Nostradamus was not a bad record at all. Just some of the songs wouldn`t lend themselves to be played live very well. But, there are still two songs from it that I hope become regulars in their setlist on future tours.
I`m sure their next record will go back to the barn burning style they have always done, and it will have some of those crown jewels on it, without a doubt!  |

I hope so as well. I've tried so hard to get into Nostradamus, but I think for the most part it sucks and it's their worst ever Halford fronted album. I think they realise that as well, they only performed a few songs from it during the tour to promote it and they seem to have dropped the idea of performing the whole thing live.

I agree, SFV put Priest over ther top. Too bad their not making this quality of metal right now.

I left out British steel and Screaming for Vengeance since I have allready mentioned them. But there`s no denying that they have many jewels in their crowns that have built them into the Titans they are today!

I agree with RonH, British Steel is a pivotal moment in Metal and the band`s history. But take a look at my personal favorite SFV, that one , with mainly one song, broke them into the commercial side of music , but there are so many strong songs that still stand out on that record.SRV stands out because it made the non-metal fans take notice.
You could say that about any of their albums, everyone, all the way back to their beginnings , has a monumental song (or two) on it.

I think it depends on a couple things.
If your talking about in regards to Metal history, I think British Steel would be Priest's crown jewel for what it represents in the grand scheme of things.
For another fan it might be Painkiller or the first album they listened to.
For me, on a personal level...I'd have to say it's SFV  |

I don't think BS is Priest's greatest album and its not my favourite but it was a landmark record (and prob their most important release) because it had some commercial stuff on it which made them a houshold name.
Also with BS they changed their style of writing which proved to be successful (a 'magic formula') and they stayed with this all through the 1980s.So i would say that they made the right record at the right time. |

My opinion only matters to me but I'll give it anyway. I think British Steel is a
fantastic album. It's what got me started on the Priest. Crown jewel? Probably not.
I think Staind Class is their crown. Love British Steel though. Loved the tour also!

| I think with a band like Judas Priest that has done so many albums and theyr all different it becomes hard to say one album is better than another but it is definantly one of the best they have released. |

| Yes and No. Musically it is not Priest best album, but for what it did for heavy metal as a whole takes it to another level. If it was all about the music Sad Wings of Destiny, Sin ater Sin or Stained Class would have my vote. I love the early Priest albums. |

| No, Stained Class, Painkiller and DOTF are all better than British Steel. United and Living After Midnight are terrible songs and I reckon Breaking The Law is boring as well. Six good songs out of nine does not make it the jewel in the crown. |

| In many cases, a group's most famous album isn't necessarily their best. In my opinion Iron Maiden did better albums than Number Of The Beast, Motorhead did better albums than Ace Of space and the Beatles certainly released albums superior to Sgt Pepper.
British Steel is by far and away Judas Priest's best known album. But is it their best?
I'm going to be very unoriginal here, because in my opinion it is. British Steel contains so much brilliant material. Yes it is commercial and yes it does contain some more simply structured than much of Priest's other output.
But does that really matter? Rapid Fire, Metal Gods, Grinder, The Rage, Steeler, You don't Have To Be Old and of course the evergreen Breaking The Law and Living After Midnight. The only slight blip is United.
Although the likes of Stained Class (a very close second), Killing Machine and Sad Wings Of Destiny give Steel a close run for their money, for me, British Steel is the Priest album I would save if my house was burning down. |
