Just got back from vacation hell which is otherwise known as 8 days of Walt Disney World. Dont get me wrong I actually like Disney, but not with two whining children who fight all day, and get bored in two seconds without instant gratification (and the bad part is they are best friends, eleven years old, and not actually related).

So tonight, when I got home, I saw the Leak on the website. I am very tired from driving for 11.1/2 hours but as soon as I realized the whole album was on the site I signed off straight away!

I want to hear it on the 17th, (which is today)! I want to hear it from my very own CDs. I want to enjoy taking the time to fully enjoy my CDs and the book it comes with.

I want to lay in a dimly lit room and listen to the  whole thing a couple of times to begin with and dare anyone to interrupt me.

That is the way it was intended to be absorbed.

Well I have followed suit! I just heard Exiled in its entirety on YouTube, I am amazed at how much emotion this song conveys! It is EPIC! I don't care if there are no fast songs, this is gonna be brilliant!

Put my foot in my mouth!  An apology to the JP fans of this site.

I recently wrote a very harsh review of the Nostradamus cd based on my first listent to "LEAKS" on MTV.com. Being a long time head-banger and fan of Priest I was spoiled with hard crunching riffs and ear-piercing screams of past Priest cds so when I first listened to the cd via the "leaks" I was a bit turned upside down by their new sound. After I shut my mouth and opened my ears, I listened for a second and now I'm on my third time through (even as I write this) and I have to say the more I listen, the more I'm stunned by the depth and versitility of the music. It's nothing I would have expected but now greatly appreciate and even enjoy more!  The more I listen,  the more I like it. Nostradamus is not the super fast paced metal I expected...............It's so much more! I'm really enjoying song 10 "Peace".

So to all those I may have offended I'm sorry to have so quickly judged the new cd. It really is fucking good and gets better after several listens!

Regards,

JayDee

I haven't heard the stream because I want to wait for the CD.
I did go to Amazon.com and listened to a handful of the samples there
and I was very impressed. I cannot wait until next week for the full thing.
And bring on August 10th!!

I fully agree with you Genocide and Healer!  I streamed it yesterday morning while at work (hey, it's slow at 4:30 in the am...I can do that) and was impressed with the diversity of songs and the overall quality of the music itself.  Despite what people may be expecting, I don't think Judas Priest went in with the idea of making a straight up heavy metal concept album (such as Iced Earth's Something Wicked, Part 1), but with making a concept album that encompasses literally all of their musical knowledge.  I absolutely love the classical guitar parts and the way the songs just flow into each other.  It's akin to reading a great novel in the way that it flows and everything seems just absolutely seemless.  I personally will be going for front row seats for full-blown Nostradamus tour and if they have a VIP Package for that, I'm getting it.

To those of you who don't like the CD or what you've heard so far, sorry to have read that, but to each their own I guess.

I agree with you, Healer.
This was an amazing masterpiece.

Yes, this might be more 'Opera' than we Priest fans like, but they did make an Epic album.

I definetly loved this, and can't wait for June 17th!
(And August 2nd!)

The album is incredible
The musicianship throughout this production is beyond anything I could have imagined. I know the "thrash/deathmetal" lovers of Priest are not going to like this but I think the majority of us will all agree this is amazing! Throughout every song I could imagine the theatrical production!  It will be amazing! I really hope they go through with their plans to do the entire album in a theatrical production. To me this album is a blend of Sad Wings, Defenders and Painkiller with today's modern symphonic sound to it.  This is completely different yet still Priest.  I LOVE THESE GUYS!

I am not going to listen to the leak preview but I don;t see a problem with a ballady cd. Angel and Beyond The Realms of Death are two of the nest ballads I have ever heard n they were both by Priest! Nostradamus just sounds like one of those things where you have to have an open mind. It's like the Iced Earth something wicked part 1 concept album ,you have 2 have an open mind. Its always good to hear a heavy metal band try something new and splice some extra little non metal bits inbetween the main songs. I cannot wait for Nostradamus, I have loved every Judas Priest album and I'm sure I will love this one

Look at Turbo-that was a ambitious cd with a lot of synth. People said WTF? but at least it somewhat rocked throughout the cd and it rocks more than Nostradamus! I don't understand why "opera" had to come in to the mix.. can you blend opera and metal? Sure, but you can also blend a nice Merlot with Pepsi but it won't taste good. If JP wanted to add an "opera" element then make a heavy metal cd about Nostradamus and sprinkle it with opera. JP did it backwards and made a opera cd sprinkled with heavy metal.

You can listen to the whole cd in it's entire *see JP news for the links.*   Scorpions recent concept cd "Humanity Hour" is more rockin and that an't saying much. I love Priest but hey got too unnecessarily wound-up in the whole opera element.

Believe me when I say I love Priest! I have all the cds seen many many show over the past 25+ years. I was eagerly waiting for their new cd. I spent  a good amount of time last night listening to every song on the cd via MTV's "Leak" *see JP news for many links to listen*. I have to tell you the quality of hte production is good, the songs themselves are decent BUT we're talking about a band that prides themselves on making HEAVY METAL and this cd is not heavy metal-it's not even heavy!  In almost evey song(exception few) I found myself saying "COME ON, Let's Rock!" and it never happened until song 22, Nostradamus.

