Yes, both my sons started to play the recorder in school in 4th grade. Everyone has to learn to play it in our school district. Kind of a prep for band to introduce them to playing music and hopefully joining band.

Oh good! Shall I find and play it on my recorder for you? Honestly, I was always better at the Austrian Hymn. Not as many notes to learn! LOL!

I know the recorder, my sister learnt to play it when she was little, a lot of kids learn it Waltzing Matilda, ARGH, that's all I have to say about that song lol. We hear that song a lot, especially when it comes to NZ vz Oz sporting matches.

Here ya go! Recorder practice at its best!

[guidogodoy] Tuesday, May 28, 2013 12:03:24 AM
Amazing story about your sister. Very Kewl indeed. Would have been touching to have been there at the same time as the landing. Heck, you saw my posts about a small graveyard in Hawai'i, I could only imagine.

About Gallipoli, I have NO idea if they still do it but here we all had to learn to play the "recorder" (basic flute if you don't know it). Common song was "Waltzing Mathilda" and, oddly enough, the "Austrian Hymn." Never knew much about what we were playing until the later grades and we learned the history but I cannot get either songs out of my head if I tried. Both easy, yet haunting tunes.

I think I still have my recorder at my mother's house. Hell, why would she give away my six/seven-hole piece of plastic? LOL! "Nobody waiting for me to grieve or pity...." one of the lines (or close to it).

Wonder if the "kids" today still have to learn the recorder? Be curious to know in an age where gym classes are going the way of the dodo.

That's interesting that you guys learnt about Gallipoli too! My sister was extremely lucky this year - she was at ANZAC cove for the dawn service, as a part of the New Zealand Defence Force contingent (she's a civilian working for NZDF). To be there, at the exact time those men landed on the peninsula, would have been spine tingling.

Fine info about your "Memorial Day," Becks. Always curious.
About Gallipoli? People my age learned it in Elementary School+ In EVERY textbook and, yes, it did include NZ and their massive losses.

While I take the day to remember those who gave their lives for my freedom, I also give thanks to those who currently (or will) serve their nations. IMO, they deserve more than a day.

Happy Memorial Day to all my American friends.  Sending my respects to all serving personnel around the world!!!
As a point of interest, our equivalent of memorial day is ANZAC day (Australia New Zealand Army Corps) on the 25th of April - we commemorate all NZers lost in war and those who came home, April 25th marks the day ANZAC forces landed at Gallipoli in 1915. Gallipoli was a huge disaster, it's worth learning about, as sad as it is.

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!!!

On a more personal note, i really took pause to stop and honor those from Maui who had fallen. Stumbled across a small graveyard en-route to someplace. All soldiers' graves were marked with flags / rank. While there were many soldiers, the first below that reads "PVT - Aug 24, 1941" and the second that marked the remains of a survivor of WWI caught my eye.

They deserve to be honored.

As for Black Sabbath. I'm looking forward to buying their new album. Even though "God is Dead" isn't that great, there is that potential of the rest of it being really good. But then again, it could also be pretty bad. I'm hoping that it's listenable, at least. *crosses fingers*

Oh, yeah! And nice that you and your wife got an apology from Gemini Syndrome and will get some extra stuff.

...not my conversation but I had to chime in.
That freakin' church protested some soldiers services around here and I've been wishing bad things on them ever since.
Them showing up at "Jeff's" service would have been perfect, I guarantee bad things would have happened. Your comment
about the little girl sickens me. WTF is wrong with this freakin' lunatic pastor? Someone please burn that church down!!!

...another reason I chimed in was your comment about the new Sabbath song.
I told my wife two days ago the same thing you said. The beginning of the song ...OK...towards the middle and end I like it.
I would probably pass on their show also. Mentioned that to the wife during the same conversation. Ozzy doesn't sound overly great
on the song and that's as doctored as they can get it. I can't imagine he'll be very good live.

I will admit the last two times I saw Ozzy he sounded better than he has since the 90's but that was nearly 3 years ago and add the
story about his relapse and I wouldn't take the chance. I saw them on "Heaven and Hell" tour in 1980 and their re-union shows in the late
90's and the "Heaven And Hell(band)" tour you mentioned and a few times in between so there is no desire.

Hey, Justin Kenny!

It did surprise me that the Westboro Baptist Church didn't show up. They probably knew better than to try to rile up already emotional Slayer fans. The cult would all be impaled and without a single survivor left to try to sue the attackers for "damages". I heard that they were going to Moore, OK to protest the memorial service being held for a child killed in that F5 tornado. Looks like they didn't even show up there, either.

