I just stoped here to say that the new album Redeemer of Souls is great.
I like this things:
It has so many songs, great that you decides to record and release so amny songs. Some of the extra songs is in fact better than some of the regulars in my ears. I hoped that you would release a new double album and you basicly did that. Keep on doing that, please!
I especially like that you have gone back to your roots with some of the songs, like for instance "Beginning Of The End" that sounds a bit 70-ties, you know Black sabbathish - and Sabbath is one of my absolut favourit bands. Please, more songs like that, I just love it.
We have several new classics on this album and you can forget all those who think this is a weak album - it is one of your best, without questions!!!
Just keep on going, Priest, and keep on feeding us more albums like this!

I'm looking forward to the new album. Everything Priest does is magical.

Judas Priest has the humour to understand my sence of having a good time here on the noticeboard.
They know by now I am a half.witted blockhead.... or rockhead - what ever you choice..
Anyone else with new-album names and ideas?
For heavens sake, Priest - hope you re not thinking of retirement.

But, folks, I dont believe we will see a new epic from the Leather Priests for some time yet.
Why?
People, we all need to see the truth when it appears to us, dancing naked in bare honesty :
Priest are now older and tired, their beaten and crumbled bones, shivers in frustration and screaming for relief. Those limbs of frustration have
flown many a mile during many golden moons for faith and country.
They have done their Heavy Duties of Metal for decades, with amazing heart and willpower and met the metal-hungry world at full frontal rock n
roll-confrontation.
Tiredness sets in, we all know this in our sad hearts and hazy minds!
Questions has risen about the future of Priest.
Have Priest burn their best powder, are they throwing in their swetty and torn-fringy towels.
Do they kindly and willingly let all the hungry young challengers for the Metal Throne around the globe take over and settle for a life in the
boring shade again.
Will Judas Priest ones again be down their amongst the other bands in the dirt of the old and poor country.
Even if cd Nostradamus was great, they could do even better.
I think Priest will do at least 2 more albums, and both must be doubles, perhaps called:
1) "Black Country" - a dark album that insults the worlds metal-hating nerds a last and final time with metal on the limit of crying blood and eating
dirt kind of metal-experience. An album that bends itself in and out of dark, fast and heavy supermetal. (In simplier words: songs similar to
Hellrider and Night Crawler - but with a dark and trembling twist of songs in the likes of Victim of Changes or The Ripper)
2) "Major Metals´ Lions Hearts Pub Band" - an fantastic album that will go further down the glory alleys of creativity and artistry than any band has
done before (including ALL bands, get that). An amazing and also fantastic insight in the future to come in Metal - when reaching the highest of
artistic steeples.
The question is:
Will Priest be able to do this - or will they bang out on this!
Think how hungry Priest will be soon and wants to go out on tour. Think of how badly they need to eat their hearts out on a metal-stage near
you.
They can´t do that well without a nice double album to back them up. The interrest will not be as great without many new songs under the belt.

Right, Vail, about the passion thingy.
And yes, I am a Christian, but as you might have noticed, not a prudish one.
To me, "sin" is being non-loving. As humans, we can't avoid sinning in this way, but I do try to learn from my mistakes and reform myself.
Re music, I can't stand the neo-Christian "Jesus came to me" drone. I tried that and new age music for years, and it was driving me nuts. I needed somethin with a different meaning of nuts.
So I listen to any sorta metal that's not explicitely anti-Christian, like I enjoy Slayer, but not Dimmu Borgir. Fortunately I don't even like the music of bands like DB and Nile.
I see that there are both Christians, agnostics, and self-declared atheists on this board, maybe even Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, and Hindus, and that's great. I love individuality and diversity.
Nicky, there's absolutely nothing wrong with Hellrider. There's nothing wrong with having a strong passion for Judas Priest Heavy Metal. There's nothing wrong with expressing your love for the greatest band in the world every day. Unless you consider that a sin, as much as you probably think that putting up pics of Judas Priest and worshipping their looks and music at the same time is a sin. Are you sure that you, a "civilized" person, can handle us savages?

