That woud have been quite a while ago, but our dollar at one point was worth 60 cents US.  so, you would need a shitload of change to turn a profit if someone took it at par.  smaller places that used to happen and was a big draw.  now our dollar is almost worth the same as yours so the benefit of crossing the boarder is only seeing more bands I guess.  oh and weaker beer.

Man, I wish you guys could refrain from the "snow" talk.(insert smiley).

I like it I'm just not ready for it.

[Budred] Wednesday, November 06, 2013 7:15:40 PM

Overall the experience was pretty cool. I met a couple of Canadians who said they came over from Ontario across the bridge to Canada. They were telling me that they have been going to Harpos for at least 25 years. They said everyone has played there and named quite a few that they went to. Tesla, Run DMC, Kid Rock, Lamb Of God, Wasp, and others. They mentioned things about the club, like it used to have a lit dance floor and giant monitors. I forget other things they told me. They told me they used to come over to America to drink all the time. I don't know if they were telling me the truth or not but they said something about coming over with Canadian money, buying drinks and getting change with American money, and exchanging that when they got back to Canadian currency again and making money out of it. They laughed about coming here to drink and getting money back. Can anyone explain this or let me know it's not possible. I'm skeptical but I don't know. I probably wouldn't go back. Any big shows with no parking would freak me out up there. I've been in the City at night, Miami, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and a few others but this had a different vibe to it. Then I read today about Detroit getting a white mayor for the first time in decades and one of his first issues is dealing with how dangerous and violent Detroit is. I got in, I got out, I'm good! (lol)

HAAAAA!!!! You KNOW Harpos! I know the exact market you did your "Detroit turn" on and glad you found the parking lot. Look at my 'vacation pics' and you'll see that I spun around in the same lot.
As I said before, I park on the street but RUN! Never had a problem (knock on wood).

Mecca of metal, mon ami. Glad you survived! Of course, I'd be glad to see any photos you want to share.

[Budred] Tuesday, November 05, 2013 3:12:50 PM

a couple of corrections. I said on ramp and meant overpasses and I said to the right of the stage and it was to the left.

[Budred] Tuesday, November 05, 2013 1:51:00 PM

@Guido. I finally made it to Harpos. Seedy neighborhood? OMG. I got a little nervous when about a mile from the exit I started to notice graffitti all over the on ramps. Nothing new but then about 1/2 mile to go and now I'm seeing the poles covered and graffitti on the highway signs and I was like "great", freakin' gangs, or at least "the hood". Took the exit and when I got on the street leading to Harpos all I saw were "brothers". I am not a racist but I do care about my well being so I wasn't liking that. Then driving by Harpos I didn't notice parking and drove to a supermarket a couple of buildings away. Looked at the clientel and thought my car will be gone by time I get back out here. I drove back towards the club and turned in next to it and saw parking in the rear. So glad the crowd was small so I didn't have an issue parking. I may have just left if I would have had to park anywhere else. I was amazed at how big the inside is once you get inside. That floor though (in my mind) sucks. Raise your hands all the way above your head and your wrists hit the stage. I got a spot at the rail above the floor to the right side. Perfect view and I got some great videos. I may post one for you just because of where it is from. I have a cool pic from outside I'll post when I get it to my computer. That was my 19th MRH show and sixth this year. I may get one more chance this year, depends on the weather. Their Xmas show is next month. I may skip it though. 6 times in one year is good I guess.(lol) Take care.

[guidogodoy] Tuesday, November 05, 2013 12:15:46 PM
Well, I sure have been busy! Fall is here and is the busy time for the chimney sweep. Hell, I've had three of my "climbing boys" stuck in as many flues this month alone!

Hell of a time getting them out of there. If only those six-year-olds would pay closer attention to their training.

Wouldn't it just encourage the male stray cats to just spray piss on the gallon jugs? I really don't see how anyone thinks this works.

Ahhhhh! This used to be done here (I don't see it anymore) but people to stop dogs pooping on their curbside lawns, lol! I don't think it works. And cats don't give a shit (no pun intended) anyways haha.

It's the "war" is against the rising stray cat population here and the ever-increasing amount of cat poop in the garden. The locals' solution? Place milk gallons filled with water in strategic areas. It's supposed to deter the felines from pooping anywhere near said areas.

I've seen these gallons in flower beds. I've never seen so many placed at the edge of the lawn. Just HAD to take a pic.

Does it work? Eh, not really. Those gallons were there since earlier this week and I can still smell some cat poop from their direction.

When I clicked Guido's link it took me right to it. When I copied and pasted the other one it took me to a page that gave me websites to choose from. I didn't know what I was looking for. I got bored pretty quick listening to the same thing over and over but you can't deny the guy his skill. I've never seen or heard anyone play that fast. There were a few seconds where I was wondering if it was faked he was playing so fast. Thanks for sharing.

Huh, interesting effect. While you were right in that it is not my particular cup of tea, the crowd seemed really into it (and, yes, the bandmembers almost seemed to trip over one another!). Those water drums must be strong as one guy had a foot on one and the bass player had his instrument IN the water. Perhaps no water left but still didn't seem right to be putting an electric guitar in water.

Hey, he lived. Cool effect, as I said. Especially from the angle you captured.

@Guido ...for me it's pretty much just effect. They only use them part of the time. Here's a video I took from Pittsburgh Thursday night. It's from the balcony and the stage is so small it's a good shot of both drums. I'm not expecting you to like the song just watch the first 2 or 3 minutes. If you do watch the whole song the second part of it is the best.(to me). The song is "43/Kill Tomorrow". This is one of my (more)favorite songs from these guys. (my last video of these two shows)

I agree. That kid looked like he was having a blast!

Does the water drum have any special effect in terms of percussion other than looking cool (and probably dampening the sound?).

I was sitting in the Walmart parking lot a while back listening to the radio with the windows down because the weather was nice. They played a song by Mushroomhead so I cranked it up pretty loud and it sounded good. Got a few strange looks though. Ha! Can't remember the name of the song.
[Budred] Monday, October 28, 2013 11:58:24 AM

This will be the last one unless someone requests one. (yeah' I know ...so this will be the last one right?)(lol) I'm only putting this up in case someone would like to see them without their gear on. "Mushroomhead Unmasked". I got this from the soundcheck.

Hey guys. I went to see MRH Saturday night in Cleveland. I'm sure not too many care about that so don't worry there are no reviews. I'm posting a video though and I'm hoping some here will take the time to watch the first two minutes. The song is "Empty Spaces(pink floyd)/Born Of Desire". The first two minutes (Empty Spaces) features a 7 or 8(?) yr. old kid playing one of the water drums. The kid is so cool and watch him work the crowd. I think this is good stuff. Hope some agree.

So...

Halloween is coming up, a holiday my mom seldom celebrates. A few months ago she decided to sell dental insurance on the side. Today, she comes up with the idea of handing out flyers for dental insurance to trick-or-treaters on Halloween night. In addition to the candy.

Not sure whether to laugh or cry.

...

Is it possible for one to do both at the same time?

I can vaguely remember the same thing happening in South Dakota (granted, I was 13 or 14 at the time [almost 10 years ago] hahaha) but once you got in the caves, your senses changed and it was almost a bizarro world, of sorts...

Frank Lloyd Wright played a lot with that idea. There is a fountain on the campus of Wayne State (Detroit) where the water seemingly runs uphill. MARVEL of engineering. While I know that he and Yamasaki both designed buildings on that campus, I don't think he did the fountain. Still. Amazing little sucker. Must have a cave underneath.
