HA! "I am not a doctor but I saw one on TV!" Well, lucky you on that one. Went from "camping" to getting bracelets and coming back at dawn to stand in line to ONLINE. No matter. Still had to pay the "convenience fee." Awfully inconvenient if you ask me.

Yeah, Sabbath! You, me, Eddie Trunk, all on the Boneyard wondered why they just didn't call it a Sabbath tour. Saw it too. Hella show. Saw him last with Guitardude with Priest. RIP Dio.

Correction as I see it. They rolled around for Operation Rock N' Roll in SUMMER of '91, I believe. It was a back-to-back with the below that is clearly marked as a December show. The below would have been a warm "camp" with a cold show but nice as the Palace is where the Pistons (basketball) play so indoors. The '91 would have been the opposite. Outside venue in summer ampitheater where DF and I went to see Priest. Alice was the headliner. COLD "camp" would have been to get those tix.
[guidogodoy] Friday, April 07, 2017 7:37:03 PM
HA! Nice. Here I had to friggin' CAMP for mine! Hey, at least I was at the famed Detroit '90 Painkiller show. Yeah, the bootleg one that I am sure Nupe has seen if you haven't. Very popular video trade back in the day / now download. While known as "Painkiller in Detroit," it technically wasn't IN Detroit! It was in Auburn Hills. Damn cold night camping for these tix even though the show was in the summer. Certainly you remember "camping" for TicketBastard (or their CA equivalent)?

I remember you naming your #1 show before but remind me again...what was it?

still my second favorite concert of all time.  outstanding show, and got floor seats.  was some kind of ticketmaster screw up, my buddy bought them about 2 weeks after they went on sale.  we got there early some other guys showed up with the exact same tickets.  we compared tix, told them to go away and get someone to sort it out, never saw them again.

never noticed that scene. interesting. I got into that album, and bought the cassette back when the video for right to rock was on muchmusic (Canadian version of MTV)

Autograph also, same thing. I traded a def lep pyromania tour shirt for the autograph cassette. probably not my best move, but I didnt see that tour, was too young, it was a hand me down from an older relative
[Nupe The Ripper] Wednesday, April 05, 2017 12:06:30 PM
Forgot one album from my list: AC/DC's Fly on the Wall. Got it for cheap at a flea market some years ago.

I can't really explain why I've completely avoided buying Iron Maiden. Their music is alright (although not as good as Priest imo), but maybe it's because they're so popular that I hear enough of them anyway.

I found out about Keel when I watched Men In Black II and "Speed Demon" was played in one scene. Went on YouTube to check out the rest of the album and liked what I heard. It's a very glammy album (as could be expected from something produced by Gene Simmons) but a bit of glam every now and then balances out the more serious stuff in my collection. Speaking of glam, there's a couple of bands whose CDs I should buy to replace my current downloaded versions: the one-hit wonder Autograph (Turn Up the Radio) and Paganini (80s Swiss hard rock/glam metal, very interesting!).

Yup, understand. WILL get to a list. Promise. Still think that you are going to be splitting hairs with the list there, though. No Metallica. No Megadeth. Is Suicidal "Thrash Metal?" Again, we are speaking nomenclature here. Who won the "Best METAL album" of the year always brings up the "what defines what is and what is not "heavy metal" argument. Suicidal Tendencies would be my example. Albums I list are fucking METAL! Thrash? Hmmm....does having ex-Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo (now, see, I don't own a SINGLE Slayer album...LOVE him with Suicidal, though! Hell, I was just on stage with him and say that the concert should NOT be missed...although the World Gone Mad tour is now over....ha...read this? Ya missed it!) beating the skins make them Thrash? They were inducted into the SKATEBOARD hall of Fame, FFS! Many classified them as a punk band! Their spin-off is the Infectious Grooves with Mike Muir, Robert Trujillo and Jane's Addiction Steve Perkins on drums. It was called "Funk Metal." That count? Good tunes. Trujillo make them thrash and Muir put them back into punk? Tough call there. Some really good tunes, though. Who wins X award for best "heavy metal" album / Grammy / Rolling Stone / Revolver / What-Have-You award always brings up this argument. Last Accept album was a KILLER! I love it. Last Megadeth album. Likewise! They win the Grammy...and they idiots play a Metallica song. Clueless.