The only album in the world I'v given 100/100
I'v already written a lot about Nostra (as they call it in the Priest forum) in the Room. But let me sum up. It has everything that I love in rock music:
1) It has a calm and balance in both music and lyrics that only very experienced musicians can render. (Priest go back to 1969.)
2) It brings to life the deep Christian feelings that I experience.
3) It tells the story of a human who went his own way in his seeking, first feeling alone, but after terrible ups and downs, with strong conviction pursued what he felt was his dharma or holy path.
4) Despite being ostracised and persecuted, Nostradamus showered his love and respect onto all human beings, rich and poor, by treating them medically, psychologically and existentially.
5) Rob Halford is a unique singer, and very mature. He fills the shoes of Nostradamus with conviction, terrific and terrible.
6) All of the wide-ranging musical and philosophical experiences of the guys are brought into this work, in perspective and balance. It's a cornucopia of music. There's no other work I know of that has such a range of moods, thoughts, and musical expression.
Priest's Nostradamus is a monumental work !!!

AOR was excellent classic priest record and "most" know it. Will they ever make a Screaming or Steel ever again? Probably not. But these guys still got juice left and they'll still deliver the goods. Even if they did make an album as incredible as Screaming or something it wouldn't get the props anyway. The music biz is so fucked nobody would ever know. I mean we the die hards would but Screaming and all that was at a time when they were in there prime.

Don't get me wrong guys. I also really like Priest's heavy stuff (as well as Iced Earth's, Nevermore's and others'). I just see that Priest are taking up more religious and spiritual themes, and Nostra has more mellow passages than earlier albums. I foresee more of that, but I'm sure they'l also have some more great "blistering metal", like Death and Future Of Mankind.
Nicky.

Nostradamus is a Masterpiece!!!
I`m glad many Judas Priest fans recognize this, though it does not surprise me. What surprises me is the negative view some fans have about Nostradamus which is a profound, mature and sophisticated album that shows evolution!. We should all applaud and take our hats off to the Metal Gods ( as Nikitah Imani said ). They challenged themselves and dare to do something different and sensational. I would love to listen to Nostradamus live in its entirety!!!
Congratulations Metal Gods!!!

yes, it is italian. Nostradamus was french but he knew several languages of couse, besides, amog his travels he visited Italy many times... besides as I read in wiki "..feeling vulnerable to religious fanatics, he devised a method of obscuring his meaning by using "virgilianized" syntax, word games and a mixture of other languages such as Greek, Italian, Latin and Provençal".... I don't know if those words were written by Nostradamus as I still can't find where or from wich book they transcribed those words (if they did) [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by METALMANJP from Friday, January 30, 2009 8:53:22 AM)

Got the 3-LP version of Nostradamus - definitely the way to hear it.
Took me a long time to get into this record, at first I was wondering WTF they were trying to do. Then I read the "Classic Rock" review, where they simply said "it's a concept album. Get used to it". So I listened again, properly. Holy shit! Nice work gentlemen :-) Very brave, and well done on the Grammy nominations. About time the industry took notice of the greatest band of all time!

This is my second post ever. (First being on June 22nd in this thread).
As i stated in my first post they have done this for a bigger purpose then most of us are seeing. Re-read my first post and Rob's comments will now make sense.
This was posted in the "Around the Horn" thread today:
"Encouraged to imagine himself gazing into a crystal ball on the cover of the latest issue of Decibel Magazine (seen below), Halford said, "I do predict that Nostradamus' is going to be embraced. I can see it being performed by Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas. I think I can also se a Grammy in there."
In my original post I should have stated Las Vegas instead of Broadway show.

I am enjoying Nostradamus. Sure, it is not your Standard British Metal album, but there are heavy songs done in a different way. I like how Rob's voice transcends you back to the old say Sad Wings or Sin after Sin days. Althought there are a few prodding songs and some of the intro stuff are a bit long, I think you have to view it as a whole epic piece. Maybe it is a bit obscure for the new Priest fan, but for the diehards it puts alot of perspective into Priest and their careers, which is literally at the sunset. They can do what the want and it is still meaningful to me after following them for 30 years. Maybe the outside world is scratching their heads and saying why did they release this? But, this JP fan is smiling and looking forward to seeing them live again in August for the 35th time. Thanks for all the years of music and the new Nostradamus JP.

