I guess you could say that listening to Judas Priest is what turned me on to listening to Iron Maiden. So Priest still comes first. But Maiden is somewhere down the charts for me. They're good - just not "Priest" good.
[Lessy] Saturday, June 27, 2009 7:33:42 PM
Great who made two same topics? Fine I post it again here maybe somebody read it At first I ♥ them both...I just explain why is for me Judas Priest in higher position. My first heavy metal band was Iron Maiden I still like maidens sounds, riffs, originally hypnotic melodies but the original HEAVY METAL is made by Judas Priest!!!...you know what I mean...finally I find what I need all years before, thanx to Metal Gods. Some of the Maiden albums it seems as one and the same, in Priest discography you can find more different albums, I can compare this albums for example: Turbo - Painkiller, Rocka Rolla - British Steel, Point of Entry - Nostradamus...I can do it with all discography, they dont copy their sound, practices again. Ive never heard best voice in metal world as the voice of Rob Halford, I love guitarist twins Glenn and K.K. and with Ian and Scott is JUDAS PRIEST INVINCIBLE HEAVY METAL BAND IN THE WORLD...so this is my opinion. JP over Ironmaiden for sure. Mainly for me JP has a larger library of songs that I love. Rob is second to no one as far as vocals, but as far as musicianship...boy thats a tough one.

1.Rob is better than Bruce
2.KK. and Glenn are much better than maidens
3.Scott is better 2

Judas Priest capture i think the essence of metal...The voice of Mr. Rob Halford is the most powerful of all...

Priest easily for me (always) but the early tours were Priest with Maiden (Dianno) 81 Killers were awesome. Here's S Harris at Radio City 87. Notice the billboard with QR. MpleSyrp
[merperma] Thursday, April 30, 2009 9:48:10 PM

These two metal legends should NEVER be compared against each other, both have their own unique style:
its obvious Iron Maiden is capable of making a great variety of albums with their own themes, like : the Number of the beast, Powerslave, A Matter of Life and Death,
And its the same with Judas Priest: Painkiller, Killing Machine, Nostradamus, British Steel
Bottom line: Both rock like no other band in history!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[JP83] Thursday, April 30, 2009 8:05:55 PM
  1. We should never compare Priest and Maiden.  They're both great!!!!  I loved it when they toured together!!!!!
[HVYMTL] Thursday, April 30, 2009 4:08:35 PM
Going to DTE and Cleveland (where the Priest should be forever!)
Maybe we can start a "Hall of fame" chant.
any one else going?

Mr. Smith is very HOT!!!
[HOT ROCKIN' METAL GODDESS] Wednesday, April 29, 2009 12:31:51 AM
EXACTLY how I feel! I also get bored during the 5 minute solos they do in a lot of their songs.  I NEVER get bored listening to Priest though! The Number of the Beast album will always be a favorite though - I can listen to that over and over again!
Another fan from Michigan - SWEEEET! Going to the DTE show?

The answer for me, is that I can listen to any Priest music on my Ipod all day, but can listen only to a top ten of Maiden .
[HOT ROCKIN' METAL GODDESS] Tuesday, April 28, 2009 11:49:24 AM

I've been having this debate with my brother for 25 years.... It will ALWAYS be Priest for me! No other band makes me as happy as Priest does. Even on my worst day, listening to them puts a smile on my face

 PRIEST RULES!

[harriett1] Tuesday, April 21, 2009 8:38:40 AM

Priest. Been listining to iron maiden since i was very young as well. Glad to see they both play the Fender strats! (and many other gorgeous guitars i'd very much like to have myself). But Yeah Judas Priest.

mmmmmm..........HATE THIS QUESTION!....hahahaha.....love them both.....but i`ll go for Maiden first....maybe because i love the band members attitude on stage way more than Priest`s one....though they have an AMAZING! show...i rather the colorfull killer concerts Maiden can give us.....for the rest, i think i`ll cut my right arm for Judas and Maiden`s songs....they are absolutely brilliant with music, lyrics, and they both put a lots of SOUL on it....you can tell when you hear them.....

Priest has definately been around longer, Maiden tours more.
Either or, both kick ass!
Had both bands posters up in my teenage room 30 years ago. (along with Venom and Slayer)
Both are a hell of a lot better than any hair bands (or any other band!)
although Maiden did have some sucky years, Priest always kept it up!

