Devils Child, Nostradamus is better than Chinese Democracy. But, I have to openly say that a real Guns N' Roses album (and not a bunch of guys playing under the name Gn'R, pretending to be Gn'R) would outdo any 'Priest effort. We saw it pretty clearly in 1991. However I must personally say that if it was 1991 and Operation Rock N' Roll tour and I got a choice between seeing Judas Priest or Guns N' Roses...the choice would be fucking tough. Anyways man, take into account that Chinese Democracy isn't Guns N' Roses so anything on that doesn't represent Gn'R at all. Well i'd hope 100% of people say that Nostradamus is better than Chinese Democracy..... How you can compare G'n'R to Priest I have no fricken idea.............. I have heard Chinese Democracy (Didn't buy it... as if i'd pay money for any G'n'R), my impression.... It's very flat. There is nothing special about it that's for sure. I won't listen to it again.. waste of time. | | TIMBONI wrote: | | Well, it's finally over. It started out good. If you can get past the "it's not G&R" thing and take it for what it is, it got my attention through the first few songs. I can even look past the next couple of tunes not being "worth the wait". I really am trying to give this CD the benefit of the doubt, but I can't.
I really owe Priest an apology. I was quite vocal about waiting so long for their last CD. They took on one hell of a task and finished it more than 10 years faster than Axl ! It wasn't exactly my favorite Priest record, but it was better than Chinese Democracy and it didn't take a freakin' generation to finish. |

To be honest man, I actually bought the album(hear comes the garbage slinging from every hater on the site) I actually really like the album. It shouldnt be called a GNR album because the only thing that even slightly sounds like the original GNR is Axl's dieing vocals, and repetative ryhming and goofy lyrics. Music wise i think its a kick ass album, thanks to buckethead. Some how i think Axl probably got down on his knees and begged him to stay in the band. I wouldnt have bought it if he wasnt the main guitar player on it. Comparing it to Nostradamus is a joke though, no matter what anyone says Nostradamus is Metal, it may be slightly altered Metal through different songs, but still dominatly Heavy Metal. Chinese Democracy is some extremly mutated rock album. 14 ) Prostitute : Crap. Sound like a friggin' car commercial. |

Now some more cool guitar work. It's almost as if Axl is just creating sonic vehicles for guitarists. |

13 ) This I Love : So far . . . This I Hate ! Sounds like vocal scale training 101. Ok, maybe 102. |

Another aside comment . . . I'm really getting slapped in the face here. Now I am hearing exactly why my bands could not get past that final hurdle for a deal. We used to do the same shit that's being done here. Over thought, self indulgent, forgoing the passion for "musicianship and artistry". In the end, it just lays flat. |

9 ) Riad N' the Bedouins : Again, way too little for the amount of time spent. I've watched guys come up with a groovy little tune like this in an afternoon and it had a lot more balls than this over produced song. Again with the tapping, staccato solo crap. Gimmicks piss me off. |

Aside comment . . . It's obvious Axl has his shit together and is really trying to make something here. He just got too wrapped up in it and nobody had the balls to stop him before he fucked it up with too much thought. |

8) Scraped : Good groove, too polished. Would be sooooooo much better in a much more raw form. |

7) Catcher in the Rye : Generic. Tight for what it is. Expected a hell of alot more given the amount of time. |

All that crap said, the end of this tune rocks into a jam that kicks some ass ! Why . . . I don't know, but it's cool. |

6) There Was a Time : Odd tune. All over the map sonically and arrangement. Can't wrap my head around it yet. Separately the pieces are good, but together it's hard to make sense of it. It comes together at the end, but since the first part was so sporadic, it's difficult to understand how the song got here and why. |
