Saxon returns with 2015's "Battering Ram".... (Yes they were influenced by Rapid Fire when choosing thus title and yes they LOVE Priest...)

Excellent LP....only one song I didn't care for #5 Hard and Fast but the rest is typical Saxon these past 20 years.... The title Track is awesome and Kingdom of the Cross(about WW1) is awesome.

A solid effort from Saxon...again Saxon delivers.

It's been a good few years since I've been to a Saxon gig. I didn't even know they had a new album. I'm afraid I'm rather out of touch these days. I will, however, try and find time to listen to it soon.

Hope all my old friends from some years ago on here are keeping well. Sincerest best wishes to you, JD.

Headbanger....of course I meant the LP! Don't care what others heard on this tour...what I heard at Studio 7 was Biffs vocals supurb as Unleashed in the east....
Don't make rocket science out of it right?
[Brian_Evans] Friday, November 15, 2013 3:35:35 PM
That's a good point. Is there a bootleg or something of the original recording? I'd like to hear it.
I think Biff fanboy needs to clean is ears out or go back and listen to unleashed again.
[Head banger] Friday, November 15, 2013 7:45:48 AM
do you mean as good as what is on the CD, or as good as the original vocals at that concert?  90% of the vocals were redone because rob was sick during those shows

We just saw Saxon in Flint, MI last night. HOLY SHIT, WHAT A SHOW!!!!! JD, you are in for a hell of a night!! They sounded absolutely incredible. Singing Denim and Leather with the entire crowd had to be the highlight for me - very very cool! But then, just to put the cherry on top, Paul jumps down from the stage and plays his solo to Princess Of The Night right in front of me, not more than 2 feet away!! HOLY SHIT, he is absolutely incredible! Here are some pics from the show, the first one is Paul playing in front of me. My hubby had to take the pic because he was too close for me to take one

SAXON Completes Recording New Album - Aug. 28, 2012
British heavy metal legends SAXON have completed recording their new album for a tentative February 2013 release. The follow-up to 2011's "Call To Arms" is scheduled to be mixed by British producer Andy Sneap, who has previously worked with MEGADETH, ACCEPT, NEVERMORE, EXODUS and ARCH ENEMY, among many others.

A new video podcast from the studio can be seen below.

SAXON in April released "Saxon - Heavy Metal Thunder - Live - Eagles Over Wacken", the no-fat-no-bullshit-100%-pure CD/DVD featuring DVD highlights from the band's Wacken shows in 2004, 2007 and 2009 comprising thirty songs, plus a live CD from Glasgow in 2011. Each set captures the Barnsley-bred British heavy metal legends delivering classic after classic, from "Denim & Leather" to "Metalhead" to "Heavy Metal Thunder" to "Princess Of The Night" to "Crusader" in front of 75,000-pluds loyal, ravenous fans, who have come to expect (and receive) the levels of performance SAXON have been delivering for 32 years.

"Heavy Metal Thunder - Live - Eagles Over Wacken" is available in a variety of formats, including the Golden Ticket D2C/Direct To Consumer Box.

Strictly limited, this exclusive package contains the "Best Of Wacken" DVD, plus the full and complete SAXON Wacken Open Air performances from 2004/2007/2009 each on a separate DVD, plus a SAXON flag.

"Call To Arms" sold around 700 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The CD debuted at No. 51 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200. The digipack version of "Call To Arms" includes a glorious bonus — a free seven-track CD, "Live At Donington 1980".

Yeah I totally agree Painkiller87,its a quality classic heavy metal rock album that is in my opinion the band's 3rd best LP. Not one bad song on it and it sure beats the tar out of Maiden's Final Frontier piece of shit album thats for sure.

SAXON: 'Call To Arms' North American Release Date Announced - June 30, 2011
"Call To Arms", the new album from British heavy metal legends SAXON, will be released in North America on September 27, with distribution from EMI. More details will be made available soon.

"Call To Arms" was issued in Europe via Militia Guard Music, UDR and EMI. Recorded at Chapel Studios in Lincolnshire, U.K. and Brighton Electric Studios in Brighton, U.K., the 11-track album was co-produced by singer/songwriter Biff Byford and Toby Jepson (LITTLE ANGELS). Featuring Byford on lead vocals, Paul Quinn and Doug Scarratt on guitars, Nibs Carter on bass and Nigel Glockler on drums, "Call To Arms" is bang on-the-money brilliant SAXON music, a confident embrace of the aura and writing values from their early years married perfectly to a modern SAXON crunch.

"This is probably the best album we've written and recorded in the last 20 years," stated Biff Byford unapologetically. "I know a lot of bands say that, but 'Call To Arms' really does feel like that to me. It's the perfect embrace of our past with a great modern edge."

Between the furious riffage of "Hammer Of The Gods" all the way through to "Ballad Of The Working Man", SAXON also found time to invite fans to sing on the nostalgic stomp of "Back In '79" thanks to a Byford brainwave the night before recording.

