Hard as Iron /Sharp as British Steel

I have to say British Steel.  As much as I LOVE SFV, I think some of that comes from having to wait 3 years in between (the POE era).  After POE (which I truly like, just not on the heavy side that SFV is), Screamn' came at me pretty good, but NOT the way British Steel did.  That album came from out of nowhere and knocked me on my ass.  The secret on Priest was out by SFV (their new style), and as good as it is, it didn't it didn't blow me away like British Steel did.

"Screaming for Vengeance." I like the dark vibe of "British Steel" but, y'know... "The Hellion", "Electric Eye" and "Riding on the Wind" one after the other?! Wow! Blows my mind!!! Not to mention the rest of the album. "Bloodstone" is pure class. "You've Got Another Thing Coming" and "Devil's Child" are also favorites of mine.

British Steel...although SFV is damn good - but when British Steel came out there was nothing else out there that was even close to it's sound - it redefined what heavy metal was and what it could be - British Steel made every other album out at the time sound lame in comparison.

As much as I love "Screaming," what a perfect album, and the "gateway drug" that got me into Priest to begin with.....

My favorite Judas Priest albums are Stained Class tied with British Steel.  I love Stained Class for the musical style, because if you listen to the album, really sit down and listen to it, there are guitar riffs and vocals which Priest never explored before or since, so Stained Class is my fave for uniqueness.  But since this is a British Steel vs. Screaming thread, here's my vote:  For sheer intensity I have to go with British Steel.  It is such a driving, straightforward, grab-ya-by-the-balls-and-don't-let-go album from start to finish, and so ahead of its time in 1980.  To quote Glenn:  "I'm not saying we invented thrash, we didn't, but we did take metal into those faster tempos."  British Steel is just legendary to me.  Priest at top form.

BRITISH STEEL!!!

9 excellent tracks, and not one duff moment.

As for SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE:

(Take These) Chains - lets the side down, I'm afraid.