First off, I just want to thank Nikitah Imani for your post. I completely agree with you. If the band doesn't challenge themselves musically, then are they just in it for the money?? That's the impression I get. I'm still trying to figure out what the heck has drawn Judas Priest so close to my heart! Part of the appeal is they've covered so many different styles, so if I feel summery and want to listen to something light, I can throw in Turbo. If I need to be more aggressive/assertive, I throw in Defenders or Painkiller. If I'm feeling old school, then I throw in Rocka Rolla or Sad Wings of Destiny (one of my all time favorites). I have all of the Priest catalogue with Rob Halford, and though I've listened to Priest with Tim Owens (ie, Hell is Home) I can't bring myself to get into those CDs. Which really isn't fair to the rest of the band that kept slogging away while Rob was off doing his thing. So basically the band has created an entire discography that covers virtually every mood you might be in, which is in effect GENIUS but also tremendously DIABOLICAL!! Why go anywhere else, when you get it all here. (Except for country of course! Which I'm not enamoured with, though I don't hate it.) Nostradamus is just the icing on the cake really. I love classical music, and have been to musicals and Vegas shows, so to have a heavy metal, or better yet, Priest version of a heavy metal opera to listen to. AWE-SOME! I was a bit leery about the whole idea at first, but who the h*ll was I kidding?! IT'S PRIEST! What's not to love! I've been listening to these 2 cds for 2 weeks already and can't get enough. I have thrown in a little Halford (Resurrection) and some old Priest just mix it up a bit, so I don't od on it, but essentially I wake up with Nostradamus tunes in my head and go to sleep with them swimming around up there. Thanks a lot guys!
I am very excited about the band coming to Winnipeg, however, I am mildly disappointed to discover that it won't be the full on Nostradamus show. Now I'm trying to figure out where the full shows will be, and how much it's going to cost me to fly there! I hope they do some Canadian Nostradamus shows, or even Minneapolis. That's a short jaunt for us and maybe I can convince the hubby and boys to come out with me. Either way, the concert will be awesome and I am so glad they are coming back again.
Thanks for the brilliant new cd boys! It is a masterpiece!

A few years ago for the hell of it I listened in a day to bunches of versions of Johnny B. Goode done in many musical styles and guess what, JP's version was BY FAR one of the best. Whether they were making fun of the song or paying homage, it really isn't all that bad. It is out of place in Ram It Down, but when I was a kid I thought it was cool. I still don't think it's all that bad. [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by Nikitah Imani from Monday, July 07, 2008 9:31:17 PM)

Priest doing Johnny B Goode was trying to bring it full circle. It all comes from this deep sense of opening the social envelope. Subvert the dominant paradigm...defend the faith.

Hello Metalians,
I've been listening to "Nostradamus" for 3 weeks now.
But I've waiting for The Priest to deliver this Masterpiece for more than a decade.
So thank you my "METAL GODS" for the biggest album you've ever made.
I've seen you this year in Dusseldorf and at GRASPOP with yet another great performance.
But I'm really waiting for next year to see "Judas Priest" bring the entire Nostadamus album Live on Stage with a bigger than ever show an hopefully with a lot of musicians (Clasic instuments) on stage.
To everyone on this site,Enjoy The Metal Gods Wherever they performe and enjoy Nostradamus.

