Right as i suspected my computer has crashed..... Eh! I'm using the computer at the library to type this. I had a virus sneak in on me yesterday morning whilst on the board. I ran spybot and my anti-virus which i thought would catch the problem. It found a load of problems, removed them. I restarted my computer and the problem was still there. I'm going to have to wait until i get some cash either this week or next so i can pay for my hired computer geek. Hopefully i won't have to wait too long.

I will try and get down to the library later in the week to try and keep some sort of touch with the board. Anyways! I will miss talking to you guys... But don't worry.... I SHALL RETURN!!! Mwahaha!!

People still have stereos??????????  WTH?  I got rid of mine years ago and haven't looked back!  I prefer to use my laptop for my music.

Ron, I bet you plugged your speakers in wrong.

I would to Ron since my computer sounds better than any stereo I have these days. sub wolf, all that, much better than my old stereo
[guidogodoy] Sunday, March 15, 2009 8:52:24 PM

Ron,

Your answer about "C drive" really leads me to believe that you aren't going to be able to fix it yourself (holding back a chuckle...). We could go back and forth trying to troubleshoot this one but I think Spa is right...you need your geek friend as it is usually an easy problem to fix for someone "in the know."

Just to cover the basics, you DO have your speakers plugged in properly, no? I have a 5.1 system and all are different but you get primary sound out of the green socket. Basic but obvious mistake.

Another thing to try. Put a CD into your CD/DVD/CDRW drive and plug a pair of headphones into the jack of the drive. Any sound there?

Fair enough question...truth be told, I wasn't on the comp when he dropped in and being he was dropping off some delicious food, my mind wasn't on it...but he is very much aware now, so we'll see within the next few days or so...I mainly miss YouTube as I have the home stereo for company...but I do miss it...a lot...

Try updating your driver Ron? Could be when you went from Vista to XP the old driver no longer works. Try to go to Realtek and upload a XP compatable sound driver.

"Main driver?!" No such thing. All drivers control one part of the motherboard or add-in card.

Terminology aside, do you know the make of your soundcard? Is it built in or an add-on? Creative (believe it or not) had MAJOR problems with Vista, for example.

If you have no idea how to find what I am asking, lemme know. BTW (says the guy typing on the Mac), Vista got better with the SP fixes...thus the "Mojave experiment" to change public perceptions. Still, I have XP running on four of my own personal build machines. Vista was a royal bomb.

It neeeds a little bit more time to scan the hard disk.
Avira needs 25 minutes, Kaspersky 35 minutes.
It's an older system here, think it's running faster
with a new mainboard.

Well my friend, it very well could be. You see, I am not a very computer-savvy guy. I do not understand these damn machines and I am very limited in what I can do. The thing is, for the last month or so, my computer has been acting up with the SAME problem; it keeps kicking me off my wireless connection! I have to constantly re-connect. Now laptops are probably very different depending on the label, but I would say DON'T pull of the keys ... I did and ended up with a broken keyboard / new pc ...
You can buy compressed air to clean between the keys, just don't come too close or it can "blow them of"
Good luck

Well, this isn't exactly a computer problem...but I'll ask anyway:

What's the best way to clean a laptop keyboard? I tried cleaning it earlier today, but I can still see some dust and debris underneath the keys. Is there any way that I can get it all out? IS it okay to pull out the keys in order to clean what's under them?

You know Bev, that is a GREAT point. Admin does always come through. How many years has this site been in existence? Long before I got here, that's for sure. Murray,  like many, has a real job and this is not it. Yet, he has always been responsive (albeit on his time) and effective. With no one here to speak for him and no mods, he has managed to keep the OFFICIAL site of Judas Priest alive and well for years. Remarkable!

I can think of countless times that some idiot has come here with the sole desire to disrupt and harrass and Murray has acted. We should be very grateful to him for the things he does for us...for free. That's a BIG deal. We are members here for FREE. We welcome new fans here, for free. We have created a wonderful group, for free. We spend countless hours, chatting, posting pictures, joking and supporting one another.  For free.

[Bev] Sunday, February 22, 2009 8:15:03 AM
Personally, I wish whomever does these sorts of things would leave this site alone.