"We put something up on our website 24 hours before recording the track in Brighton, and funnily enough we had exactly 79 people show up on time to sing on the song," Biff said. "It was a fantastic result which is a direct tribute to 'Denim & Leather' where we did the same exact thing."

There is also a guest appearance from keyboard legend Don Airey (RAINBOW, ELO, OZZY OSBOURNE, DEEP PURPLE) on "When Doomsday Comes".

"Call To Arms" track listing:

01. Hammer Of The Gods
02. Back In '79
03. Surviving Against The Odds
04. Mists Of Avalon
05. Call To Arms
06. Chasing The Bullet
07. Afterburner
08. When Doomsday Comes (Hybrid Theory)
09. No Rest For The Wicked
10. Ballad Of The Working Man
11. Call To Arms (orchestral version)

Yeah I know, its not out yet over here either. Not sure when the due date is,I thought it was late June but I guess not lol! The band sucks for the lack of touring over here and now can't even get thier album out over here in time haha!  Well when it comes out you won't be disappointed, every track has something special to offer in traditional quality  british styled heavy metal and classic hard rock.

So I went in to a music store today to grab a copy of Call To Arms - no luck. I just hopped on to Amazon.com to grab a copy there - out of stock! ARGH!!!! LOL!!!
[J.D. DIAMOND] Saturday, June 11, 2011 4:24:03 AM
Yeah I know Becks that would be awsome. Saxon doesn't come to the U.S. that often, they tour Europe and keep busy but when it comes to dealing with a U.S. tour they are lazy and complacent about it and at the same time thier manager isn't helping either that much it seems anyways.

But thier new album is totally excellent, its worth checking out. I'd say its thier 2nd or 3rd best LP out of 19 studio albums. They really stick to the same formula and thats why thier albums keep coming out so good, they don't try and experiment too much .Sometimes the same thing isn't "bad" like so many people seem to think .

Now they have 8 straight studio albums that are the band's best 8 of their career. I'm sure they will deliver something special again for thier 20th studio album 2 years from now.

Wheels Of Steel live 2009 Wacken
[J.D. DIAMOND] Saturday, April 09, 2011 6:11:27 PM
Nope. Neve saw them. You know I didn't start getting into Saxon untill 2005 when my friend Tina from Walsall England got me into them. When she flew over here one of the times to stay with me for a week in 2005 she burned me thier entire discography, and yeah I knew their old stuff but thier albums from 1995 till now are so much better than thier old albums.

If I had to chose an era to see Saxon I'd chose anywhere in the last 16 years, but still yeah the Wheels Of Steel tour alone would of been cool to see......lol they looked so ridiculous back then haha but great first 5 studio albums before they went hair band lol!

Just heard the live version of the 2nd track off the new Saxon album 'Back In 79'  and also the track "When Doomsday Comes" and they both totally kicks ass,so "old school" style and  total quality song writting.

Damn these guys know how to deliver the goods man. This band is so damn underrated its not even funny, I'm totally stoked about this new album,I've got a vibe this new LP will rival Lionheart and any other Saxon masterpice!

3 new songs so far are 100% classic Saxon and the quality is excellent, I'm one happy dude today I'll tell you. I always get nervous listening to a new album because if I don't like a song when I first hear it I usually don't like it period and with first listen to these 2 new tracks I love them!!  Still 7 more songs to hear but the way its going so far I think this new album will be one of thier best!!!

If your a Saxon fan you DEFINATELY won't be disappointed. I'll post the songs when the studio versions are avaible.

Wow,that would of been awsome to be on Saxon's new song as the band invited 75 random fans down to the studio to sing back-up vocals for a new track, spur of the moment thing, but those fans who were able to make it down in time will be on the new album, what a rush that would be!

Totally!   This cover art work reeks of "Strong Arm Of The Law" style,I love it!  The old-timer guy's eyebrows look as thick as Biffs ha!!  I really hope I like 8 out of 10 songs(an album's worth)....thats all I'm hoping for. As I said,2009's first single off the album "Live To Rock" I can't stand,it sucks and it spanks of cheese let alone its fucking boring as hell.

So I wasn't to optomistic about Into The Labyrinth but when I heard the whole album I ended up liking 11 out of 13 tracks on it which made my day so I'm really hoping this new album I can get 8 songs from it since there are 10 tracks.

  4.Mists Of Avalon
  5.Call To Arms
  6.Chasing The Bullet
  7.Afterburner

  9.No Rest For The Wicked
10.Ballad Of The Working Man
[J.D. DIAMOND] Sunday, March 13, 2011 8:15:41 PM
I don't like the song title for  "The Ballad Of The Working Man" but the rest seems ok.