Priest has never been about commercial, even though from time to time, they had a "hit." I didn't get Point of Entry, but it was Priest and I took it as evolution. Turbo I liked except for the synthesized guitars which were new and again evolution as they were used more effectively as time went on. But the core of the things that made me a Prest fan are present in the new record. History is filled with records like this that were masterpieces that had zero commercial success and then suddenly everybody realized later that something was going on. It's funny to me because I remember Vengeance when YGATC came out and a lot of "true believers" said Priest has sold out. It went triple platinum but took a decade or so to do it. Priest is about artistry. Real metal is about that to. The minute metal or any form of music becomes what the masses are into today, its doomed. I watched my intellectual, socially conscious hip-hop turn into stupid, juvenile drug-laced rants and fake gangsters. From Rakim Allah to whoop dere it is. I could have bought in, but I committed to my music. 20 years later, I'm still here as that mess slowly fades. Priest is an inspiration to me for that reason. In 2009 I will release my 15th album MiddleMan, a Biblical concept album with lots of symphony and metal elements. It won't be commercial and it's different from my typical style, but it's the best I've ever done as an artist. I respect Priest across genres for coming out "all guns blazing." And as hard as they try, they will never take away the title Judas Priest have earned anymore than those of us in hip-hop no matter how "hard-core" can forget a group from New York rapping to a Chic remix. Without them, I would not be here. I might do a different style, but my hats are off to the masters. Priest isn't about making a hit or even one mega-album, but the catalog, the discography, the duration. I'm heading out to the highway in August to see them at Verizon and I'll be there if I'm all by myself singing along with my favorite "artists."

Forgot to mention that every day when I leave home for work, I listen to the following lines, and it keeps me going...
As I leave my room And lock the door I know I'll live forever more
While this is a concept album about Nostradamus, it can be very personal too. We are all Nostradamus in our way...
I don't understand the widespread negative review on the web. Were they just expecting another rehash of one of their old works? If there is a band that can come up with this metal masterpiece, it is Judas Priest, what with Rob's vocals and Glenn and KK's guitar virtuosity. This album is their crowning achievement. I am not lying, I do not want to listen to any other music (even Judas Priest's) other than this album, at least for a while. I feel I will lose the magic, the atmosphere, the feelings I get from listening to this, if I listen to anything else. Edited at: Sunday, July 06, 2008 1:18:10 AM

Hi,
I am a long time fan of Judas Priest, relatively speaking, as I am just 29. My favorite bands other than JP are Metallica and Pink Floyd. Other than these, I just listen to 'greatest hits' of other bands and not whole albums. This list is pretty huge as one such band whose greatest hits I can listen to is 'The Cranberries.
It has been a long time since I couldn't get enough of a single album. Albums that come to mind are Metallica's 'Master of Puppets', '..And Justice For All', Judas Priest's 'Defenders of the Faith', 'Painkiller'. I am proudly adding 'Nostradamus' to that list. Let me be clear that I am being true to my conscience and musical palate and my opinions are not distorted by the fact that I am posting in a Priest forum and have to toe-the-line, so to speak.
Even though I dig the whole album, I would like to list some of my personal high-points(could be song or interlude) of this masterpiece from the Metal Gods. Just to tell you where I come from, my personal favorite from Painkiller is 'Between the Hammer and the Anvil'. So, if I did not mention some of the Priest-like songs in my list below, it is not because I don't like them but because I know that they are instant hits as far as I am concerned.
1. DEATH -- I don't dig dark metal or death metal and I don't know how these other bands play this type of music. From start to finish, this song is haunting and inexorable, like the Grim Reaper himself. Halford's vocals, Glenn and KK's solos, the overall mood of the song just makes me but think of that hooded thing with its scythe riding out for reaping.
2. WAR - Epic, quite an unchartered territory for Priest, not in the concept of war but in the music that they use to express that concept. Swords clanging against one another, just awe-inspiring, and all of this without having to resort to their staple guitar solos.
3. EXILED - Very emotional and atmospheric, as if I am the one who is exiled
4. ALONE - New Priest Anthem. This song goes to show that the band writes and performs to their fans. We just wanna be -- LEFT ALONE!!
5. LOST LOVE - Emotional. Better than 'Before the Dawn', 'Angel' etc.
Other personal favorites -- Shadows in the Flame, VISIONS, Calm Before the Storm, The Four Horsemen, Peace, CONQUEST, REVELATIONS.
The whole album is a masterpiece. And it rocks!

