IN MY OPINION THEY ARE THE 3RD BEST HEAVY METAL BAND OF ALL TIME UNDER JUDAS PRIEST AND SAXON

Morgana Lafey: A VERY good musicianship throughout the band, perhaps more talented instrumental wise than Hammerfall but as far as the actual song writting skills and the actual songs themselves?

Hammerfall to me is FAR,FAR much better at song writting. They are linked into "power metal" as thier style of music even though they answer to questions about power metal, they are actually a traditional british styled "heavy metal" band according to original vocalist Joacim Cans, and original guitarist Oscar Dronjak.

The same way Motorhead is called a heavy metal band when they are a hard ROCK band even according to Lemmey.

Hammerfall is very consistant, thier first 7 LPs kick major ass,and thier last album #8 "Infected" is the bands only SHIT album, with that album they should of been called "Hammerfail". Lol

An even better band from Sweden imo is Morgana Lefay, they have'nt had the recognition that Hammerfall has but they are far better I think.

Hammerfall are a great band, though I prefer Dragonforce when it comes down to Power Metal. My fav song of HF is "Last Man Standing"
[J.D. DIAMOND] Wednesday, October 16, 2013 1:53:26 AM
Yeah the fact that I have them at # 3 ALL TIME best HEAVY METAL band bothers a lot of people....but really to me they ARE #3. I think they have achieved more than lets say Maiden musically in my opinion....better than most HM bands in my opinion.

Listen to the full lp of 2002's " Crimson Thunder".

Every track is kick butt except one...the ballad "Dreams Come True".....Priest has ballads too and don't like the majority of them too.

Hammerfall will be my #1 active HM band when Priest and Saxon hang up thier leathers.

Big time.

That's too funny, how could anyone not like Rob Halford's stage presence? I like a lot of different bands and don't get too caught up in wheather their thrash or whatever style they are. If I like what I hear then it doesn't matter what genre they are. The first Metallica song I heard was "For Whom The Bell Tolls" and thouoght it was amazing. Never got to see them but I still think they are an amazing metal band. Probably shouldn't have called Hammerfall cheesy because I haven't listened to enough of their music.

Metallica(1982-1986) and Megadeth are really like a heavy metal Thrash .....HF are a melodic heavy metal band...founded by Oscar Dronjak....he has many fav heavy metal influences. but Judas Priest is his all time fav.....vocalist J.Cans has many heavy band favs but Saxon are his all time fav....that really sums up Hammerfall...the melodic songs are really influenced by Biff and Saxon and the melodic side to Judas Priest shows up in thier material not to rip them off but to pay homage.
I don't think you would like HF...that's cool..we don't all like the same things obviously .

I am 43 yrs old and first got into Metallica in 1984 when I was 14 when I first heard a tape cassette of Ride The Lightning....in 1984 This blew me away. I also got MOP when it first came out in 86'....I was 16 and like now,an elite metal head....A.J.F.A. 1988 was a jump to commercial status and wasn't as quality metal as the previous 3 studio lps but still very much Metallica....but when the black album came out that did it for me. Like this thread....its only my opinion.

Megadeth I have never liked but I realize they are a worthy thrash band of course.
I saw Metallica live in 1986 On the Puppets tour(wow what a show that was let me tell ya)
and saw Megadeth open for King Diamond on the Fatal Portrait tour 1986 ...Peace Sells tour...

But when I rank HF...I don't count bands like Metallica and Megadeth because they have thrash links. The bands I do compare and rank with them only have traditinal heavy metal links in them.
[J.D. DIAMOND] Monday, September 02, 2013 4:03:32 AM
Lol...yeah its a guy at my work, he's a huge Maiden fan that happens just to not like Judas Priest....I can't fathom it but so be it....what's funny is that his #2 fav band is old Van Halen and he doesn't like Halfords stage presence....as if D.L. Roths is any better?lol

Anyways,to rank Hammerfall over Iron Maiden would be unthinkable to Hammerfall's vocalist Joacim Cans and guitarist Oscar Dronjak...they would say no way...these guys appologized to Accept for the fact one tour Hammerfall headlined over Accept as they said it should of been the other way around....but to me they are #3 but OLD (1980-1984) Iron Maiden I rank #4 best heavy metal band all time. Its just an opinion.

The fact I rate Hammerfall #3 bothers many,I'm sure.
They aren't flawless...they have a couple tunes that are under par like every band does.

[Rick80] Sunday, September 01, 2013 8:37:27 PM

I like those songs even if they are cheesy, LOL.

I really don't know enough about Hammerfall to compare them to other bands but yeah the Killers album was amazing. I like Metallica and Megadeth. I think their up there with Priest. Not saying their better but up there in the same league.

Lol....yeah...he said they are cheesey with tracks like Take on the world...Hot Rockin...lol....Turbo Lover....I'm A Rocker......he said they are corney.......pretty much the same way you think Hammerfall are cheesey..ha ha...its all good, neither band are cheesey to me ....so tell me....besides Priest abd Saxon...who are better than Hammerfall anyways? Iron Maiden? I'd say the Killers lp Hammerfall has not beat yet....but the rest of Maidens lps HF rivals and beats big time.

Who else....Dio? Ozzy? Sabbath? Accept? Yes great bands but to me HF beats them.

