Devils Child, Nostradamus is better than Chinese Democracy. But, I have to openly say that a real Guns N' Roses album (and not a bunch of guys playing under the name Gn'R, pretending to be Gn'R) would outdo any 'Priest effort. We saw it pretty clearly in 1991. However I must personally say that if it was 1991 and Operation Rock N' Roll tour and I got a choice between seeing Judas Priest or Guns N' Roses...the choice would be fucking tough. Anyways man, take into account that Chinese Democracy isn't Guns N' Roses so anything on that doesn't represent Gn'R at all.

I heard some of it on Youtube. Didn't tickle me one way or the other.

To be honest man, I actually bought the album(hear comes the garbage slinging from every hater on the site) I actually really like the album. It shouldnt be called a GNR album because the only thing that even slightly sounds like the original GNR is Axl's dieing vocals, and repetative ryhming and goofy lyrics. Music wise i think its a kick ass album, thanks to buckethead. Some how i think Axl probably got down on his knees and begged him to stay in the band. I wouldnt have bought it if he wasnt the main guitar player on it. Comparing it to Nostradamus is a joke though, no matter what anyone says Nostradamus is Metal, it may be slightly altered Metal through different songs, but still dominatly Heavy Metal. Chinese Democracy is some extremly mutated rock album.

Not to mention that Eddie Trunk was right in saying that the sound is actually distorted in many places.  You'd think after 15 years they could at least make it clear.
[devils_child] Sunday, December 14, 2008 2:04:29 AM
.... Well i'd hope 100% of people say that Nostradamus is better than Chinese Democracy..... How you can compare G'n'R to Priest I have no fricken idea.............. I have heard Chinese Democracy (Didn't buy it... as if i'd pay money for any G'n'R), my impression.... It's very flat. There is nothing special about it that's for sure. I won't listen to it again.. waste of time.

Well, it's finally over.  It started out good.  If you can get past the "it's not G&R" thing and take it for what it is, it got my attention through the first few songs.  I can even look past the next couple of tunes not being "worth the wait".  I really am trying to give this CD the benefit of the doubt, but I can't.

I really owe Priest an apology.  I was quite vocal about waiting so long for their last CD.  They took on one hell of a task and finished it more than 10 years faster than Axl !  It wasn't exactly my favorite Priest record, but it was better than Chinese Democracy and it didn't take a freakin' generation to finish.
[TIMBONI] Sunday, December 14, 2008 12:55:45 AM
14 ) Prostitute :  Crap.  Sound like a friggin' car commercial.
[TIMBONI] Sunday, December 14, 2008 12:50:31 AM
Now some more cool guitar work.  It's almost as if Axl is just creating sonic vehicles for guitarists.
[TIMBONI] Sunday, December 14, 2008 12:48:46 AM
13 ) This I Love :  So far  .  .  .  This I Hate !  Sounds like vocal scale training 101.  Ok, maybe 102.
[TIMBONI] Sunday, December 14, 2008 12:46:31 AM
Another aside comment  .  .  .  I'm really getting slapped in the face here.  Now I am hearing exactly why my bands could not get past that final hurdle for a deal.  We used to do the same shit that's being done here.  Over thought, self indulgent, forgoing the passion for "musicianship and artistry".  In the end, it just lays flat.
[TIMBONI] Sunday, December 14, 2008 12:42:33 AM
12 )  Madagascar :  Boring, generic and overdone.  Self indulgent bullshit.
[TIMBONI] Sunday, December 14, 2008 12:38:56 AM
11 )  I.R.S. :  Ingredients are there, but again it's just too flat.  Where's the fire ? !  !  !

