Yeah I don't don't like the producion quality on AOR either, Scott Travis sounds like a drum machine on some tracks. Bring back the sound of the 80's and early 90's. [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by icecreamman from Sunday, August 14, 2011 8:42:36 PM)

HA! I thought he would! The only thing that prevents AOR from being higher up on the list is Roy Z's flat production. If it was an Allom produced album, well who knows. Hell Bent for Leather is so low becuase of the filler and becuase it has a great drop off of quality from its predecessor.

Those 4 albums bother me.Jugulator is the best out of all 4 but I hate Ripper Owens's voice so it ruins it for me. Priest has been my #1 favorite band since 1981 so yeah I envy you. Interesting list, however Painkiller under Retribution I think Hellrider could bust a spring lose if he sees it ha!

Just came in from mowing the lawn and, as is the norm, had Priest on in my ears the whole time. Listened to all of Defenders and, while I did remember this convo about the drum machine during Heavy Duty (lol...ONLY then), I was actually gonna ask how many besides me typically stop The Sentinel to listen to the guitar solos at least twice before letting the song finish out? I mean, I can't be the ONLY one!
Just can't help myself. I have to stop the riding mower, take out and shuffle the iPod back a bit but, despite the hassle, almost invariably do. Maybe next time I'll listen to the drums. The production value as well.

I agree,I like the production of Angel Of Retribution yet its not as open-clear/clean as Painkiller but these kinds of things are just irrelevant to me. Its like if the Turbo album were "re-recorded" with the world's best production ever heard on an album, its not going to change shit for me ya know....its like if ohhh its re-recorded in the same way the production was recorded on Painkiller so now I actually will like Parental Guidance? lol! Its a joke Head Banger.

I think the drums on Defenders sounds like a drum machine and to this day I belive that Dave Holland never played drums on the album at all but rather played during the Defender's tour instead, they just sound so fake to me.
Scotts drums on Retribution smoke the Defenders album by far,yet I rate Defenders at #5 all time and Retribution at #6. If they would of written a track like Demonizer in place of Lochness then I would of switched the two in my rankings. Just my look on it but I get what your saying.

I agree with the drum sound on Defenders,i am sure it is a drum machine too!
Actually inside the remastered cd the notes on it mention "One bizzare memory was a mechanical drum machine we tried to use on one track...etc etc."
LOFL,try all the tracks!
That is too bad cause that album would of sounded awesome had it been a real drummer!
The drums is the only thing that i don't like about that album!

Turbo is commercial, yes, but it's actually quite original, something like progressive glam rock. And it being "of its time" is not a bad thing, it gives the album flavor. AOR is sanitized.

There is an article I need to find I read a while back that Rob had even said that looking back he thought while the Turbo album had a few good tracks it was a disappointment to thier fans and he said at least a majority of the long time fans and how anything less than better on the album would of been a disappointment to himself and the band too.

This album is by far Judas Priest's worst and it is so unPriest-like,even nostradamus sounds more Priest than this. None the less I was sickened by watching the video and lucky enough we left in 20 minutes lol! I suppose Angel Of Retribution sickens you in this same way,I get that but at least they didn't look like a bunch of lame trendy pretty boy big hair wanker posers on the Retribution tour! lol!

Turbo is anything but a good rockin album like "ZZ TOP". It reeks of over-commercialism and over produced. Locked In,Private Property,Parental Guidance don't have much energy to me as they have a keeping up with the jones' sound in 1986.ZZ TOP has never released anything this ridiculous. Judas Rising,Demonizer,Wheels Of Fire stop the shit out of these pussy songs.

Hellrider,I see you've listed Turbo over Screaming For Vengeance, Ram It Down and Angel Of Retribution....set aside the Screaming For Vengeance and Angel of Retribution albums know I've see you post Hard As Iron clips as well as Heavy Metal,Ram It Down tracks but I don't recall you ever posting anything from "Turbo".
So just what is it about the Turbo album you like so much better than Ram It Down, the stage cloths or the songs? Locked In,Private Property,Parental Guidance,Hot For Love you prefer over The Hellion/Electric Eye,Riding On The Wind,Bloodstone,Ram It Down and Heavy Metal? That just doesn't seem like you,is this your soft side?

Well "you" can put it on and "enjoy every time" but in 1986 I took that album and smashed it between my legs then chucked it out my window. Later I had to pick up the pieces in my back yard and that wasn't pleasant either. I hate the album just as much today as I did when i first heard it and I like posting how I hate the album.
There is an article I need to find I read a while back that Rob had even said that looking back he thought while the Turbo album had a few good tracks it was a disappointment to thier fans and he said at least a majority of the long time fans and how anything less than better on the album would of been a disappointment to himself and the band too.
which is another wording for how much Rob actually thinks it "is" a disappointment. I highly doubt he thinks this way of the Retribution album, not trying to change your opinion, just that mine sides in with Robs haha.

Turbo is commercial, yes, but it's actually quite original, something like progressive glam rock. And it being "of its time" is not a bad thing, it gives the album flavor. AOR is sanitized.
