I was thinking the same thing! Or perhaps they saw a picture of your demolished mailbox and thought they should reinforce the packaging? Were there crumbs on the tray? 
I'd say that the razor blade is a little bit thicker than the guitar pick necklace you have. Really nice!!! I'm very happy with how they both look!
