You know something? That goes back to what I was saying yesterday about true talent and longevity. There is a reason bands like Three Dog Night and other so-called "older" bands are still out there playing... talent. Priest are only one example of true musicianship and real ability. Pop bands and so-called "pop stars" of today are not nearly as gifted...with exceptions, of course. Beyonce Knowles, for one. Incredible vocalist.

I certainly do not want folks to start thinking I hate all things current, because I don't. I simply take umbrage with the garbage that passes as "music" these days, especially when they are called "talented musicians".

About a week before the Priest concert in August this year I saw Three Dog Night with my roomates and one of their families. Actually they were quite good, and I just thought they were too old to keep playing.

Hmm...lessee....the two big non-metal shows I'd seen were Steely Dan on their tour in support of "Two Against Nature" in '02 (which fuckin' ruled), and in '05, my wife and I saw our two respective favorite bands a month apart from one another in the same arena (Jones Beach)...she went with me to see Priest...and I went with her (and our youngest daughter) to see Duran Duran....who impressed the hell outta me. I never thought they were all that bad as it was...but live...just like the adage says...the ONLY way to see if a band has true grit and merit.

Some years long before then, I accompanied my father who wanted desperately to catch this contemporary a capella group called M!Pact in this quaint club in NYC. He'd had this group appear live on his radio show a few days prior, and they sounded absolutely amazing (this ain't your Daddy's a capella group...LOL). The night we saw them they really pulled out all the stops and had a sizeable little crowd of about 100 or so on their collective ear....most impressive! This was back in '96, I think.

I just saw Bruce in NJ. Very disappointed on his setlist. 28 Songs, some hits and he finished with "Twist & Shout" I thought it was kareoke gone bad. I mean is it obvious Bruce thinks he is Bob Dylan.. Sorry Bruce you are not.

Stick with the hits. I wont shell any money to see that crap again. 2 Thumbs down!!
