I am making an assessment based on what i like.
JD the Eq in you signal chain is adding that desired extra crunchness.
THe BBE will do the same thing. IMO The BBE will Make your sound Sizzle. Kind of a pro mod additive.
Gives you a modernized crunch.  [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by J.D. DIAMOND from Thursday, November 05, 2009 5:33:11 PM) Edited at: Friday, November 06, 2009 1:43:05 PM

JD
That is the question of the ages!!
Here is a simple rule for what pedal in what order... process your distortion, don`t distort your processing.
The HM-2 should be first the your EQ .
EQ`s are notorious for being noisy whitenoise (hiss), if you put it in front of the HM-2 then your are distorting your noise!!
If you were to have a setup like I once had, .... this is the order you could consider
Compresser, distortion, wah pedal,eq,phaser or flanger, delay, chorus, noise gate BBE or any other type of signal enhancer.
Now that is not something that is set in stone, experiment and see what  you like. That was the order of what I had when I was gigging. The wah pedal would find itself after the eq from time to time, not sure why I would change it, just did.
Also, use a regulated power supply, not the batteries. As the battery dies, then even in the off position, the pedal will affect your signal by not allowing it to pass thru properly.
Now, with that said, there are some pedals that offer a true bypass feature when off and then the bad battery shouldn`t mess with your signal.
KK and Glenn both once said that they had pedals in their boards (interview was from the 80`s) that they never used anymore, but didn`t remove them because it may affect their tone .

All of that shit is so confusing haha.

So many different combinations of EVERYTHING. Ever little detail fucks with your tone, its insane.

[SDBinNY] Thursday, November 05, 2009 7:20:12 PM
Guitar~HM2~BBE~Amp.

If you are happy with your tone, put the eq in the effects loop and set it flat with a slightly higher output level for the boost. If you are using it to shape your tone, play with the set up and see where it fits best. Most likely the BBE will be at the end of the chain.

Hey guitardude,so should I have first my boss Heavy Metal2 pedal, then a BBE and take out the GE-7 or use all 3? Id also like to get a cry baby too so would I use all 4? What should I do here,I like hearing ideas...

[guitardude] Thursday, November 05, 2009 5:33:28 PM
Sadly, I don`t have either of my Marshalls anymore, priorities changed so they had to go. I have been in the market for something smaller for a long time now, all tubes preferably, but without breaking the bank.
K2M is right on the BBE, I had one and they make such a difference, really livens things up. I also had the GE-7 that I used to mainly boost my top end for solos.
The HM-2 you have is good, you don`t have to run it WFO, they can be used as an Overdrive . with good results.
At one point I had nearly an all Boss setup consisting of a
Compressor, EQ, Digital Delay, Chorus. I also had a Dunlop Dimebag model Crybaby, Rocktron Silver Dragon Distortion and a Hush  pedal.
I still have the Silver Dragon, and I also have a Boss DS-1 that was given to me by a member of the board here. Occasionally I plug into my son`s little Fender amp and use the DS-1. Otherwise I use my newly attained Behringer V-amp 2 with headphones. I can plug in the Mp3 and wail away.

What kind of pedals tdo you use with your Marshall guitardude? I have a MG 100 HDFX half stack that my roomate got for me last June and I have an old 1984 boss Heavy Metal 2 pedal and a boss equalizer GE-7 pedal that I use, this gives me an extra metalic crunch thats clear ect... what would you recomend me getting or using?

Back when I was doing gigs, I would set the volume on my Marshall (JCM 800 2205 model)at 4 and that was plenty. Occasionally, when we played a larger venue , I would do 4.5 , but that was mainly for my own sound and being able to hear myself adequately.
The JCM 900 that I had briefly a couple of years ago, was about the same as it was a 50 watter also. That one only saw action at a friends shop building where we (old band mates from several bands would get together and play) and never needed to be cranked up much.

You say bleeding as if it is a bad thing. Keeps the bone marrow busy and healthy....lol

Actually, have never been in a situation where "10" was neccessary, but blowin the dust off the china isn't a bad thing once in a while....

There is a point while playing  that you can get your speakers to resonate and really breathe, that`s when your in the sweet spot and nothing sounds or feels quite like it!!!

Eminence makes a good speaker and seems to be gaining in popularity, MR. Scary uses them!!! I belive that Dimebag was using them also in the Kranks, but I`m not sure.
I replaced the Celestions in my old Marshall cabs around 1993 or 4 and used the Carvin British series speakers, there was hardly any difference between them and the Celestions.
Get out there and listen to a variety, you never know what you may like.
SDB... Jensens...yea man!!

[SDBinNY] Tuesday, November 03, 2009 3:37:12 PM
Personally, I have always prefered Jensens. I "grew up" with old Fenders ( 1956 Fender Bandmaster,  1966 Fender Dual Showman, 1968 Fender 2x12 thing I can never remember the name of). I ran a Boss DF2 into the Showman with a 2x15 cab and LOVED the tone I got. The 15's were old Jensens, and my father actually made the cab.

Currently I have a Behringer head and cab, and a Crate cab. Haven't got to use them much lately, so I am certain they are feeling a little neglected..

I think people just get too caught up in labels, and it is my belief that you should get out there and find what your ears like.

I am using 2 Marshall 4x12's. I am using the smaller Cheaper cabs. they are loaded with celestions.
I have always used celestions i am thinking about trying something new. I have always been pleased with the celestions.
i picked up the Marshall cabs for 300 a piece. Affordable . one can change  the speakers
SBD my ears could be scared from a lifetime of celestions do you have any suggestions.
I am checking out the line 6 cabs. just checking. I have three 4x12's I love them.

Precisely. Hellrider. we're gonna load it with our brand.

I like Line 6.
I have been using the UX2 interface. i recommend it. FeedBack from the Comp speakers. Very sweet.
I just picked up a Spider VI , 150Watt head. i wanted a head to go with that i would not have to freak out on. as far as maintaining and destroying.
I want the Bogner. I want that Power tube section in my line six Head.
I have not opened the Spider yet.

I do know that some of the Line6amps have pedalboards(as in controllers)  you can hook up to them and control your efx and your channel. I`m not sure as to which ones , other than the top of the line models Like the Vetta, now that is a kick ass amp!!!
Pedals should be fine thru the amp, if you have an efx loop, put them there, if not, run them in front of the amp.   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Bazooka Joe from Saturday, October 31, 2009 9:01:03 PM)

One thing I don't like about Line 6 amps is all the effects. There IN the amp, therefore you gotta press the buttons. How would a effects pedal work on a Line 6 amp?

The Bogner series of Line6 amps come with Celestion speakers, which are the most sought after speakers for guitar.
I think for around that 1500 for a half stack is a fair price for entrance into the world of tube tone.
Also check out Bugera, they are owned by Behringer and make clone amps of marshalls and Peavey`s , but they sound very good. I don`t know how their longevity will be, but might worth a look into as well when you`re ready to step up into a bigger amp.