[TinaBean] Saturday, March 28, 2009 9:42:48 PM
I have seen this topic on many rock sites.  I have to say that I love both of them.  Each has its own specific sound so I cannot see how I would pick one over the other.  I have seen both of them live several times and again I will say that I love both of them.

I think you may be looking for shred-tastic... That is, unless you mean that they have a fantastic shed.

All else, I agree. Rob over Dickinson any day for me. And Steve is a bass god.

Obviously. Having a family member in the Polish Navy is the ultimate qualification for a heavy metal guitarist.

I bet Malmsteens dad was at least an admiral.

Janick... *ewww*.. LOL... I'm pretty sure i have mentioned this before. But i will say again why Priest is my number one. First of all, the sounds of both bands are different.
Reason why i like Priest better is because they have continually evolved, Maiden has their sound, and it doesn't really vary.
Priest on the other hand are pioneers... They are risk takers. I'm waiting for the next Maiden album to see what they can pull out. I have loved the past 3 albums, and play them more than i do their earlier works.
OK... Moving onto the vocalists.... Rob is the clear favourite. The first time i heard Priest i fell in love... His voice, the screams... Ohh i get shivers just thinking about it!
I will be honest the first couple of times i listened to Maiden i was not  fan of Bruce's vocals..It took a while to grow on me. Now i love his voice, it suits the style of music they play.
Musicianship.... Well my love for Steve goes beyond the physical... Yes, DC can think beyond his gorgeous appearance. I love the hard, driven, rythmic... "galloping" bass lines more. That doesn't mean that Ian is a worse player, he just plays the style that suits his band.... Ian's style has varied alot more as well.. Compare Stained Class to say.... Defenders Of the Faith. Very different. Same goes for Glenn and KK.... they can play solid rock riffs, or play some ultra heavy shed-tastic (made up a new word) stuff. Dave and Adrian... very awesome players, but again... they always stick to their sound.
It all boils down to the way both bands have evolved.... Simple.... you either love Priest for it or you hate them.... I'm guessing that every metal fan out there could pick at least one Priest album they like,  because they have touched on so many different styles...

YOUR RIGHT PHANTOM A6,IT IS'NT A BOXING MATCH AND THESE 2 BANDS DO GET OVER COMPARED.I KINDA COMPARED THE BASS BUT IT JUST STRUCK ME ODD HOW I HEARD SOMEONE SAY THE BASS IN MAIDEN WAS'NT ON THE SAME LEVEL YET HARRIS IS LIKE THE DAMN LEADER OF MAIDEN!MAYBE IAN IS'NT GETTING QUITE HIS DUE THEN?!I'M JUST JOKING.I DON'T THINK TECHNICALLY FAST OR HARD TO PLAY MUSIC MAKES IT BETTER ANYWAY,OFTEN OPPOSITE.I MEAN I LOVE ALOT OF YNGWIE MALMSTEEN STUFF BUT HE PRY THINKS HE'S BETTER THAN PRIEST AND MAIDEN CAUSE HE PLAYS MORE NOTES BUT THATS NUTS.I DON'T THINK HE'LL EVER BE NEAR AS GOOD.WHERE'S HIS HALFORD OR DICKINSON FOR STARTERS.I CAN LISTEN TO THE CULT WITH SIMPLE AS HELL BASS AND DRUMS BUT I STILL LOVE THE BAND,SAME WITH THE RAMONES OR ANY NUMBER OF GROUPS.NO WAY IS DREAM THEATER AS GOOD(AT LEAST TO ME) AS THESE 2 BEING COMPARED,TECHNIQUE DOES'NT BUY EVERYTHING  BY ANY STRETCH...I'VE HAD IT WITH THIS THREAD...DAMN I HOPE PRIEST PLAYS FLORIDA LIKE ON THE ANGEL OF RETRIBUTION TOUR.MAN THEY SMOKED QUEENSRYCHE WHO DID'NT HAVE A CHANCE! GREATLY INFERIOR BODY OF SONGS AND DID'NT HAVE DIDDLY STAGE SHOW TO MATCH.I THINK THEY WERE WILLING TO BE UPSTAGED JUST TO TOUR WITH THEIR IDOLS.WHO WOULD'NT,MAINLY..
[SIRENSONG] Monday, March 23, 2009 10:53:25 PM
HEY VAILLANT,I DID'NT MEAN TO BELITTLE IAN,SURE HE'S GOT SOME DECENT PARTS AND MAYBE A FEW CO-CREDITS BUT I HAVE HEARD I BELIEVE TIPTON MENTION HOW THEY HAD TO MAKE IT WORK WITH HIS MORE MINIMAL TECHNIQUE AND PLAYING STYLE.I CAN'T SAY IAN IS TECHNICALLY AS ACCOMPLISHED AS STEVE OR AS PROLIFIC A WRITER BUT THAT DOES'NT MEAN HE CAN'T ON EITHER FRONT.IN FACT,SOMETIMES GUYS ARE HELD BACK AND JUST TOW THE LINE FOR FEAR OF ROCKING THE BOAT AND MAYBE GETTING CANNED THOUGH I DON'T KNOW THE WORKING INTER-PERSONNAL RELATIONSHIPS IN THE BAND WHEN IT COMES TO SONGWRITING AND PLAYING.MAYBE GLENN AND K.K. MAKE HIM PLAY MORE SIMPLISTIC TO KEEP IT A BIT MORE COMMERCIALLY ACCESSIBLE,I DON'T KNOW.I KNOW HARRIS TENDS TO HAVE THE FINAL SAY IN MAIDEN SONGS AND IF SOMEONE LIKE BRUCE BRINGS SONGS HE SEE'S AS NOT MAIDEN APPROPRIATE HE WILL REJECT THEM AS HAPPENED TO DICKINSON ON SOMEWHERE IN TIME.I THINK BOTH BANDS ARE METAL GODS AND ENJOY 'EM QUITE EQUALLY THOUGH THEY HAVE DIFFERENT STYLES SOMEWHAT.