Moral? Listen to more Suicidal Tendencies! HAAAA!!!! ICED EARTH ("The Dark Saga?" Puleeeze... "Something Wicked This Way Comes"!!!!!! WARLOCK!!!! Helloween! Metal Church, DeathDealer, Motorhead, Transmetal, Overkill, Luzbel. <==damn, off the top of my head, I got a pretty good list going already!

If I see an album I'll listen to it....It's cool sometimes to listen to something you dont have in your collection your not familiar with ect... And no King Diamond shouldn't be in your collection lol. We all cant have the same stuff....no need for a list though, gave me a chance to see if I was missing anything I hadn't thought of...

Oh, I know what you meant and I AM speaking about actual CDs. Like Nupe, if we are talking bootlegs, it would be larger but, honestly, I get boots of the bands I support by actually buying their albums. As most know, the convos here go on "underground" quite often and it was via PM that I mentioned that I believe that I have only actually downloaded a couple of songs only because I was making a mix for someone and didn't own the song (Anthrax - "Got the Time" for a kid who was into bass as I don't own a SINGLE Anthrax album...does owning the Public Enemy WITH Anthrax version of "Bring the Noise" count? LOL as I am not a fan of Anthrax. SEEN 'em many a time only because I had to as they were warming up for someone else I wanted to see; "Dawgs Bull" by Dave Grisman on mandolin" and the entire album of "Strummin' for the Devil" which is an outstanding version of Van Halen songs done on mandolin, banjo, guitar, etc that I burned to CD). ALL others are first on LP, then cassette then CD and, often, the trifecta of all THREE such as Crue "Shout at the Devil" and, the full house of those that are the trifecta and then the special editions and re-releases / edited versions such as...drumroll...PRIEST!! Those would include picture discs too. I'd throw Iced Earth into that mix. I'd throw EARLY Maiden into that mix. "Number of the Beast." I own the cassette, LP, CD and picture disc (LP framed). In hindsight? What would be higher than the "full house" I describe when you have to have every version (within reason) of recordings such as Priest releases where all four plus special editions / framed gold records given to old record studeios are thrown into the mix as well? OCD? HAAAA!

Yeah, after my initial post? I know I took the easy way out. I'll see if I can add more to my list than jsut a handful of foreign artists but, seriously, it is easy to look at your list and Nupes and say what I DON'T have! LOL! Honestly? I am Probably closer to Nupe's list than yours. You KNOW my thoughts about Screechy Clown, for example! HA! So, no Mercyful Fate although I still have that King Diamond promo I posted way back when still in my closet. No Pentagram, No Manilla Road, Cirith Ungol, Exciter, Grave Digger, Virgen Steele, What...ONLY first Queensryche for YOU??? No Operation Mindcrime?? No Empire or prior? No Candlemass, Bling Guardian, ARP, Gamma Ray, WHAT...THAT IS your only Iced Earth?!?, No Iron Savior, Hammerfall, Ghost.

That said? Yeah, still not MY list but what is left is a start! Getting late tonight with work to do = ain't gonna get to it anytime soon but an interesting topic. I'll get to throwing some names together. With what remains from what I culled out of yours adding STAPLES to me like Suicidal, WASP, Iced Earth, even Scatterbrain (damn good album / damn good artists! "Drunken Milkman" whatta tune! HA! "I'm not going down with the ship" is a masterpiece of guitar licks they piece together. MUST be heard...) + foreign bands are a good start for me.

ps. add Doro and Warlock (hit me when I think "download bootleg concerts") and JOHN 5 all store-bought LPs / CD / cassettes (Warlock and Doro) to my list!!!

