| I was never a fan of this song & would (gasp) skip over it. It has since become one of my most played songs on Nostradamus and I just love it. Yes it does sound like Black Sabbath, but this is JP playing and Rob singing, therefore I love it more. Lots of atmosphere in both songs & tremendously doomy & gloomy. Rob just sounds very maniacal when he ends his verses with the crazy mental screams! He delivers it bang on. |

LMFAO I'm starting to feel confused about my opinion about which is the better song I must say though, they're both amazing songs

Haha, I believe I eat my words I should have taken a good thorough listen to both songs before posting. I agree as well, that Black Sabbath is a more amazing song, I guess I was just trying to say that Death is such an amazing song to hear live, the intensity and the enormous wall of sound it has behind it.

Death is an amazing song too though. Black Sabbath is always gonna top it. Nothing can touch the original Sabbath on stage, not even Priest in my opinion. There's just something there that can't be beaten. If or When Ozzy goes back to playing with Sabbath, go see them, I wish I could. But seriously though, if there mind blowing on TV, you can bet it's gonna be way better live. |

Got to agree with you there Joe, Death is good but Black Sabbath is epic and classic, one of the best and most influential songs in metal.

It's a pity that unlike Judas Priest, Black Sabbath couldn't make an album beyond the 70s in their definitive lineup. Seeing what Judas Priest can do nowadays, I think Black Sabbath would do just as well as they can.

Having listened to Death for quite a while now, I can't help but realise this song is a lot like the song "Black Sabbath". It has that evil intro...in this case the bells and the humming. It also has those beckoning calling verses, especially with the end of each verse how Rob's voice ends in a scream. It has an amazing guitar solo towards the end of the song too, as well as constant ringing bells adding to its doomy feel. I have to say that I find Death the far more enjoyable tune to listen to...especially live. Its guitars are razor sharp and searing, the drumming is more technical especially the double bass during the solo, Rob's screams are inhumanly awesome, his rasp during the Messenger Of Death chorus is razor sharp and his manic chorus about Death riding out from the storm are so emotionally subjective they are bone chilling. Interestingly, back in 2004 when Rob sang Black Sabbath with Black Sabbath, he introduced it as "the most evil song ever written". Four years later here we are with something even more evil and more bone chilling to top it. Well done Judas Priest
