean....talk about LOYALTY!! It was great seeing all of them, and sharing food (that we all brought w/ us) along with the grill one Quorumite was good enough to bring enabled us to eat quite heartily! Peggy (my wife) and I snuck away when it was getting to be that time when Whitesnake would be taking the stage....just as we made it to our seats, they were one-third of the way into "Bad Boys," and Coverdale and co. sounded really, really good. It was Peggy's first time witnessing Whitesnake and I knew she really wanted to see 'em...esp. Coverdale...LOL....
Storm forecasts were threatening the whole day, but it didn't really start in earnest until just after the show was over....when we walked out from the protective roofing of the seated area (PNC is partly outdoors...esp. with a lawn area that can house some 10,000 all by itself), that's when we felt the rain and it got heavier as we made our way toward the parking lot. Lightning and thunder...the whole bit....a fitting end to the maelstrom of metal we'd witnessed!!! I looked over at my wife and said, "Storm warning, but there's no fear..." She just smiled big...she must've sensed I was making a Priest reference. We caught up with a few of the people we were hanging out with earlier that afternoon to say good-bye and other well-wishing departures and made our perilous way back to the motel room we scored upon arriving in NJ. A great day/night and a KILLER show!!! Priest can STILL deliver!!!! BELIEVE IT! |