[TIMBONI] Sunday, December 14, 2008 12:35:47 AM
10 )  Sorry :  Good tune, nice guitar playing and sound.  Almost like an emotional and slow Satriani.
[TIMBONI] Sunday, December 14, 2008 12:30:08 AM
9 )  Riad N' the Bedouins :  Again, way too little for the amount of time spent.  I've watched guys come up with a groovy little tune like this in an afternoon and it had a lot more balls than this over produced song.  Again with the tapping, staccato solo crap.  Gimmicks piss me off.
[TIMBONI] Sunday, December 14, 2008 12:26:36 AM
Aside comment  .  .  .  It's obvious Axl has his shit together and is really trying to make something here.  He just got too wrapped up in it and nobody had the balls to stop him before he fucked it up with too much thought.
[TIMBONI] Sunday, December 14, 2008 12:24:06 AM
8) Scraped :  Good groove, too polished.  Would be sooooooo much better in a much more raw form.
[TIMBONI] Sunday, December 14, 2008 12:19:55 AM
7) Catcher in the Rye : Generic.  Tight for what it is.  Expected a hell of alot more given the amount of time.
[TIMBONI] Sunday, December 14, 2008 12:16:24 AM
All that crap said, the end of this tune rocks into a jam that kicks some ass !  Why  .  .  .  I don't know, but it's cool.
[TIMBONI] Sunday, December 14, 2008 12:14:53 AM
6)  There Was a Time :  Odd tune.  All over the map sonically and arrangement.  Can't wrap my head around it yet.  Separately the pieces are good, but together it's hard to make sense of it.  It comes together at the end, but since the first part was so sporadic, it's difficult to understand how the song got here and why.
[TIMBONI] Sunday, December 14, 2008 12:08:35 AM
5) If the World :  Whoa !  Left turn !  70's funky with synths and fat bass line.  Here comes the guitar.  If you can handle a funky Axl, you'll dig this.  I like it, very cool.  I picture driving through downtown ( fill in the blank ) at 2 am in a 'de Ville.
[guidogodoy] Sunday, December 14, 2008 12:06:30 AM

4) Street of Dreams :  Lame.  Yesterday wanna be.
[TIMBONI] Saturday, December 13, 2008 11:57:31 PM
3) Better :  Interesting, if not odd, intro.  Comes in quick so it's not too annoying.  Nice punchy groove into a strong B section ala Lynch Mob feel.  I like this one alot.  A lot "Better".    Seriously, I think it's cool.
[TIMBONI] Saturday, December 13, 2008 11:53:37 PM
Just started it again.
1) Chinese Democracy :  Good tune.  Nothin' new, but good tune.
2 ) Shackler's Revenge :  Not bad, but sounds like a Rob Zombie rip off.

Ok, I'm ready for my thrashing.  I BOUGHT IT !  I've only listened to the first few tracks so far.  Very disjointed so far.  I do like a couple of tracks, but some of it is obviously pieced together from different time periods.  Axl sounds pretty good and the band is tight.  I'll give it a fair shake and chime in more later.  Anything somebody worked on this long at least deserves a couple of turns.

Haha I didn't think so either. But an album with Axl, Buckethead, Robin Finck and Bryan Mantia has gotta be good. At least the other 3 deserve a bit of money from me for their hard work. As for Axl he's still an asshole, but hey, at least there's something real good here.

Rolling Stone gave Chinese Democracy a four star review yesterday, the reviewer, David Fricke i think, thought it was a pretty awesome hard rock album. Big question is can it surpass AC/DCs' Black Ice as hard rock / metal album of the year.

I will never support him on anything he does (less Humanitarian in nature)...burned too many bridges and just a complete idiot...and for someone to post that we would have to treat other bands the same way because they replaced members, it's how he went about it, he was just as guilty (if not more) as anyone...to put himself on a pedestool () defies logic!!!

Axl's voice is sounded really shot on the single, and both my roommate and I were just completely unimpressed with it.  Whereas, most of the rockers who previously suffered from LSD (Lead Singer Disease) grew up, Axl has not and is still a complete ass.

sorry, but I just dont think that any one guy leaving a band should be the end of it.  all but one in the case of GNR, sure.  one guy, no matter how good doesnt cut it as making the whole band, or keeping the name.

