Subliminal Messages

some sounds are created because some people want them to be there though they may not exist.

IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY - (I HAVEN'T LISTENED TO VINYL IN SO LONG) - AFTER THE LAST TRACK ON IRON MAIDENS PIECE OF MIND, DIDN'T THEY HAVE A BACKWARDS MESSAGE THAT SAID:

"THERE IS NOTHING HERE YOU ASSHOLE. YOU ARE JUST GOING TO FUCK UP YOUR NEEDLE"

I GUESS EVERYONE BACK THEN THOUGHT TAT MAIDEN WERE "REAL" DEVIL WORSHIPERS AFTER THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST ALBUM WAS RELEASED.

Subliminal messages aren't messages played backwards.  The two are totally different.

Hi everyone. Actually there is some backwards stuff on this particular track. Quote - thanks to the Judas Priest Info Pages for this:

It was thought for a long time that this song contained a backwards message during the line "in the dead of night, love bites", but as it turns out:
"Actually, it isn't a backward message - it's that actual line just reversed backwards. It's basically just a production thing really. We were thinking of putting a backward message on the album as it faded out. We were gonna freak out all these protestors - the so-called 'moral majority' - and when they got to play it back properly, it was going to be something like, 'We like to drink a lot of milk' - something really healthy. But it's just a production thing really. When you're in the studio these days, one's constantly trying to come up with different sounds and ideas and so forth. The backward thing has been done for many, many years, right from the early '60s. But it just felt right - that particular thing just felt right for the particular tone that we were trying to set and achieve within the structure of that particular song, as we do with each song. The sounds and effects that we put in there are all geared towards achieving the maximum amount of what we're trying to do within that area of the song that you're working on."
- Rob Halford
"We wanted something that sounded pretty demonic and that's the best thing that we thought worked really well at the time!"
- K.K. Downing

As Rob revealed and as can be heard when played backwards, the message was merely the song's own chorus in reverse, with an added pitch-transposer giving a slow-motion growl to the line "In the dead of night", followed by an electronic bullhorn-like shout, "Love bites!"

So there you are !

the trial was several years after the defenders album (end of the 80s - beginning of 90s) and Love Bites is 1984, nevertheless, I also don't  think that there are any subliminal messages in JP songs.

alright alright.. perhaps "subliminal messages" was an inappropriate title for this.  i figured the noises were simply sound effect.  i'm just wondering if anyone knows for sure what is being said in the background tho.  I just relistened and to me it doesnt not sound like the lyrics to the song in a "lower octave" as someone said before.  sounds like a different language.  regardless, i have always thought it was very cool and it has always given that song a very eerie feeling for me!  still the coolest opening song i've seen as well

You can get a lot of weird sounds when they loop it thru a processor and over lap those sounds. Its called "studio magic".

Correct. It's a compressor effect and a harmonizer.

He is screaming in the background and it sounds like he is just repeating the lyrics over in a lower octive..........believe me there are no subliminal messages in Priest music. Just a lot of overdubbing.

well what is it that the guy is supposed to be saying/preaching in the background or is it all giberish used to sound cool??

It's called compression and  layering of the music. { Sound effects}   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by jptunis from Monday, September 29, 2008 4:42:26 PM)

I have always noticed certain "noises" and "words" in the background of Love Bites.

As the band comes out of their breakdown and solo and start with the next set of lyrics, you hear what sounds to me like The Metallion making noise in the background followed by a guys speaking in tongues or something. This occurs in the background during the following lyrics:

I knew at first sight
You'd join my attack
That with my first bite
There'd be no turning back

So come in my arms
I strike any hour
I will return
To trap and devour

The "Metallion" noises could just very well be noises to add affect or they could possibly be something else.  The guy speaking is clearly something being spoken in another language.  Does anyone have any clue on either??
