Imagine being 12 yrs. old and the radio waves are full of (ALL great bands) Cheap Trick, Aerosmith, Styx, Foreigner, Bad Company, Thin Lizzy, Led Zepplin and so on.

Then you hear Burnin' Up, Delivering The Goods, Hell Bent For Leather, and The Green Manalishi.

I had never heard anything like that before.

At 12 years old I found my musical calling by way of Judas Priest!!!

EVERY Metal band that I know of, including Iron Maiden, have traveled down roads that Priest paved!!!

That's NOT to say that there aren't other great metal bands other than Priest. Just that Priest have 'done' what other bands 'do'.  And they did/do it BETTER than anyone else.

LONG LIVE PRIEST...THE GREATEST METAL BAND EVER!!!

Judas Priest without a doubt --they take risks with all their albums/cds that you just don't know what to expect when you buy them --the most powerful show I've ever seen.--Iron Maiden/ Metallica are a close second but my heart, body & soul belong to the Priest !!

Saxon are a great band too. One thing they differ from Judas Priest, Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden....they were just about the only classic heavy metal band which steamrolled full power through 1995. Black Sabbath delivered a disappointing album, as did Iron Maiden, and 'Priest weren't intact. Saxon on the other hand released Dogs Of War and coming to the forefront once again since Solid Ball Of Rock. Motorhead were an exception too, with Sacrifice which IMO is the best work they've done.

I don't think you can have a "greatest metal band ever." I think you have to limit it to periods. Black Sabbath was the greatest metal band up until about 1975 (I consider Led Zepelin to be hard rock). I think Priest was the greatest metal band from 1978-1984. Maybe Metallica from 85-90? Maiden is certainly very close, only a hair away.

I just don't see how the Priest albums from Stained Class through Defenders of the Faith can be beaten.

Pretty difficult but I think it's Iron Maiden.

To me,Priest is a much more powerful band! Maiden are more intricate on some material but don`t have that over the top power that Priest does. They are both amazing story tellers that never bore me. the more I listen to either band, the more small things I pick out in the music. ...fanatastic!
But I pick our beloved Judas Priest  as the top metal band!!

True, spapad, but if you could see, a lot of metal fans, rightfully so, like Iron Maiden the same as they like Judas Priest.

To me, it just cannot be. It is either Priest or Maiden. Never both. Sadly, the world knows more about Maiden than Priest.

So, I would say this is a good thread. :)

Why is this thread here? If your here, you probably already think Judas Priest is the greatest Metal Band Ever!

Judas Priest without a doubt.

They symbolize the genre and what it stands for.

They were the pioneers of the looks, the hooks, and the riffs that have come to become associated with heavy metal.

Most important of all, they are unabashedly metal for the sake of metal.

For those who think heavy metal is a passing teenage phenomenon, well 'You've got another thing comin''!

Even when we get married and have kids and grand kids, we will still be rocking hard, pumping our fists in the air, walking with a spring in our steps as we listen to our most beloved band of all time, Judas Priest!

Thank the Metal Gods for giving me the opportunity to discover Judas freakin' Priest in my lifetime.

I'll never grow over it, time and responsibilities will not douse the fire these guys have lit in me.

Together with Priest, we will rock on forever. All hail the Metallian!

By the way, Metallica will be second best choice. They brought back the grittiness to metal when it seemed to be sufferring under the hands of hair metal bands. When they came out with Master of Puppets, the world didn't know what just hit them. I would never categorize them as old Metallica or new Metallica. They will always be the same Metallica to me, those sobs who hit you in the face and then some with their brand of music.

As far as Heavy Metal goes Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, and old Metallica are the ones to take the crown.
However, no other band can compare to the talent and sense of the music and genra like K.K. and Tipton and Smith and Murray. They have the formula, and the skills that are unmatched by any other in the bis. Dave Mustane is just a genious aswell, the diversity and creative skills are hands down top notch. What I have to say about Dave is...when started to suck, ie; Risk, he cleaned house and came back better than before. The Priest, Maiden duo I can't even say enough  about them. Metallica had it, but they let the drumming midget (Lars) have creative say and i think that F$#@&ed them up some... Lets see what they come out with next! Anyway, to me these are the bands the set the standards, and to this day are still rocking my eardrums to hell and back.
