You do not have enough Respect Points to post in this topic.

I have not a clue about sales, but i would have said Stained Class/Killing machine/ Unleashed In The East would have put them on the map.

British Steel got their name in the Aerican Charts

Screaming 4 Vengence in 1982 was when Metal hit it big time on radio so S4V did very well, and they carryed on this with DOTF and Turbo but then alienated there fan base outside of the USA.
then Metal stared going down hill & so did priest and they went more underground, the fan base was still there record sales were not.

I believe that the first album to go platinum was turbo, then SFV (yes I know SFV was released first)...

mmmm.... about how rich they are, I have to be honest I have no idea, the last thing I heard or read related to that was that Glenn was selling a mansion in Spain, in 2006, valued in €4.5m.. but that's not a great clue.. anyway I don't think it's relevant to us knowing how much money they have in their bank accounts lol, but it will interesting to know how much money represents having sold almost 40 million albums worldwide..
About when the reached a relevant place in the music world as a metal band I would have to agree with you tasnam, around 1980 with British Steel, Unleashed In The East (1979) was thier first album to go Platinum (I'm prety sure of it, correct me if I'm wrong), but around 1982/83 the went mainstream due to Screaming For Vengeance.

I am not sure about the first part of your question, but I would be interested in the answer of others.

I know "reports" are that they have sold somewhere between 30-35-40 million albums worldwide.
Then add merchandise from tours, tour tickets, and online merchandise (probably not much online for them).

So if anyone has knowledge of the music industry they could comment on the items above.

As far as your second question, I think there are two answers:
#1  Die hard metal heads that had their thumbs on the metal scene, probably discovered them around British Steel era 1980.
But that most likely did not put them on the mainstream map per say- just among head bangers at that time - most likely.

#2 Screaming for Vengeance in 82 really shot them into the spotlight for financial and music success.

#2a (or #3)  If you wanted to say the next level (although controversial) would be Turbo in 1986.  Again sold out tours and higher record sales (compared to other albums than SFV), but notably Women & Jocks!!!!!

Just my thoughts.

Other peoples thoughts??????

How Rich do you all think that JP is.  Also, what Album put them over the top in terms of being relevent in the rock/metal world?

I have a lot of love and respect for JP.  It just tickles me that they got nominated for a Grammy, despite the fact that Nostradumas, was a conterverisal concept album for JP.