@guido... actually list all your "heavy metal" bands you have on cd not burned onto a cd... Megadeth would be under thrash,or heavy metal thrash...same as Metallica.

Doom metal like Sabbath,Pentagram is close enough...just no bands with any thrash influences

I listed Ghost because they have a 1% pinch of heavy metal in thier music, mostly rock but still SOME heavy metal.Although I don't have any Scorpions, I'd say same thing would be like listing the Scorpions...very little heavy metal, mostly rock but still....  forget all other genres, just list heavy metal ones.

No pure rock bands without any heavy metal in thier music.

You don't have to list any album titles,I just did for the hell of it.But Im interested in what you have.

Yeah Ghost shouldn't be on anyone's list here but mine lol.  Wasp? I dont have any Wasp but they ARE/were heavy metal. List em' I want a list, even if you only have 1 album by them( vinyl or cd)    Heres mine again:

Black Sabbath
Judas Priest
Halford
Iron Maiden
Bruce Dickinson
Saxon ( Dogs Of War to Battering Ram)
Accept (Restless And Wild,Balls To The Wall)

Was gonna say...it would be easier for me to say what I DON'T have when looking at your lists. Top-notch, to be sure, as I have the majority + albums. I'd certainly be walking the line on a bunch of my own if I had to say which falls under what moniker. I've been on quite the Suicidal Tendencies kick lately and see that neither of you have them on your lists. Downloads (that I cannot do with albums...only bootlegs) or importing track names for "How Will I Laugh..." and "Lights, Camera, Revolution..." two staples of ST are METAL to me but they import as PUNK?! Nope. Thrash? Ummmm... we are splitting hairs here. It is damn METAL! Feel the same about modern Metallica as JD. SUCK ASS!!! Hardest member is who? Robert Trujillo...from ST!!! CURRENT drummer for ST is who? Lombardo from SLAYER! Fuckin' AWESOME show I just saw! STILL on cloud 9!

Certainly, Keel would be a band that would have been on a "not on my list" band whereas I have a ton of foreign bands like Trust, Rata Blanca, Angeles del Infierno , Raimundos (are THEY punk?...named after and cover The Ramones?). Would have to add Ghost to the list of those that I DON'T have but where is more love for W.A.S.P.?! Blackie? Headless Children? Masterpiece that is "The Crimson Idol?" Deep Purple would go the opposite. As THEY are supposedly wrapping up with the tour with Alice this year and I have albums that were mellow from the beginning to mellow at the end...where do they fall? On some, they had a decent tune or two. Granted, no smash hits but some I absolutely adore. Can anyone name a tune off of "The Battle Rages On?" "Slave and Masters?" One could argue the same with Brian Johnson, his solo work and even Gordie. I have a bunch of those albums. Clearly more rock than metal there. DP are almost ballads! LOL! Metallica / like Maiden...I TRY, damnit! YES, I own some. Just can't... Like HB said. Just don't like it. Megadeth's latest, though? Love it! ACCEPTS latest? Love it!

Beauty / metal is in the eye of the beholder! Still....Priest rules! LOL!

I hate to categorize music, I have 2 categories, I like, and I dont like
Nupe, you are the first person I have seen with Keel on a list besides myself. Nice lists both of you
[J.D. DIAMOND] Monday, April 03, 2017 10:43:13 PM
very cool Nupe... and wow no Iron Maiden on your list,no worries lol just different. I love old Maiden 1980 - 1984 ... I actually don't have any old Saxon cds, although I do like songs from 1979's Saxon debut album through 1984 Crusader album,I own (2003) Heavy Metal Thunder cd an album of re-recorded gems from those albums. The Saxon studio albums/cds I own are (1995) Dogs Of War up to thier currant album Battering Ram. The last 22 years of the band to me is excellent, but I can see why you like the old Saxon. Very cool.