As for Black Sabbath. The only new song I heard was "God is Dead?". The first three minutes were "meh", but the rest sounded good. I'll probably buy the album, but won't see them live. I prefer to keep my experience of seeing Heaven and Hell live in 2008 intact. Stupid idea? Probably.

Not much else to impart really...just wanted to say an overdue  "Hi ya!!!"   and share (as well) things I'd been noticing, reading up on, and thinking about.    Good to see a lot of other Priest board vets are still at it here, and I wish you all well and hope your lives have been trucking along smoothly!
[Justin Kenny] Saturday, May 25, 2013 9:32:14 AM
Hey all!!    S'been quite the 'dog's age' since I've made any sorts of posts around here...apart from time spent working, most of my free time is spent on facebook keeping in touch with family and various friends (made online and otherwise) that way.

Three years gone by...and we've lost Ronnie James Dio, Jeff Hanneman, and recently--Ray Manzarek.    Our heros are dropping with seemingly great regularity...   ...I will say this much, however;  I'm very glad the Westboro Baptist Chur....um...I mean CULT, neglected to show to protest Hanneman's Memorial service as they'd initially vowed....it could've gotten very ugly (in spite of Slayer's urgings to merely ignore the lot of them and spend time instead queuing up to get inside and celebrate Jeff's life and music).   I caught some pictorial and other visual accounts of Hanneman's service...I'd say they did a wonderful job celebrating his legendary career in heavy metal and honoring the very person he was.

It's also been unusual to see our beloved Rob Halford resorting to a wheelchair in recent weeks given his issues with his back, eh?!    Thankfully, it doesn't sound like a terribly involved problem, and he's confident once the surgical procedure he needs is completed, he'll be just fine...so...good news there!

I know a lot of people are still up in arms about Bill Ward's absence in Black Sabbath.   Admittedly, I too had hoped whatever needed working out or ironing out would've been done in time for his inclusion on their forthcoming album "13,"  but...as a quip I'd read from Tony Iommi stated, the issue of getting on with things reached rather critical levels--especially once he'd realized what he'd been diagnosed with.    Having seen for himself how quickly things deteriorated with Dio, even for as positively Tony's responded to his own spate of treatments;  I can't really say I blame him for pressing Bill to shit or get off the pot...if they'd waited, who really knows if we'd be celebrating any opportunity whatsoever to hear the original masters of metal make ANYTHING new ever again?    I feel for Bill, and I've read a lot of what he's had to say about the whole affair, but these gentlemen too, are not getting any younger and time seems to be getting shorter and shorter with each passing hour!!    In the grand scheme of things, I can only hope  "13"  will NOT be Tony's  'swan song'  as  "The Devil You Know"  was for Dio (all that's been released since notwithstanding).     I've heard  "God Is Dead"  and  "End of the Beginning"  from it so far, and I must say I'm very pleased with what I've heard so far!!

There's also a lot to be said regarding the whole "...two Queensryches"  issue (you'll all forgive me for possibly recanting things you all may have commiserated about thousands of times over in recent months...like I said, it's been a while for me!!).    I'll just say this much about all of that....I've listened to about 7 or 8 tracks from Geoff Tate's 'version'  (from "Frequency Unknown")....and...in all honesty, even for all the talent he's got with him this time around...I'm every bit as nonplussed about it as I was with Queensryche's previous album  "Dedicated To Chaos,"  which in my humble opinion--was dreadful...and as a fan, it irks me to say that.     Conversely, I've only heard one track so far from the OTHER camp (now featuring Todd LaTorre...a great singer) called  "Redemption,"  and it's got me VERY eager to hear what the rest sounds like!    Sure, it could be argued that LaTorre sounds a bit  'too much'  like what Tate sounded like from the days  of  "The Warning"  or  "Rage For Order,"  but it's abundantly clear that THIS is the sound much of the remaining long-time members of 'Ryche were looking for and wanting to do for a very long time.   Seems Tate had himself too tight a pull on the reins on what was becoming a very worn 'horse,'  and it was down to either feed it carrots and let it get lazier and fatter, or give it a royal smack in the ass and get that sumbitch back to running speed!    The fans have (largely) responded...the eagerness to see 'Ryche tear it up with LaTorre seems far greater in scope.
[guidogodoy] Friday, May 24, 2013 10:24:04 PM
I am with HB in that those minor "sand in the banana hammocks" that are bombing the board today don't hold a candle to those of the past. They would REALLY have to step up their game to get to the reason as to why the "respect points" policy was put in place at all. Alas, what of the often intelligent debates of the "politics" thread of yesteryear? While I chose not to post there, the conversations were certainly at a different level. People could state their views in a literate manner and actually defend them. The Guitar thread. Always a helpful one. Even Kmac1 (before we had to move it to Kmac2 thanks to shitdisturbers) was fun and inviting. The DF/MM/MP thread? Produced TWO albums because of friendships that started here amongst the fans.

