Metalmaz, I am totally with you. Other users sort of justify Nostradamus on the basis that Judas needs to change and evolve. These are 2 different things. Like it was said, every single Priest album has been different form the previous one (some more than others - eg: Defenders is not very much different from Screaming, Turbo was a lot different from Defenders, etc) but it all seemed to be part of the evolution and, why not, time passing by. If a band would release today an album like British Steel, it would be out of place. Metal (traditional metal) has changed. Sounds changed. But the band is, with better or worse results, following a path, with ups and downs. But a coherent path.
The only songs that I can listen to from this album are Prophecy, Pestilence, Death, Conquest, Persecution, Nostradamus and Future of mankind. Are they all similar? No. Nostradamus definitely sounds like Painkiller (I ain't complaning!), but Death sounds very different, almost like Black Sabbath. BUT IT IS STILL METAL. Now, songs like Alone, to name one of the many, what genre are they?? Metal?? No. They are - yes, crap.
I guess this dissapointment is only comparable to the one I felt when Metallica released the black album. Atrocious. But I never thought Priest would do something like this.
And I can't understand a real Priest fan enjoying this release. I shouldn't be surprised, since there were also Priest fans that liked Two, and I didn't. But I didn't hate it either, because it wasn't Priest, it was Priest's singer exploring new ways. Not the same case here. |