Not trying to stir things up for anyone ... It's not like Murray, or anyone else involved in keeping this site running, is paid to do this job; nor do we pay for membership here.

I know I have been an annoyance to him in the past, bothering him over the smallest thing.  But admin at this site has always come through.  Because he has his own business my guess is it only means it might take a little longer to get to the issue.  But I'm confident that he responds efficiently when he is made aware of issues.

Let's continue to do our part, too:  keep current security updates, scan regularly, report issues, be patient.
[Return_of_Darth_Painkiller_0870] Sunday, February 22, 2009 7:02:09 AM

The indian tech support so many times seems delayed and even some times there will be an echo of the whole conversation as you get on many overseas calls. It is very cool though when my Norton messes up, which it does about everytime I update it, all I have to do is call india and a person halfway around the world will actually take over my computer and fix it. So funny to see the programs being flipped through and the mouse going everywhere and you are not doing a thing. LOL They know what they are doing, that is all that matters.

actually...there are a lot of companies that offer tech support here in costa rica and other central american countries...wether you request tech support in English or spanish they answer the phone...the problem is that many people who work in the English section doesn't speak English as they should...also we have companies in charge of surveys (like datascention) and others like sykes and so on...that's maybe why they usually don't understand what you say...or you can't understand what they try to say...

I was hoping we english speaking people were not the only ones plagued with the bad phone connection and usual uptight service I have come to expect from our indian techie wonders. i will say though if you get an indian female techie she is always more pleasant and fun to talk to.

THAT I can answer 100%. Yes. You do get tech support in Spanish. Funny as you often hear an Indian accent in Spanish! LOL.

Try Swhalihi, though! Good luck!

Which brings up another interesting question. If  you live in a spanish speaking nation and you have a tech issue, when you call and ask for tech support in espanõl, do you get an indian person speaking spanish? Someone please tell me the answer to this!   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by guidogodoy from Saturday, February 21, 2009 1:15:04 PM)

(In his best Indian tech-support voice)

Dear sir, I am not understanding what you mean by this "do-dad" terminology. Does this mean your father cannot use the phone?

There should have been a manual that explains everything in plain-japanese. I would refer you to that document as, while I work for Cricket, I do not actually own a cellphone. If it works either way, I would advise you to leave it off.

Is there anything else that I may assist you with today? Ok, please take a few minutes to fill out our automated survey and have a good day!

I have "Cricket" wireless. I have a little doo-dad ( high tech word) that I plug into the side of this thing and I have internet access. The little doo-dad has a switch on it.  I have noticed that, whether I turn on this switch or not, I have internet. So, what the heck is it for???????????
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..................

Knowing that (and just about to run out the door to work), WHEN the problem is happening, do a CTRL+ALT+DEL.

Look for anything under Processes that says "not responding." If, by luck, you find something, select it and shut it down.  Try it and report back. Gotta run.

Lawd hab mercy....I tell ya this right now....the ONLY thing I'd ever have to contribute to this thread would be problems, gripes, oversights, questions, curiosities and other tech-tard dilemmas....

....don't expect solutions, answers, possibilities, quick-fixes or anything too useful from THIS kid...

Necro, you still haven't said much about your system itself. What OS?! Windows XP or Vista? You said you cleaned it, ok, if you are sure then a "process" isn't letting go. Hard to advise how to shut down the culprit without knowing even what verson of Windows you run.

As for what type of CD/RW you have, you certainly can tell without taking apart a machine. Assuming Windows XP: RIGHT click on My computer / pull down to Properties / hit the Hardware tab / then Device Manager button. Click the plus sign next to the CD drives and it will give you all the info you need about your drive without taking it apart. Even if it is only a number (as it probably will be if your drive is old). Take that info down exactly as given (dashes and all if included) and google it with quotes. Voila.

Again we googled this - they recommended several options....basically if i want to lose the cd flash i reboot and it goes..otherwise is there permanently....but only if i use the CD drive...and again is ok if open or a disc is in...i HAVE cleaned it...that ain't the problem..

i'll manage i guess.

I have to sleep...is 3.42 Am.....agh.