Now you almost have to time it as to when Vienna is asleep. I would have LOVED for some of these conversations to have (tried, at least) taken place on Rob's real site => the Q. Attila, et. al. would have pimp-slapped all this nonsense back into the stone-age. Así es la vida.

ps. for those that argue that this is Rob's site? Just look at Wiki. No, it is the BAND'S site! Paragraph 2 for those with short attention-spans.  en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halford_%28band%29

I'll make this my last post on Rock On The Range and don't worry I won't include videos.
There was a lesser known band there called Gemini Syndrome. I had heard of them a couple of months prior
because they were opening for a band that I like. I couldn't attend but I was checking them out on youtube and
thought "they" may be the kind of band I like.
At R.O.T.R. my wife and i managed to get about four rows of people from the stage. I was watching them and thinking they weren't
too bad. During the second song I looked at my wife and she was holding her head and had tears in her eyes. I was like "WTF happened"
and she showed me her hand with blood all over it. I took her to first aid and on the way she said the drummer hit her in the head with a stick.
We got her cleaned up and sanitized and we missed the rest of the band's set. Luckily the cut was minor but she got a nice little knot to go with it.
When I got home I left a message on Gemini Syndrome's facebook page telling them what I just told you guys. Yesterday when I went
on facebook I had a message from them. They sent "our sincerest apologies" and said they were going to send me a package. They ask for my
address and my wife and my shirt sizes. They also told me that if I attend another show to message them and they will put us on their guest list.
They are a lesser known band without much of a following but I thought that was pretty cool of them to offer anything at all.
They made a fan of me just by their actions!

[Budred] Thursday, May 23, 2013 3:45:41 AM
Someone here (probably Jimmy J) posted this band here awhile back.
I thought they were cool, not sure if anyone else does or not but they seem to be the  type of band some here would like.
I wanna say "stoner rock"but I never cared for that term. Kind of "grungy" metal, they remind me of bands like "Red Fang".
They put on a good set, really tight and sound quality was good. I wish I would have gotten them doing "Hush" by ZZ Top.
Anyway, check this out. I'm pretty sure some of you may like this.

Went to "Rock On The Range" this weekend. Around here there is nothing like this festival.
The amount of people over the weekend and the energy level is like nothing I've ever experienced.
I'll post a couple of videos that I like and I'll post a few to highlight the crowd. Even if some of you don't
care for this type of music check out a couple of the videos I post just to see the crazy ass crowd.

@Accolyte...i have a video of "All That Remains" that I made sure to get just for you. I made a mistake though.
We were on the field and the crowd was so crazy I figured I would go up top to get a good crowd shot. That worked
out but I compromised the sound quality. Definitely a top 5 performance of the weekend. I'm going to be paying
more attention to these guys.

@ JD...I wanted to get a "Ghost video for you but I was too close to a group of security. I didnt realize til later they didn't seem to care.
My wife took one of mostly monitor shots with a digital camera. Not great quality but when I get it to youtube i'll post it for you. I have to
say that I've never seen a band like that before. Not bad at times but more symphonic than I really care for. I watched them because of you
and I don't regret it but they are different. One of those so called "devil" bands that come off as "really" being "one of those devil bands'.

This video was one of my highlights. Stone Sour doing "Children Of The Grave". They rocked it. I have a few stories. I'll try to share a few later.
Enjoy!

Very interesting, I believed on a new hard album, but for me are the changes in their music styles very good! I wrote, if every album like the other albums, it would be boring, but they experimented much, this is what I love on Judas Priest. But, I still love the album Nostradamus and I believe on the implementing on stage one day,  the style of this album isn´t death, the album after the hard new album, will be in another style again! The band composes what the fans want to hear, they give feedback, there are also many Nostradamus fans! I love everything about Priest, so I can buy it, without to hear it, the new album will be a surprise for everyone who loves Priest!

Anyway, I think after the production of the new album, all the Judas Priest fans will be satisfied and happy again!
