I am enjoying playing the guitar I received on Christmas Day.  I wish I could attend more than one live concert/performance.
Unfortunately I suffer from claustrophobia, so attending concerts with large numbers of people isn't possible or to my liking.
I do however buy your recordings.  It is possible to do so without having to like a Band or anything written or said about them.
My interest is not personal and it is my preference that it stays this way.  Bye.

Yes, you do.. That is where the patience factors in.. If it was that easy, everyone could do it !! Don't expect to rock out Diary Of A Madman in a week or so....  Staying focused on the goal is the key, don't expect major advancements on a daily basis.. If anything, record yourself once a week so you can hear how you progress to maintain positive momentum...

Time is what you`ll need, and lot`s of it. Once you find that groove, you`ll figure things out easier and then it will come together nicely, but as SDB allready mentioned, time, time, time with patience , patience , patience!
Good luck

I learned by listening. I would watch the guitarist to see what sounds he would get and where his fingers were at. I loved the guitar and the sound so much that it motivateed me beyond anything to learn. I would watch glen alot. I would play along with the priest records. Black sabbath riffs are always killer. They make you smile inside when you get the changes down. It takes time. you need to be motivated no matter what. It comes down to how you manage the different techniques with your hands and body. That is a major factor on your tone. And the reasons for weilding the axe affect your phrasing.
[Nupe The Ripper] Wednesday, May 11, 2011 8:49:44 AM
I haven't studied guitar playing at all. When I started last December, I just googled for Judas Priest tabs (as well as looked though this sites tab section) and started playing. My friend who was played a guitar for like ten years has taught me a little bit about how to improve my finger dexterity, but nothing else. When I study a new song, I just look at the tabs from the 'net and listen to the song inquestion to get the rhythm correct. Then I'll just go through one structure over and over again until I can play it at least with the same tempo as the original. Then I'll move on to the next part, until I get the whole song nailed.

Mind you though, I can't play any solos at all, as my fingers aren't that fast yet.
[J.D. DIAMOND] Wednesday, May 11, 2011 6:01:51 AM
Budred, listen to SDBinNY.  Just Youtube it and wing it man, blah the guitar lessons....who wants another text book scale guitarist anyways right?  I never took lessons but I taught myself by watching Glenn and K.K. but mainly Glenn is and always has been my favorite.

I am not as good as Glenn obviously,my solos are more like a Jimmy Page,Ace Frehley, early 70'sTony Iommi style....I can do a few fast scales ect... without sounding like them if that makes sense so I never got advanced with insane sweeps, insane scales fast as lightning ect....its funny because when I was younger thats what I was aiming for but now I wouldn't want to learn how to get "better' because it would ruin the style I have now because nowadays everybody sounds the same.  As how to learn yeah just youtube it and wing it from there.

Most people posting here seem to know quite a bit about guitars. I got one for christmas and I need to learn how
to play it. I Know an old man who is a country musician. He lowered the strings closer to the neck for me. He gave me
a "Bad Monkey" tube overdrive and a "Main Squeeze" compressor. I bought a Korg tuner and he showed me how to
tune my guitar. The only thing now is to start learning. Is their anyone here willing to help a newbie. I was hoping
someone here could suggest a site to teach me some "simple" things to practice and help myself get started. I've
never touched a guitar before so any advice has to be simplistic. Could anyone tell me what  these pedals do. Any
advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm to old to become a musician but I've always wanted to play
a guitar. I don't expect to get great I just want to learn to play something. If you guys only want to talk to advanced players
it's all good. Thanks, regardless. Peace!

Should work OK after the distortion, but it will amplify any noise that makes it to the input.
[Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by SDBinNY from Sunday, April 24, 2011 8:13:39 PM)
[SDBinNY] Sunday, April 24, 2011 8:13:39 PM
I  run a splitter off my wireless, one to a Boss AC 2 Acoustic Simulator, the other to a Vox Wah, and Boss MT-2, both those outputs into an A/B  switch, then to a Digitech Turbo Flange, steroed out to 2 halfstacks (everything runs direct, have not tried to run stereo loops yet).. Have decided I will need to build a new pedal board and see where the CS-3 will work best in the chain (may not need it in front of the AC-2 as it already has some compression built in)..This will also give me the opprtunity to get the rest of the pedals out of mothballs.. I  have also read that it works well after the distortion, but before modulation, so may try that as well.. I don't know.. Going to have some fun noodling with it, though...
[guitardude] Sunday, April 24, 2011 11:12:36 AM
Put it first in line and start with the recomended settings for the sound you want. Then experiment for what works best for you. Attack and sustain are the most notable differences you`ll hear.
When you figure out your attack, you`ve made a huge step. It`s dependent on you picking style.
For my level control, I ran it at 60%, it gave me a hot signal that would help keep noise down in the other pedals that made lot`s of noise when turned up.
Sustain, is subject to over kill, it will drag out your passages, sometimes more than you want. So go sparingly on that or turn off the compressor for those passgaes you want to tail off sooner.
Tone, up to you, I ran it 80% for the top end, it can get shrill depending on the rest of your settings along the way.

Compressor`s are great, they bring up the signal as it decays and level`s out the peaks if you get ham fisted. They perform better with the AC adaptors, batteries never last long in them. And the sound change is drastic with a low battery.
I used to leave mine on all the time.

Thanks for the advice, guys. Much appreciated, as always.
[SDBinNY] Saturday, April 09, 2011 4:03:23 PM
Relative humidity and how the guitar is stored will effect string life, too.. Wipe them down after you play, and you will hear when they get "stale"...
[guitardude] Saturday, April 09, 2011 2:45:51 PM
What kind of strings ? That can surely open up a can of worms, kind of like the old "oil" debate!!
Personally, I like light gauge strings (.009-.042). KK uses a .008 -.038 I believe.
And any good brand will done fine... Ernie Ball, D`Addario, GHS etc.

To answer Lady Vail`s question, depends on how often you play them, many factors contribute, sweat, cleanliness of the hands, how the strings are cared for after they are played and so on.
Casual player should be able to go around 5-6 months and still have a decent sound.

Nice!! I like the way the guitars on the sofa (couch?) are arranged. KK V on the left, Glenn SG on the right. Very cool.
And lookit the mini-v with its parents! Awwww!

Wow Meltdown thats awsome!!!!  I'll work for you then(lol!) I'm definately sure you can pay me $21 bucks an hour which isn't much these days ha!(true...I'm not kidding....) But I like "Shot Peen"...nobody messes with me,I can listen to tunes all day and I'm actually pounding steel all day long and hearing it being pounded like Priest heard the mills grinding on thier way to school haha!

The majority of what I do is freaking paperwork and typing in information on a computer which is a piece of cake to me but sometimes it gets mind boggling, too many numbers ect...but thats if I do an extra amount of jobs in one night ect.... but I do like shot peening though, its very theriputic to me for some reason...probably the pounding steel effect haha!

Nice guitars once again Meltdown...I so ache for a new guitar!!  My house needs some improvements so buying a guitar is not on my agenda yet...maybe about this time next year perhaps....

Me either. I remember the guitar but not "the boys" either playing or even endorsing them. Interesting....

Ok, Thanks Phantom A6, now I remember them, JJ French of Twisted Sister played one for a while, but I don`t recall KK or Glenn playing them.