Yeah I also have rock albums too but only 3 bands... Kiss, Rainbow (with Dio) & Motorhead.

Heavy Metal thrash albums I have are minimal too... No "Metallica" as I used to like them very much
throughout the 80's but ouch...It's just a sore subject to me I hate them so much lol. I used to have thier first 3 lps when I was a kid(in the 80's)... but the ones I do have are

Agent Steel -"Skeptics Apocalypse" album only(1985)
Hallow's Eve - first 3 albums ('85 - '88)
Leige Lord -Master Control album only('88)

Death Metal very minimal too-

Onslaught - Power From Hell 1985 ( I bough this lp in 1985 when it was new,it was death metal!)
Morbid Angel - Altars Of Madness, Blessed Are The Sick,Covanant,F.F.T.T.F. albums only
Deicide first 3 lps only
Krisiun - Conquerers Of Armageddon,The Great Execution lps only

Black metal album collection is large, but ELITE!

Hammerfall releases thier 9th studio album titled
(r)Evolution   and is utterly excellent!

11 tracks (plus one bonus track Demonized thats cool)...only one bad track #10 "Evil Incarnate" but the rest is awsome. HF's 4th best album too with Glory To The Brave,Legacy Of Kings and Crimson Thunder beings the band's best top 3 LPs.

Excellent traditional british styled heavy metal's attitude with thier original Swedish styled traditional HM sound,Hammerfall's song writting is supurb.  Highly recommened to Judas Priest fans.

Newsbites: Downing to tour with Tate?

www.classicrockmagazine.com/news/queensryche-kk-downing-to-tour-with-geoff-tate/

Queensryche
singer Geoff Tate has suggested
retired Judas Priest guitarist KK Downing, who guested on recent album Frequency Unknown, could be joining his band for a brief stint later this year. Tate says: “I like working with different people, and I don’t ever want to be in a band again – a band that sticks together through thick and thin and all that. I want to constantly be changing it up to make it  interesting and different. I want to play with as many great players as I possibly can – because I can. I can call up KK Downing and say, ‘Ken, you’ve got time, two weeks in November, to play a short tour?’ I can do that; and why not?” [Metal Kaoz]

JUDAS PRIEST's ROB HALFORD Says New Album Should Be Completed By End Of Year - May 29, 2013
In 2011, British heavy metal legends JUDAS PRIEST embarked on the "Epitaph" tour, their final massive world trek ever, but that doesn't mean the band is hanging it up. In fact, they're working on new music and singer Rob Halford told VH1 Radio Network's Dave Basner what to expect from it.

"We have all the songs in our heads running right now as we're speaking to you, we can hear them," he said.

"It's coming along really well."

He continued: "We're in no rush. It'll be ready when it's ready. What we will say is we felt it was very important to follow up 'Nostradamus', the last release, and that was a concept experiment and it was a real success for us and the fans loved it, but I think our fans and ourselves as a band, we want to get back to the side of PRIEST that we haven't heard for a few years and reemphasize and remake those big, heavy metal statements again."

As for when fans can expect to get the new PRIEST album, Halford explained that he and his bandmates aren't going to set dates for themselves.

"I think that's the best way to approach it, because it would be wrong to say, 'On this date, at this moment, the record is coming out.' But where we're at now, we're very, very confident and, going out on a limb, I would say that we should have it wrapped up by the end of this year. We're forging ahead and everything's looking good, and yeah, it's looking right. So in the not-too-distant metal future, there will be new PRIEST to listen to."

Ho ho! I couldn't believe this when I heard it on the news last night:
www.globalpost.com/dispatches/globalpost-blogs/weird-wide-web/sweden-heavy-metal-music-addiction-disability-benefits

Too funny! I want to apply for disability too! This guy has seen some 300 concerts last year in a 365 day / year calendar?!? I need help too!! I haven't been able to concentrate on work because I have seen far fewer! Obama, help me!!!