Judas Priest the Metal Gods have truly made a spectacular and fiercely powerful album, "Nostradamus"...With this album they, once again, show us all something they haven't done before...but this time we're not talking about just a new kind of metal music or new metal album with some new riffs etc, we're talking about the magnum opus of Judas Priest.
They have always been very humble about themselves, in the beginning they learned their lesson of how to appreciate and respect. And most of all, work hard with commitment to their cause and fans that fuel their fire. Now, when their career spans 5 decades and 16 studio albums, Judas Priest are still going strong, but are now even more majestic and forceful than ever before. The new album testifies and confirms their godhood in the heavy metal world. There's absolutely no band on this earth that can ever exceed the prowess of Judas Priest. Only one currently recording band line-up can reach the same level of authority, but even they can't go beyond and above this excellence...
This album is very big, sadly too big for those who don't like/appreciate/understand this. That's too bad.
"Nostradamus" is the finest hour of Judas Priest, the crown of their already superior career. I'm so proud to have been and to continue to be their ardent fan.

I live in Canada and only the single disc seems to be available.
I have been a Priest fan from the start and cannot wait to get my hands on this new release.
Thanks

Hi everybody from a not so hot Sweden.
Hope you all already got the great album Nostradamus in your collection. In my opinion one of the top 3 priest albums. I think they got it all right. Robs voice sounds as good as you can expect, the guitarr work is as everytime tremendous, Ian is doing his job and Scott is giving the drums a hell of a time.
I really recomened this record. Its a new path that Judas Priest is on and i love it=)
I wish you all a great summer with a lot of songs from Nostradamus or any other Priest record that will blow your speakers....
Keep the faith Metallians of the Judas Priest clan

hi tasnami, no disrespect, but why would Judas Priest write for the masses instead of their fans? I could see Rob Halford in the Rocky Horror Show, and Glen Tipton doing Don Juan but aside from that I don't see how they could do Broadway. Of course, I might be wrong...wouldn't be the first time.

This is my first ever post. I have been lurking this site for years (since its beginning) and signed up two years ago but never posted to a topic yet.
I believe (for right or wrong/good or bad) JP has set up this release perfectly for a future Broadway production. (Again I am not posting my personal opinion if they should or not).
It just makes sense.
Act 1 and Act 2
A complete story of an individual
A very good basis for a story
It has both Rock and widely accepted NON-rock elements (orchestra & symphony) that the masses would accept
It could be a final production for them (who knows?)
IT has been done before:
Mama Mia / Abba (which was very good BTW - and that's coming from a Heavy Metal fan) Moving out / Billy Joel (I did not see)
This could be done years from now, perhaps after they retire or even pass away.
Maybe they would do it in their retirement
Think about it.
BTW Mamma Mia! is now upto $2Billion world wide in gross revenue. That's right $2Billion from a foundation based on a music group.
Halford is a brialliant marketer.

Nostradamus is an amazing work of art. Who could have ever imagined so many musical effects and rich orchestral movements mixed with heavy metal guitars. I am completely blown away...it is a metal masterpiece- of epic proportions.
I think it would be awesome to make this album into a feature length film, not unlike Pink Floyd's "The Wall", but bigger and heavier!!

Thank you for explaining. Guess there is no point making a fuss about nothing. Peace, Painkiller.
As for not going to any of the shows, I don't know if I can take the time to go. And where is the nearest show? (whines)
I admit I can't draw a straight line. Perhaps during an earthquake. But I'd love to see some of the more talented draw or paint something inspired by the album - Hence the "challenge".
And I can picture in my mind the granite Metalgodess talks about. lol.
I, like yourself have managed to buy the album, but not find the time to hear it.
what I meant bymy coment was that I didnt see painkiller (damn those dots are annoying) calling people dumb, or saying that he was smarter than others. he did list a bunch of things that he thought might be qualities that would indicate the listener would not like the disk, but thats it.
how come you wont be going to any of the shows?
I do like the cover, but, my artistic skills are miniscule. I doubt I could do beter than metalicas self titled disk.

