I wont try to convince you. I know that I would not go to an all instrumental Priest show.  No argument there. ............Night.

OK, so you say you would go to an instrumental Judas Priest concert? You know your full of it! You would NOT pay 89.00 to go see Priest with NO lead singer! I had to sign back on before bet just to call you out on that FALSE statement! lol
Are you getting delusional in your old age?

Well stated, Spa. I had forgotten all about that article you posted. Nice re-read.

lol  ok thats not true, but to me personally I have never accepted Ripper as a member of Priest and I guess he always will be,but I just hate Ripper's voice and I do like Richie's own brand/style into the band and its because of what Spapad just said in her post below.

I feel the same way and she worded it correctly.  In my opinion the vocals are the most important part of the band because they are so upfront and its what we listen for when the vocals kick in ect....

A Priest  album without K.K. won't be the same and no it won't beat albums like Sad Wings,British Steel Painkiller but I believe it will turn out better than those 2 albums without Rob,just my own look at it though.

all true, but rob doesnt sound the same every night.  I dont dispute that rob is a better singer than tim, I would rank rob as the best living singer, but honestly if priest toured without a vocalist, doing a instrumental set I would go.  guess its just me but the singer is just a part of the band.

[spapad] Thursday, September 01, 2011 7:31:28 PM
In my opinion, guitar is a more fluid art than singinig. KK never played the exact same solos every single night so why can't Richie play his solos from his heart? It does not affect the overall structure of the song.

There is something about a frontman's voice that brands a band, especiall when it was such an incredible voice that branded the sound. Have I heard the Ripper era  stuff? Yes! I just was not impressed with the majority of it just like I was not impressed with much of Rob's Fight material, and Two? No!

It's the combination of Rob with Priest that makes the genuine sound of Priest.

Am I sad that KK has departed? Sure, but considering age, his life as it is today, and his statements on why he left; I hold no animosity toward Richie because he was asked to fill big shoes. KK made his decision and I respect that.

Do I think the new album will suffer because KK is not giving creative input? That remains to be seen and perhaps the final cuts will show us just how much KK contributed to the sound quality of Priest. The jury is still out until the new album hits the shelves.  Any accomplished guitarist can play KK's riffs and Richie probably grew up trying to learn all he could from listening to both KK and Glen. But can he add to the sound? We will see.

Now, just to round out my argument about why Halford is so key, I offer you this article:

this is judas halford dont you know.  the other 4 dont matter.  hell you and I could grab some stringed instrument and have at it.  as long as robs there.  of course I dont know which end of the guitar to hold but heck how hard can it be.

I'm not bashing anyone I just want to point something out.
Some say they don't like Ripper because he sings differently
than Rob and therefore changes the sound of Priest so he is
unacceptable yet Richie gets commended for adding his own
style and flair and thus changing the Priest sound.
Bash one and praise the other.

No.

how is richie more a true member than ripper.  he is replacing a member who was in the band a lot longer than rob.

nor one album with 14.  still a singer is only a part of the band.  if you replaced halford in the band by the same name, then I see an issue.  to me real priest is about the guitar, the bass, the drums, and for sure the singer.  the guitars work for me though.  hell they could do it all instrumental and I would be ok with that.

you gave them a chance though.  some singers play with lyrics in concert to fit the part of the world they are in.  that doesnt bother me if its ocasional

Yeah for me I've never even liked Accept but I do think they are a worthy heavy metal band/some songs at least but man that Blood Of Nations album with the new singer sounds better than the old Accept, actually to me its the best Accept album there is!

However about Priest, yeah I'd be fibbing if I said I wasn't nervous about this next album without K.K., I am glad K.K. is gone because K.K. himself doesn't want to be in Priest so yeah its a good thing he aint here and I think Richie is the perfect fit I really do and not just saying that either,Richie is definately a true member of Judas Priest tons more so than Ripper in my opinion.

But yeah I'm a little nervous about an album without K.K. The only thing is that this new album can't be worse than Nostradamus,it just can't even without K.K.  If the LP turns out equal to Angel Of Retribution (in our opinion because I know you actually like A.O.R. like I do guido) than it will be awsome.