Swedish man gets disability benefits for heavy metal "addiction"

In Sweden, a headbanger has succeeded in having his heavy metal music obsession declared an addiction that requires state disability benefits.

Roger Tullgren, 42, a heavily tattooed metal head who works as a dishwasher in southern Sweden, said he consulted three psychologists to receive statements testifying to the extent of his heavy metal music dependency, reports the Local, a Swedish news website.

“I have been trying for 10 years to get this classified as a handicap,” he told the Local.

"I spoke to three psychologists and they finally agreed that I needed this to avoid being discriminated against."

(More Sweden news from GlobalPost: No "boys" or "girls" at gender-neutral preschool in Sweden)

Tullgren, who is described as having long black hair, tattoos and a collection of skull and crossbones jewelry, said his heavy metal addiction caused him to attend nearly 300 concerts last year that left him unable to hold down a job, and forced to go on welfare.

His new part-time job as a dishwasher at a restaurant in the city of Hassleholm will be supplemented by disability benefits.

"I signed a form saying: 'Roger feels compelled to show his heavy metal style. This puts him in a difficult situation on the labor market. Therefore he needs extra financial help'. So now I can turn up at a job interview dressed in my normal clothes and just hand the interviewers this piece of paper," Tullgren said.

Tullgren’s new boss has agreed to give him time off to see concerts, and lets him dress how he wants and play heavy metal music while washing dishes, provided it is not too loud when there are guests at the restaurant.

Tullgren said he got hooked on heavy metal at age 2 when his older brother came home with a Black Sabbath album.

The Toronto Globe and Mail newspaper notes that while addiction treatment usually involves helping addicts to kick the habit, “in uber-liberal Sweden, the state could be accused of ‘enabling’ Mr. Tullgren’s addiction by accommodating his heavy metal lifestyle.”

JUDAS PRIEST 'Might' Release New Album Early Next Year - July 11, 2012
Peter Hodgson of Gibson.com recently conducted an interview with guitarist Richie Faulkner of British heavy metal legends JUDAS PRIEST. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Gibson.com: You've been in JUDAS PRIEST for over a year now and the fans seem to have welcomed you with open arms. How does that feel? Were you worried about how you'd be accepted?

Richie: I think that any big change in such a legendary band is going to bring a certain amount of skepticism and when people don't know the outcome, we tend to fear the worst. The band and me were sure that when the fans came to see us live, all fears would be put to bed. It astonishes, really, how the fans have welcomed me into the family and I feel honored to be accepted in the way that I have been. The great thing is, even though the fans didn't know how it was gonna be at first, they still believed in the band, got their tickets and came to see the show. When the opening song kicked in, all politics and uncertainty seemed to be blown out the door and everyone was just part of a huge family, ya know? Hats off to the fans for that and a massive thank you.

Gibson.com: How much lead-up did you have between getting the PRIEST gig and stepping on stage with them?

Richie: It was about a month before rehearsals started for the "Epitaph" tour that I got the gig. We rehearsed for two weeks and then flew out to L.A. to play on the finale of "American Idol". So my first show with the band was in front of nearly 30 million people! No pressure then guys, eh?! We then flew back to England again to continue rehearsing, so I think it was about two months in total before we played the first show of the "Epitaph" tour.

Gibson.com: Are you writing new material with PRIEST? And are you able to fit in your own musical pursuits at the moment?

Richie: We are working on a new album. Glenn [Tipton, guitar] and Rob [Halford, vocals] started writing material early 2011 before I joined the band, and I got together with them earlier this year to work on some more tracks with them. We're getting together again after the summer to do some more writing and if all goes to plan, we might have the album out early next year. The ideas we have so far are sounding very strong and very PRIEST, so watch this space!

