If you don't plan of make a profit off the CD, I don't think it would infringe on copyright, and therefore you wouldn't need permission. I think. But I'm no lawyer.
Doesn't seem like it would be any different than your band releasing a video of you doing the cover song; You Tube is filled with those kind of videos.

 Hi!

I am new to the forum and a big longlife JP fan!

I want to ask something: I play in Metal band and we are planning to release a free-download EP.
That is, we don't aim to earn a penny with it, just to freely release it for Metal fans to enjoy.

We want to include a Judas Priest cover, out of loyalty and respect.
And I want to know if the band would allow us do that.

We don't want to infringe any copyright and we don't want to make a profit with this.
We just want to pay homage to the Best Metal Band on Earth.

Can anyone in this forum, maybe the Webmaster, point me in the right direction to ask for permission to the band?