I appreciate you asking, btw.
I can only vouch for my own opinion, not that of others, respectfully, to all. Many longtime fans of the band think this latest effort to be ...meh.Sucker that I am, despite fearing Years Ago, that the Nostradamus theme would be a hard one to pull off even for Judas Priest - no - Because it is Judas Priest, I once again bought their newest album. When I get to listen to it, I will then give my straightforward opinion without choosing to call anybody dumb in the process.
I already made an opinion on the stage set, thank you whoever posted those wonderful picks from the show in Sweden (I think). I highly recommend going to see JP live regardless of their latest album. Once again I won't be going to any of their shows, you can rest easy.
From the songs I've heard at the Mtv website, I believe that certain band members could start listening to many of their fans requests to use the keyboards and synth sparingly and so far that is my major issue with the whole thing. Another is the album cover work (that could have had a genuine artist create something that looks less cheap and less obvious). For all the juicy parts I have no opinion as of yet.
How about a challenge?
Anybody out there with a talent for drawing/painting that wants to show how they could do a better album cover? (Quoting Message by Head banger from Wednesday, June 18, 2008 5:56:05 PM)

The rave reviews in the major music newsprint and websites are copied and pasted out of a single e-mail. Those "reviews" are nothing. Worthless. Serve only as ads to sell the album.

- have lost or never even found their faith in the old school heavy metal of Judas Priest and in general...
- keep comparing albums with each other...
- keep measuring the worth and status of an individual album by the "standards" set by some previous album(s)...
- don't appreciate the limitless possibilities of combining heavy metal with classical music...
...DON'T BOTHER. This album is way too majestic, powerful, multi-dimensional and generally too big for you to even start trying to digest.
I knew beforehand that this new concept would definitely divide people to those who understand, appreciate and enjoy this and to those who more or less loathe this and decry it's worth and excellence. This album is definitely a landmark in the history of Judas Priest and heavy metal - just as I thought it would be. Once again Judas Priest goes far and wide towards new, brave, intriguing and extremely demanding horizons of heavy metal and music in general. I would say that only Judas Priest have the vision, the ability, the strength and balls to make an album of this magnitude. No matter how powerful albums bands usually make, they seem to be just regular heavy metal - excellent and unique as they may be. This is not just old school heavy metal, this is Judas Priest going higher & beyond the boundaries of heavy metal traditions. This time Judas Priest made not just another brilliant heavy metal album in the long line of their discography but a true masterpiece, a work of beautiful, mind-exploding and career-crowning art.
I won't analyze the soundscape of this album too much or try to convince any slammers otherwise, because it's useless. The sounds of all insruments feel perfect, just as they are. The heavy guitar riffs & head-splitting leads, the smashing drums...100 % heavy metal!!! And I would also say that this album shows Rob Halford at his very best, this album demanded his best and he gave it his best. I think Rob Halford is a better overall vocalist than he ever was.
Is this the final album of Judas Priest as it has been rumoured? It may well be and I would not be amazed at all. Sad as it may be, I would accept it. The grandness, the power, the multi-dimensionality, the general finality of the concept and the message in the lyrics all suggest that this album could be the ultimate album of Judas Priest, their magnum opus. Time will tell.
In short: "Nostradamus" testifies that Judas Priest have always been and will always be the METAL GODS!!!

I'm so surprised with the new album. I'm a real fan of Judas Priest and I love many many songs but I think that this piece of work is just.... indescribable. They have been working a lot, spending so many hours chosing the best voices, sounds...and it's worth now. I don't know if it can be said that "Nostradamus" is their best album but if it is not, it is closer. They've made a great job and for that reason we have to support them going to the concerts and buying the CD. It has been a hair-raising experience, I love when Halford speaks in Italian, it is so operistic and touching.
Congratulations guys! I hope seeing you soon.
Vero.