I just hope the new single is better than thier last album's "Live To Rock" which spanks of dull boring predictable radio crap,I hate that song and minus one more the rest of the album turned out really good and I'm hoping the Call To Arms album turns out with at least 8 songs out of 10 that are quality,if it doesn't I will be totally butt hurt.

To bad I'm not one of these people who like everything a band does without question,it would make it much easier that way to get excited about an album but Saxon like Judas Priest  means too much to me to be that way so my fingers are crossed.

Call To Arms
Against The Odds
When Doomsday Comes
Chasing The Bullet

These song titles sound cool!

No shit, you reckon that might be because the English settled the country?  [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Head banger from Saturday, March 05, 2011 10:16:38 AM)

LOL! Yes the intros they do sound similar I agree but Bad Boy Boggie and Wheels Of Steel in full are so different but I do understand where your coming from,Saxon is so hidden that it doesn't really matter. Now a popular band like Iron Maiden how the opening main riff for Wicker Man sounds closer to stealing that riff from Priest's Running Wild track ha!   Like I said I don't think AC/DC knows who Saxon is(lol!) and whatkind of cash could they get from Saxon,25 bucks? lol!

I didn't realise how thick my accent is till we went to England a couple of years ago, man we stood out like sore thumbs with the way we talk LOL!

Listen to the beginning one after the other, the same in a different key. When Biff comes in with the vocals it sounds as though it could almost be Bon. The main guts of the song is a little different but that intro is the same. They're not that far apart at all really. Far apart would be that fuckin Maiden vs Motorhead thread that some spastic started. So far apart you can't compare them

lol! Oh I don't think its a "rip" and I'm not trying to defend Saxon because I like them,I really don't think that the "song" is a rip I think maybe the opening "riff" is similar, but your really grabbin' at straws to make that close of a comparison because the songs are so far apart in difference in my opinion, but they do have AC/DC influences.

Na, my mum is from the north of England and I don't have any accent whatsoever. Lots of people down here and in Australia have parents from Britain but for some reason you don't get the accent. He was pretty legendary for his alcohol intake, that could have made him difficult to understand.

He sounds more buzzed there than normal. But even if he was young when he came here, would he not still have an inflection from being raised by his parents? I know he sounds much more high speed in some interviews and hard to understand than the others. Could be he was just plain out drunk 90% of the time. lol
Either way, I don't care. I loved him and was truly affected at the age of 15 still when he died.
They were the first band I just loved, and I was heartbroken that my parents took me on vacation to Florida instead of changing the world for me so I could go see the Highway to Hell tour in Roanoke, VA! I campaigned for it for months, but they would have none of it. Damn, if they only knew it would be the last time I got to see Bon!!  HA!!!  I don't think it would have changed their minds. lol
That's how teenagers think. lol

Yeah that's an Aussie accent alright, the guy interviewing him has a relatively mild Scots accent but Scots none the less. We pick up on Aussie accents as easily as we do Kiwi ones I reckon lol.

Actually that song Wheels Of Steel sounds exactly like the AC/DC song Bad Boy Boogie. Someone call a lawyer.

[jimmyjames] Friday, March 04, 2011 7:11:28 PM
Yeah I know that but Bon moved to Aussie when he was five or six, his accent is totally Aussie. Listen to this interview. He's actually being interviewed by a Scottish guy so you can hear the difference.

Actually Jimmy, Bon is not originally from Australia, his accent still carried at bit of the brog from his homeland of Scottland, that's why sometimes when he talked you couldn't quit keep up with him in a live interview. Angus and Malcolm were born in Scottland too but came to Australia as children so they don't have that.
Biff is from the northern part of England so it would make sense his accent my have been influenced by a bit of scott as well.

As far as pitch goes, I can see where you get that from. The upper range, which bon rarely hit and held for long, does sound close.

My two cents for the day.

Check out that vid budred posted of Wheels Of Steel, sounds very similar to old AC/DC. Not just Byford even the guitaring on that particular song has a 70s AC/DCish sound to it. The obvious difference are Biffs english accent and Bons aussie accent but to me they have the same kind of voice, power etc. This is not a bad thing by the way, just something I noticed.

I've noticed Biff Byford sounds a bit like Bon Scott when he sings, not on all songs but definately on some.

Budred look at this video from 1988 "I Can't Wait Anymore" from the 1988 Destiny album....haha what a sellout! Saxon spanks of poor aesthetics and songwritting in this video, song, album, year and era haha! They don't have golden balls hanging and everything they do isn't equal to everything else. I actually love this band and have an opinion about every song and every album, that is a real "fan". Lame video HA!

Yeah I've seen that before Budred, very cool.

Anybody wants to take a shot at Saxon in this thread so be it,I'm not here to force everybody to like them. If you think they suck then say so,it doesn't bother me as long as that person's intention is about conversation rather than just to post something to irritate people like the unworthy childish Brian_Evans does.