Wow,Saxon's  last album "Call To Arms" was released June 3rd,2011...8 months ago and now the band is in the studio working on a new album already! This new Saxon album (Saxon's 20th studio album) will most likely be released before the new Judas Priest album is out.  Priest has wasted the last part of thier career on touring grabbing cash and left us starving for "metal".  This is what pisses me off.....Rob comes back in 2004 ....8 years ago and alls we have really is Retribution and that was 7 years ago?  They have really left us metal heads starving and I think the band fucked up by doing this.

BLACK SABBATH Guitarist TONY IOMMI Diagnosed With Lymphoma - Jan. 9, 2012
Legendary BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi has been diagnosed with the early stages of lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphocytes, a type of cell that forms part of the immune system.

Iommi, 63, is currently working with his doctors to establish the best treatment plan and remains upbeat and determined to make a full and successful recovery.

This comes as BLACK SABBATHOzzy Osbourne (vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar), Geezer Butler (bass) and Bill Ward (drums) — are writing and recording their first album in 33 years in Los Angeles (still set for release this fall) with producer Rick Rubin. They will now go to the U.K. to continue to work with Tony.

Iommi's BLACK SABBATH and HEAVEN & HELL bandmate, legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio, died of stomach cancer on May 16, 2010 at the age of 67.

In a June 2010 interview, Iommi stated about his former bandmate, "I was talking to Ronnie [a few days before he died], and he said, 'I've gotta have this new chemo, but I think it's working.' And that was the real big shock of it, because within a week of that, he had passed away. So it was a big shock for all of us, because we built ourselves up to [have him beat the disease] and, of course, we didn't expect to lose."

According to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, lymphoma is the name for many different types of cancer that arise in the lymphocytes (immune cells). Treatment might involve chemotherapy and in some cases radiotherapy and/or bone marrow transplantation, and can be curable depending on the histology, type, and stage of the disease.

There are three types of lymphocytes: B lymphocytes (B cells), T lymphocytes (T cells) and natural killer (NK) cells. B lymphocytes make antibodies to fight infection; T lymphocytes have many functions, including helping B lymphocytes make the antibodies that fight infection; and natural killer cells attack cancer cells and viruses. Lymphoma may arise in any of these types of lymphocytes. In general, B-cell lymphomas are more common than T-cell lymphomas; however, in the skin, T-cell lymphomas are the most common type.

About 20 percent of the white cells in the blood are lymphocytes. Most lymphocytes are found in the lymphatic system, the major part of the body's immune system. The lymphatic system consists of a network of organs, including the spleen, the lymph nodes (small bean-shaped structures located throughout the body), the lymphatic vessels and areas in the gastrointestinal tract.

Lymphoma is divided into two major categories: Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). Cutaneous T-cell lymphomas (CTCLs), cancers of the T lymphocytes, constitute a rare group of NHLs that arise primarily in the skin and have various signs and symptoms, outcomes and treatment considerations.

Yeah, I noticed that omission right away. Nary a word about KK! Really struck me as odd too.

I don't know what to think of it. Intentional? Who knows. I just wouldn't think that Revolver simply "forgot." Like most print interviews, I would all but guarantee that they were recording Rob's every word. Like you said, they clarify when he said "Glenn" and "Dave Murray" [OF MAIDEN]. Not likely that Revolver misquoted.

Did you notice when Rob was discussing guitar players he mentions Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix,
Eddie Van Halen, and then Dime. then he mentions Glenn Tipton and then Adrian Smith and Dave Murray
of Maiden. He goes on to say that they were all very influential but I'm not noticing any mention of K.K. Downing.
Do you think Revolver forgot to print something or Rob just forgot to mention him or do you think maybe this
could be the reason K.K. left Priest. K.K. hinted at internal problems but said he would never tell the reasons to
anyone. Maybe he and Rob just hate each other and that's why K.K. is gone. Just food for thought. I have no clue.