First of all, people who...
- have an attitude problem against concept albums and conceptual art works in general...
- like to listen only simple, basic, guitars&drums heavy metal...
- have problems to concentrate on focused listening or any other activity that demands non-stop attention for a certain prolonged period of time...
- tend to listen music only as a background music while they do something else...
- don't appreciate classically influenced, flavored and executed music...
- don't appreciate orchestrations, classically arranged & anthemic vocal melodies...
- don't appreciate music made by using electronic keyboard and guitar synthesizers, electronic piano and B3 Hammond organ...

Mr/Mrs? Painkiller:
Knowing full well in advance that you will not reply to me directly, as is traditional in this website, I will still reply to your post since you think the vast majority of fans of the band don't have a brain to think with, eyes to see with and ears to hear with. I'm not judging the album in this reply. I believe it's you who judge others too harshly and in so doing make yourself and your opinion lose its value.
Sometimes, it's best to call a spade a spade and the candid opinion of many, to me, far outweighs the opinion of those like you who blame the listeners and find fault in their judgement.
The rave reviews in the major music newsprint and websites are copied and pasted out of a single e-mail. Those "reviews" are nothing. Worthless. Serve only as ads to sell the album.
If you like "Nostradamus", fine. You are the cleverest, the smartest, the smarmiest and the most psychologically superior being here because, out of countless thousands around the world, you - sir/madam - you "get it".
Whatever that may be.
I couldn't wait until the evening, I had to take the rest of the day off and unleash "Nostradamus" right away...I just finished my first session, so here's what I have in my mind right now...

Oh my God...few minutes ago the Deluxe 2CD edition came through my mail slot...
The package itself is like a bible of metal: a DVD package-sized, matte-surfaced hard-bound book, shining raised-relief band and album titles, CDs in cardboard sleeves, awesome painting-like pages with calligraphic text...absolutely fantastic!
The mere package demands complete focus and listening in a one sitting...
...and, with a sudden bang, I start to wonder that maybe this is not only, in a sense, the ultimate Judas Priest album but maybe this is also the last Judas Priest album. Who knows? Right now the magnitude of the album feels so overwhelming and final...
Tonight I will journey through time with Judas Priest the Metal Gods!!! Edited at: Wednesday, June 18, 2008 3:29:36 AM

The Priest has ritualed a monumental fresque to the prophet Nostradamus
Indeed, one could speak of destiny in the making as no one seems better heir to dedicate the cult epic...
Never have I seen as many contrasts and colours marry in such a pristine lyric blossom
Nostredame is avenged and will truly live forever

Definitely a departure from their previous work in terms of subject and style. I'm still struggling with accepting their extensive use of keyboards in this album but I'm not going to start nitpicking mistakes song by song since this is considered one piece, not several. A good review will follow that won't parrot all the others, be it positive or negative - whether you care to read it or not.
Now, I'm going to go back and listen to some old style blues. I love the sound of a guitar or two well played with feeling and true to itself.
Even if it's the lute - an instrument contemporary to Nostradamus. Renaissance and all that.

The title song, "Visions", "Dawn Of Creation/Prophecy" and "Death" have been my only acquaintances of the new album thus far (great old school metal songs, out at last!), but next week I'll get my copy of the 2CD Deluxe book edition, only then I will dive deep into the conceptual realm of Judas Priest's "Nostradamus" mega opus. The band themselves have emphasized the conceptual entirety of the album and I strongly believe this album will really come alive to it's full glory and power when listened to from the beginning to the end. Of course one can detach many separate songs and enjoy them, but in my mind the very best way to experience this album is to take it full-on as an entirety. That's the reason I haven't listened to these sample songs too much, I want the whole thing as the band offers & recommends it.
Some people may say that the album "is too long" or "there are too many intros" or "there are too many songs" etc. I say WHERE IS YOUR ABILITY TO FOCUS? Can't you listen a 2 disc album on a one take? Can't you listen 2 other Judas Priest albums in a row? Art is something to really put your mind within, especially a work like this. "Nostradamus" is not your choice for background music and it's not just another album, we're talking about a 2-part conceptual theatre show of heavy metal.
I believe this album will be one of the landmarks of heavy metal.