I too hated it when Ripper changed some lyrics ect...yeah that sucked balls. Ripper turned Priest into a band like Disturbed or Godsmack and nothing against these bands I'm just making a comparison,Ripper's image on the Demolition tour was unacceptable and I was shocked that Glenn and Ken allowed it,like on the Live In London DVD he looks like a 4th member of The Beastie Boys.

Richie doesn't bring that "nu" metal to Priest,he seems more old school if anything. Lets just hope the new "songs" on the new Priest album are kick ass, thats where it will count as you know. Actually,we don't really differ that much at all on the subject Guido.

I own everthing from begining to current.

While some is much better than others, I can find some songs I like on every album.

Burn in Hell is a great track!!!!

Live in London I think is a great DVD show.

Some good in all albums - even Turbo (Reckless, Out in the Cold) Nost - (several tracks)

Again - just my opinion...

Buy them all once!
[guidogodoy] Thursday, September 01, 2011 4:33:02 PM
See, and there is where we both agree and differ. I also don't like the Ripper-era albums because I just don't like them. Indeed, I have heard them, tried to give them a chance but just thought that the songs were bad. I can't stand Ripper's voice and, even worse, when he changes the traditional lyrics of some songs to give it his own touch. It is bloody awful.

Maybe it is just me but I don't equate a drummer with a lead singer. Just not the same ballpark. When Dave left Van Halen, I felt the same. Change the damn name to Van Hagar! Nothing against the great talent of the rest of the guys but it just wasn't the same without Diamond Dave.

That said, I do like Turbo and Nostra. Granted, I never bought Turbo on CD so that shows my ranking of it. Then again, I just blew the big bucks on the Singles and do own Metalogy AND the cassette. Same goes for Ram it Down.

All this begs the question about a JP album without KK. While I do have my reservations, I will certainly give it a try just as I did with the Ripper albums. However, I think that the album will have a better chance with Rob than would an album with Ripper.  Same thoughts about Iced Earth with Ripper, BTW, as I have stated before.

So far, one of the VERY few bands I like that went from a mega-singer to someone new was Accept - Blood of the Nations.

Point taken Head Banger. Don't get me wrong,I do like some of Jugulator but in my personal opinion and its just me but I personally don't like Ripper Owens "voice". I know some will be puzzled by this but his voice sounds too "american" if that makes sense, the way he sounds his words just doesn't fit in Priest to me.

That guy Rob from his project band Redeemer from Italy totally blows away Ripper owens into fragments of dust particals, they should of got somebody like that,Ripper's voice bugs me too much....but thats not all of it,I think the songs themselves were too under-par and of less quality.

If Halford sang on Jugulator and Demolition I still wouldn't own either of them because of the song quality, thats why I don't own Turbo or Nostradamus. But I agree with you there....don't just not give it a listen because Rob isn't there....to somebody else who knows...if they give it a listen they may love Jugulator or Demolition so yeah they should listen for themselves.

Am I the only one here who owns all four Ripper-era albums (and the DVD as well)?

Not to say that they're any good, I only got them to complete my collection. I rarely listen to them at all. I completely understand if someone wants to ignore them.
[Head banger] Thursday, September 01, 2011 3:33:28 PM
right, thats ok, you tried them, didnt like them and you dont like some with Rob.  makes sense to me.  its the I cant try it if robs not there that gets me.  if I was glen kk ian and scott I would quit.  why bother when rob is the only one that matters.  re name the band halford and let him go on alone.

I'm glad to know that I wasn't the only one without Ripper-era material in my possession.  Thought I was being overly-loyal to the Metal God, but that's just my sentiment.  Never heard anything from those albums, don't care to either.

Definately buy Angel of Retribution. I can't comment on Jugulator or Demolition because I was mad about Rob leaving and did not, or have not since bought those two albums. Priest Live is not a very good live album, however if your looking to complete your "Remasters" collection it is one of them. Nostradamus has some good songs on it, but it also has alot of intermezzos? Some people really liked it but most of us hard core fans were not so thrilled with it.

Budred is right, you will get a different answer from everyone of us, but you can get a consensus I suppose.

If you get twenty responses you're going to have twenty different answers.
Don't base your decision on someone else's opinion. If you're that confused
then download them and listen, then decide which of them to buy. When it
comes to opinion your own is always best. Peace.