Who else is better than Priest?
[Rick80] Monday, August 26, 2013 10:28:13 PM

(lol) I just heard a "metal head" about 2 weeks ago try to explain to me how Judas Priest was "cheesy"so hey,if your ears hear cheese like Manowar then more power to ya lol

And Priest is up there with the best heavy metal bands.....?
That's kinda cheesy, but that's ok......this would explain. why you are unaware of Saxon's music.
[Rick80] Friday, August 02, 2013 8:59:30 PM
That's a pretty bold statement putting them in 3rd place among heavy metal bands. I listened to some of the Hammerfall videos you posted and in a way they are kind of cheesy like Manowar but that's ok. More power to you though in your evaluation. I'll have to listen to more Saxon to comment on them. There are so many great heavy metal bands and yes Judas Priest is right up there with the best of them.

Comments from Hammerfall founding member Oscar Dronjak in swedish interview mag:

About Angel Of Retribution vs. Chapter V:Unbent,Unbowed,Unbroken on the Swedish carts.....it seems Judas Priest held #1 and Hammerfall #2, is it weird for you competing with a band you grew up idolizing?

Dronjak: "Of course it is!" I would never look at it in terms of competing with them, even if it might seem that way. They ( Judas Priest) are "heros of mine, and I really love them." For me they will always be number one.

Hammerfall's last album 2011's " Infected" was totally lame! A crappy zombie concept, the songs/song writting is off for the band you can tell,it sucks and the cover of the album sucks, the logo even sucks big balls!

See Trixi...even Hammerfall has a shitty album and shitty songs to go on it!

Does this mean I don't like Hammerfall? No Trixi,it does not.
[J.D. DIAMOND] Wednesday, June 26, 2013 5:58:31 AM
Actually they ARE the 3rd best heavy metal band of ALL TIME because it is "MY" opinion that they are just like the thread says so...

Just as some people rank Iron Maiden # 1 and Judas Priest # 2.

I know people who love Maiden,Saxon,Sabbath,Dio and don't even like Judas Priest,it's all up to the eye of the beholder........so neahhh...!!! Lol

Absolutely HRMG,good professional band....I think what I meant was not death metal but thrash elements that were found in Jugulator and not Painkiller (similar to when Ripper Owens screams "MUTILATE" on the Jugulator track) except with Death Dealer there is much more small thrash influences but not full thrash....there arent any influences of Priest before Painkiller but not that there has to be or anything....

I think my over all opinion is that (for me I'm talking about) Shawn Peck looks and sounds too much like Rob.....same thing with the sound and image of Primal Fear as well, but this is my opinion.....but Death Dealer is a professional talented band,no doubt about that, definately a heavy-metal-thrash band.

With Hammerfall there are no thrash elements and the vocalist Joacim Cans laughs when they are called a "power metal band" as he repeatedly lables Hammerfall classic heavy metal from influences of Judas Priest,Iron Maiden,Saxon and Accept....but this thread isnt to try and convince anybody to agree with me....

Never thought I would find a band that could (in my personal individual opinion which would not be shared by many I know this) top Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath, but for me Hammerfall has achieved this status,I'd put up thier discography(except 2011's Infected LP) against Maidens any day....the only 2 lps of Maiden they couldnt top would be Killers and The number of the beast in my opinion fir example....

But again,I dont want or expect others to have my opinion about Hammerfall....for years to come they will be my metal saviors thats for sure, hell yeah!

Yes, Death Dealer definitely has thrash influences. But all the songs on the album are not like that. Hammer Down, for example, is a kick ass metal song. It has that pounding drum beat that I love and gives it the classic metal sound. Children Of Flames, the ballad of the album, would have it's place in any classic metal album. So for me, it's a mix of classic metal and thrash, I don't hear any death metal influences.

In my personal opinion Hammerfall are better than Black Sabbath,Iron Maiden,OZZY,DIO ECT....

Every blue moon the fanbase of old heavy metal picks up thier instruments and creates another chapter for themselves, and to me(not everbody else) Hammerfall have achieved a quality discography based on thier excellent song writting skills, thier excellent MELODIES" .

Each Lp (except 2011's Infected album which I didnt care for) only has 1 under-par less quality track on it except 2006 "Threshold" LP which there are only 2 under-par tracks.

Another reason I like this band is that they are not so close in image & sound to Judas Priest.....

Bands like Primal Fear,Cage, new Death Dealer,ect...they all have vocalists that sound and look too much like Rob Halford and thier tracks are all based from influences from the Painkiller Lp and Jugulator....there isnt enough older styled 80's metal in there,Halford bassist Mike Davis band Death Dealer is total metal and all,but borders on the line of almost thrash....its almost a cross between heavy metal and death metal just with clear vocals, just not for me but not saying these bands are not worthy for someone else.

When Judas Priest,Saxon,Iron Maiden,Motorhead,Accept and other older bands that are at the end of thier long career retire for good, there will be a handfull of albums/artists that will fill that void with quality heaavy metal music but what band is really out there that will be your #1 current active band when that time comes?

Mine will be Hammerfall, because thier song writting is consistant. The lead vocalist Joacim Cans in my opinion has the best backing vocal harmonies with Hammerfall of all time, although I'm not saying he is the best vocalist of all time no,but he sure the hell is ranked up there in the top 5.

And he is 43 years old,Oscar Dronjak the founding member guitarist is 41 years old,the rest of the band are of the same age and they have said they want to be around 25 years from now,so they have got plenty of albums ahead of them. There will be other bands that are kick ass,but untill proven otherwise for myself Hammerfall remains in my opinion the 3rd best heavy metal band of all time, hell yeah!