With that many slow songs can anyone honestly say they could go to a JP concert to find themselves not rocking out and banging their head but instead just standing there or sitting down to listen to JP play the whole Nostradamus cd? Because out of 104 minutes you get about 70 minutes of ballads, slow intros, that stuff.
Again I love Priest and will see them on 7/22 in Seattle- (for the umpteenth time) but "METAL" -"OPERA"  these two are a contradiction in terms and always will be. Unfortunately Priest made a great effort and a good cd but it's not HEAVY METAL, it's not even heavy!

I believe if anyone takes an honest listen to the "LEAKS" they'll come to the same conclusion.

I just took a quick listen....  I did like what I heard.. But Iam not going to comment on everything... I have been a Priest fan for a very long time.  I praise the band as one of leading Metal Bands of all time..  I give them credit for still being here... And not just fading away in the dust.. as much of the other bands have done..

Remember.. Alot of what they do will not please everyone.. or all of the people all of the time...  Thier History speaks for itself!!  How many of us would go see them on tour regardless of any new cd?  I know I would..  Bands that are out now a days..are  of a different generation.. and thier music is not appealing to all ... So to hold priest accountable.. and compare them to today's music.. Is to pre-mature..    ANd remember.. If it wasnt bands like Judas priest to lead the way through Metal  Where would all these new bands be today?    I look forward to the new cd.. Regardless.. I know there will be songs on it I may not like.. But I am  not going to judge based on the few that I may not like.. I happen to like what I have heard so far.........

I had not heard "The Leak's" preview of the album, because my computer sucks... but when I rolled over to Amazon.com and heard the 30-second previews I couldn't say I disagree with JayDee. I will admit that in recent months that my listening ventures have been focused on bands like Iced Earth, whom we know has been writing conceptual pieces since its conception, and several other progressive acts. Not to sound arrogant, but after this turn of events I have somewhat of an idea of how concept albums flow. And in what I heard, Priest did not deliver. It seemed to me just about every other tune was an acoustic piece. I'd like to think that maybe these are the intros that build up to something much more grandiose, that which I think could be interesting. But where's the variety? We've known Priest to have written a plethora of sounds for its albums, where not one song sounded similar to the others. This time it's maybe 2 fast songs, where the rest become slow and tedious. This is not to say I won't dislike the album, because as it is an ambitious undertaking I will eagerly give it a chance, especially after the great reviews I've read that goad the excitement before its release. However I think if it ends up like the previews I've heard, I would hope this thing dies out fast. We know what happened the last time the band tried a new direction.

I just gave each song a brief listen as I didnt want to spoil the "new CD" experience.   I ordered the CD and book yesterday.  What I heard was different, thats for sure.  I must say that I was hoping for more Nostradamus type barn burners more in the vein of AOR or Painkiller but what I heard was excellent.  It will, it seems, take time for a lot of us to "adjust" to this direction but I am sure that after a few listens we will all be ranking this as an EPIC recording.

Dude, I have to think you're being a tad bit too harsh.  However, my copy of Nostradamus will be shipping in exactly 6 days and I will happily post an unbiased opinion after a couple of listens.  Remember, the band said themselves this is one of those CDs where you are going to have to sit down in quiet and give it two good listens straight through to get the full effect of everything they're doing.

Ok-I've been a Priest fan for 25+ yrs and when I heard the "Visions" and "Nostradamus" songs I was excited and pre-ordered my copy of the new cd. Now that I've listen to the whole cd I have to honestly say I've never been more disappointed and let down than I feel now.  I give JP credit for trying to take on such a ambiscious project but they've gone WAY out of the bounds of HEAVY METAL and basically wrote a lame (exception of about 4 songs) ballad cd.  This makes me seriously long to listen to Queensryche's Operation Mindcrime, which is by far heavier all the way through than JP's Nostradamus.

Had I know there would be such a plethora of SLOW songs I wouldn't have spent the money on the cd. I understand the idea of a Nostradamus  concept cd but not the need for a "metal opera".....where and how the fuck does metal opera come together?? This is a contradiction in terms.  Why couldn't Priest just made a (at the very least) a hard rock concept with rocking songs all the way through VS a big batch of slow boring..zzzzzzzz. songs-with the exception of Persecution, War, Visions, Nostradamus?  Priest really needed to take a page out of Queensryche O.M. and attach it to Nostradamus then we would have something!

I am going to the 7/22 Seattle show with Testament in hopes of the OLD Priest songs... If and when they come around with the full Nostradamus show you'll see a lot of empty seats because no one will want to go to a HEAVY METAL show looking to shake their fists and bang their heads only to stand(or sit) through a bunch of slow songs sprinkled with heavy good songs.....

This cd may start out strong on the sales but will quickly fall flat and put back on the shelf while fans grab PAINKILLER!!

I'm sorry to be harsh but I have to be honest.......I'm very disappointed.
JayDee