[Dime/UNDER BLOOD RED SKIES!!!!] Monday, November 03, 2008 8:55:56 PM
you know ive been thinking about this. This whole story of GNR is just like megadeth. Almost without the out right lay claiming to the name of the band. Megadeth went through the same thing. Elifson was booted out of the band because he had asked Mustaine for a larger profit, not even negotaited or anything just kicked him out. Right after an awesome album, for me The World needs a hero brought back the kick ass Megadeth from the middle period, late 80's earluy 90's. The newer albums are ok, but they're missing. The System has Failed was good, but just not right. Don't really care for the new album, its heavy and fast but empty i dont know, still think its David Elifson missing.

The whole story of how Elifson joined the band was one of the best stories of a metal band coming together. Living underneath Dave Mustaine playing Running with the Devil base line early in the morning waking him up, and then throwing a flower vase from what i remember on his air conditioner. pretty funny. I dont know that just seems like a lot of parrallel's. I still think Dave should change the name from Megadeth to something else. Doesnt feel like Megadeth anymore.

GD I know your dislike of that fag Axl, and i totally agree with you man, he's a peice of shit. But i guess ive been trying to be a better singer over the last few years and i just respect people with powerful voices. no matter how much a peice of shit the little wuss bag is, i still stay he has a very strong voice, even on his new title track, and my ears cant deny. So even though i wouldnt piss on the asshole if he were on fire, he can still wail. Believe me when the day comes when he gets whats coming to him, ill laugh till my stomach hurts. I respect a really wide range of singers though, Roy Orbinson was an extremly insane vocalist in my opinion. I tend to like vocalists who can pump it out the most.Thats why i got into priest.  I've just heard of a band when visting my home town. The singer is probably one of the most insane vocalists ive ever heard. If you wanna hear off the wall vocals this band is it. He's almost on par with Rob on power. He does extremly low gutural and high halfordesque type vocals, blows the mind. I guess its all to ones prefrences though.

Agree with you though on Velvet revolver, Slash is one of the greatest guitar plays i was bummed he had such a shitty singer for his new band. Hope they get some one heavier this time.   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by guitardude from Friday, October 24, 2008 8:34:14 PM)

I dig Slash and the rest of the band. But just can`t get past Axl. Now Velvet Revolver, all day long dude!!!   But i will add to that,I`m also glad Weiland is gone. Hopefully they can get them a good powerhouse style of vocalist next.

Dude your just way to angry man, come on now. Life's to short to be that pissed off about something as stupid as that jack ass Axl. Sure he's a peice of shit and a lousy human being. Look at Ygnwie malmsteen( i think i spelled that wrong) He's a real stuck up peice of shit too, but he is an insane guitar player. To say it's famous people's right to be stuck up assholes isnt right, but at the same time there human to, it'll all catch up with them. Axls what now almost 20 years older and look at him he's fat and old now, its pretty funny and ironic that the Title track is about how he's got nothing but time, im guessing to wait for china to become a democracy, but the loser has wasted half his life doing nothing but tryiing to put together another Use your illusion. Will he ever do it? Fuck no! He's got some hardcore little man syndrome, or maybe LSD as Eddie Van halen dubbed it. "Lead Singer Disease". Its all gone to his head. That's what the entertainment industry is all about in the 20th century. Look at every kind of music nowadays and you'll find handfuls of stuck up assholes who out there for number one. Axl Rose is just one of the crowd.
[Screamin' Demon] Friday, October 24, 2008 6:12:07 AM
That album is not Guns N' Roses. Axl is a pathetic retard the way he took the name in 1991 by blackmailing the band that he would quit and walk out on his obligation to record his vocals for UYI albums and sing for the booked long UYI tour, unless they give him the name. Now he uses the name Gn'R without Gn'R. If you have any respect for Guns N' Roses people, DO NOT buy this album because his current band are a bunch of moochers who have no respect for the Gn'R legacy and its meaning, so they live off it and use it for their own projects together. Support the true Gn'R and boycott this album. It's already bad enough that Axl's ass kissers want to inflate the sale figures by buying 3 copies each, just because they want to make the album look like a bigger success. An album without Slash, Izzy and Duff, with just Axl Rose on it will never be Guns N' Roses. Piece of shit Axl Rose
