Gotta go with "Rocka Rolla" for this one.

How many times does this album get overlooked & yet when you listen to it there's some really good stuff.

One For The Road is a solid starter, Rocka Rolla is a pretty damn catchy single, Cheater is an excellent little rocker, Never Satisfied is an absolutely underrated Priest classic (now given some true exposure on the Epitaph tour) as is the mighty 8 minute epic that is Run Of The Mill, and even Caviar & Meths is a beautifully played throw-away.

For me The Winter Suite & Dying To Meet You(/Hero Hero) are the weakest tracks, but I can still listen to them with ease.

I've heard many a mention about the poor production, and yes there is an audible hiss, but aside from that I think the sound is just fine, especially for 1974. It's not metal, obviously, but for a debut album, by a band finding it's way it's a definate blues-y in places, rock classic!

There's even a heavier version of Diamonds & Rust on the CD, which certainly rivals the "Sin After Sin" version (& yes, I know it's technically from the "Sad Wings..." sessions).

Sin After Sin. I love it, I love Priest '70 revolution, I love Simon Phillips. It should be way preferred to British Steel, imho.

It's not Brian's post, it's thinking about what I posted that got banned that confuses me. Some of the stupid
shit I've said to Jimmy is still up but that got banned. (???)

Point of Entry was the first tour I saw live and is one of the best overall i think. I love all Preist music with Halford singing.

Don't be confused 'Cause of a post by Brian "The Brain" Evans.

....Uh', I mean "my (posts)".

I'm pretty sure I didn't say anything that should have been banned. I've written far worse in the past.
I don't care, I'm just confused.

I like Lochness also, it has a killer guitar riff. I think they should open their show with it and have a huge Lochness monster rising behind them  ...or maybe Rob Halford could wear a Loch Ness Monster suit  ...lmao ..just kidding about the monster stuff but that track is cool.   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by metalgodess from Thursday, March 31, 2011 7:54:11 PM)

[guitardude] Saturday, March 19, 2011 5:37:13 PM
JD, I agree with you, even thought I had originally said "Hell Bent for Leather", I tend to think to of the bands older material when asked about anything covering their history.    I play something off of "AoR" nearly everytime I`m in my car, truck or on my bike!

I agree 100% as everybody already knows. While not the very best Priest album,Angel Of Retribution is the most underrated LP in the band's history, but not by far....a few others are right there too...

angel of retribution.......people always give props to the classic stuff, and rightfully so, but dont hear much about this album anymore, and i think top to bottom it is nearly perfect

How about everyone just drops it eh guy, it's getting silly all this sledging and shit.
[jimmyjames] Tuesday, March 15, 2011 9:18:47 PM
Good to see you're still lurking in the background Michael. Don't call Brian a pussy, that's sexist and derogatory towards women. Also anyone whose ever come second at anything might take offence toward your comment about him being a loser. As for calling me a nobody, that could be misconstrued, people who don't exist might take offence that you are using their status as a way to insult somebody else.

Thanks Bud and Spa.

Every little fanboy pussy like Brian can call me a "Kraut"
'Cause it's an honour for me!! You're just a little fucking loser, that's all!!
And Jimmy, well, what should I say?? Nothing, 'Cause he's a nobody!!

It's not considered super offensive here, mind you we don't really have many Germans so I wouldn't know. Never used it personally. It's the German equivalent of calling a British person a Pom to us. But like I said, I've never really heard it used. Other than on American tv shows, hehe.

how about we dont post millions of insulting things.
[Budred] Monday, March 14, 2011 10:33:03 PM

I thought you were pretty smart until that comment.
I guess there is nothing wrong with calling a black guy a n*gger either.
After all it was just another way of saying negro during the slave trade.
Kraut may be sour cabbage but it's still a derogatory comment towards Germans.
You don't like me for comments about police or religion but you're starting to come off as a racist and a homophobe.

Millions of things more abusive and offensive? Are you serious? Post them.
Unless it's a response to something said to me I think you'll have trouble.

I don't know about your end of the world, but calling a German a Krout is not very nice. So, I agree it is offensive, just like calling Jewish people certain names, and Mexicans certain names, and the list could go on, but it's just seen as derogatory and ignorant.

[jimmyjames] Monday, March 14, 2011 9:39:04 PM
Kraut? That's not offensive. It comes from sauerkraut. Which means sour cabbage. I hardly think calling someone a cabbage is going to offend them. You've said millions of things much more abusive and offensive than that.

I think, possibly Defenders of the Faith, it is certainly one of the best with Songs like The Sentinel, Frewheel Burning, Jawbreaker and Lovebites - though it was pretty successfull. Though Point of Entry seems to be less talked about.
[Budred] Monday, March 14, 2011 4:06:17 AM
Why Phantom A6?
Brian, that "kraut" comment sounds pretty derogatory. Ripping someone is one thing
but that seems a little much.

That chick could very well be HRMG, but i'm not seeing the Halford necklace and t-shirt ....or Ozzy  ......lol

[jimmyjames] Sunday, March 13, 2011 9:29:17 PM
Natural for a person who has one leg significantly shorter than the other. Ok so the ladies and JD don't think Starbreaker is a gay song, I still do. No-one's convinced me otherwise. Lets leave it at that and talk about the saucy naked chick wearing nothing but heels.

The "Eat me Alive" song, while not heard that year was all well on the back of JP tour shirts. A picture of a leather clad  woman in spike heels with her wrists handcuffed to her ankles. That was the back of my tourshirt.  My mother was mortified! LMAO!!!

I agree Guitardude, just enjoy the songs but I'm courious if that  "tasnam1" , jimmy james or anybody for that matter can name these "tons" or "loads" of songs/lyrics that has a slant towards the homosexual side, they can't do it as they will only be able to come up with 3 or 4 and not tons or loads, its fucking ridiculous.

Even the song  lyrics 'Eat Me Alive"  were written by Tipton/Downing/Halford while they were all 3 drunk off thier asses one night in 83' and the song was originally going to be called "Bad Girls In Leather" but they thought that name was too tame so they changed it to Eat Me Alive which could be taken either heterosexual or homosexual but it doesn't "slant" towards "homosexuality".

People read way too much into this shit,I couldn't find the article/interview but Halford already mentioned that the lyrics are not "gay" they can be taken either way the listener wants to perceive it.  Like I said,Id like a list of these fucking "tons" of songs.....

Probably Defenders of the Faith. It has such fantastic song like Freewheel Burning, Jawbreaker, Love Bites and of course The Sentinel.
[Vaillant 3.0] Sunday, March 13, 2011 3:30:06 AM
A little late for this discussion, I know, but I always thought of those two figures as sinners waiting for that door to open (IS it a door?). What could it contain? Maybe the paradise that the Starbreaker promised? Maybe it's something sinister? Maybe they both got screwed by that one "raw deal"? The world may never know. It's definitely a much gloomier album cover than the SWOD one.

Name "tons" of these songs with the "SLANT" towards the gay preference and not the ones written for both sexes....not just 3 songs...."tons"....?
