Wow,so you basically heard it when it came out...thats awsome! British Steel is like the greatest hits of JP..except obviously it is its own album...amazing record. Most people pick Painkiller and I'm not saying that Painkiller is not close...it is close neck and neck........I somehow pull towards British Steel.

The first time I heard it I did not know it was out yet and the boy who took me home from work was playing it. I was listening to "the Rage" and was like, this sounds like priest. Found out it had come out a few days before. Next day I had my dad take me to the mall so I could get it. I was 15 at the time.

Yes spapad,I was 10 years old when this album was released, but it was'nt untill I was 12 years old that I got into this album...about the same time Screaming For Vengeance was released 1982. The first thing/song that got me into Judas Priest was "Heading Out To The Highway" video!

I think the release of British Steal defined what metal was all about.

Hey there Hellion, like I said, 1980 brought us a lot of great Metal.  Granted, I was only 15 in 1980 and I am jaded towards Priest, but you are correct in your assessment of Manowars' '80 release, but that WAS in '80.  I'm saying PRIOR to '80 my friend.

ha, i love that album. death tone, dark avenger, battle hymn, metal daze. great songs on that album. too bad they got chris columbus as a drummer now. he is a little repetitive.

Hey ronhartsell! You had better listen to Dark Avenger - Manowar from Battle Hymns before you make that judgement dude! That came out in 1980 and all I can say is listen and learn dude! Welcome to reality!

I imagine you are referring to my post...the song Steeler is what I was referring to as in nothing sounded quite like it in 1980, it is a pretty heavy song, and there really weren't a lot of fast/heavy songs out there, even from the Scorpions...although 1980 was a year that a lot of great Metal was released...

i have to disagree with the the dude who says there was not much rock in 1980.  True statement if you listened to the radio.  If your a real rocker with records in a closet. scorpions where kicking ass with amimal magnetism, although scorpions which been around since 72 never got air play till the blackout album. 82.  so there where other bands in the same boat. that are getting more air play now then when the material been released.