C'mon, let the church in the village, 'Cause there she's needed!! Everyone of us have misspelled a word in his/her life, you too ("does'nt" instead of "doesn't"), think about it!!
Yes, Steve is a briliant bass player and songwriter.
Ian Hill doesn't write anything?? You're sure?? OK, there's a famous songwriter team called Tipton/Halford/Downing, but
the complete arrangement is coming from Judas Priest!! Or do you think that Glenn has written the drum intro of Painkiller??
Or that K. K. has written the bass intros?? The rage as an example!!
This is a Judas Priest page and the most members here are Priest fans. No wonder that Ian is the greatest bass player for them (and he's one of the best)!! I'm a fan of Maiden too - my number 2!!

The name of this topic sucks!! "Judas Priest vs Iron Maiden".
They don't stand in a ring and fight, that's nonsens.

Both bands a great and are important for metal!!
Judas Priest rules!! Up the irons!!

Ian Hill did help co-write several songs in the band's early years. Plus he does have some pretty great parts in many songs, even though they may not be obvious at first. Ever heard Dreamer Deceiver? Or Run of the Mill? The Rage, even? Steve and Ian are equally great, IMO.

YEA,IT DOES 'SUCK' WILDHEART THAT YA HAVE TO PAY WITH MAIDEN TO USE THEIR MESSAGEBOARD.I PAID SO I COULD GET TIX FOR THE FT. LAUDERDALE SHOW COMING UP AND I GOT SCREWED BAD BY TICKETMASTER LIKE EVERYONE.I WAS THERE THE 1ST MINUTE THEY WENT UP AND THEY SAID NO FLOOR SEATS WERE AVAILABLE.I HAD TO GET ONE JUST OFF THE FLOOR.THE SCAM BETWEEN TICKETMASTER AND THEIR SCALPER AGENCIES ARE SO DISGUSTING I'M PRACTICALLY BOYCOTTING ALL FUTURE SHOWS EXCEPT MAYBE MAIDEN,PRIEST,METALLICA AND MAYBE 1-2 OTHERS.
MAIDEN AND PRIEST ARE THE BEST OF BRITISH METAL.MAIDEN IS DEFINATELY BRITISH METAL CAUSE HARRIS WOULD RETIRE BEFORE HE'D EVER LET ANYONE JOIN WHO IS'NT BRITISH,HE'S BEEN QUOTED AS SAYING!I THINK THATS A BIT LAME TO RETIRE IF YOU COULD'NT FIND A BRIT GOOD ENOUGH AND OTHERS ABROAD WERE SMOKIN' BUT HE HAS'NT HAD MUCH TROUBLE YET ASIDE FROM EX-VOCALIST BLAZE BAYLEY.I'D A TAKEN DIO ANYDAY OVER HIM..
