TOPIC: NOSTRADAMUS release
[The original Metallian] Friday, July 04, 2008 4:44:27 PM
To Where AmI:

I am glad you got past the senseless aggression - I came in to post an aggressive reply, but since you changed your speech let's move on.
Yes, I hate the album but I can listen to 7 songs out of 23 (if we consider the intros). I set my expectations really high when it comes to Priest. No one can do what they do, not even close, so 7 songs out of 23 could be OK for a band that I don't expect much from, like - I don't know - Van Halen. From Priest I expect a lot more than that. And I can "listen" to 7, but so far I enjoy 2 or 3. It all depends on who is releasing the album. That's why I hated Metallica's black album and everything after it. The black album would have been great for an average band, but for Metallica, after showing what they could do in Master and Justice, it was crap.
This is way more than "a ballad here and there" (I like Priest's ballads) - there are songs that don't even have guitars!! (if they do, they sound like synths).
I almost exclusively listen to my CDs in the car - the sound is awesome, I am alone in an enclosed room...this was no exception, but instead of enjoying it I found myself yelling "WHAT THE F**K IS THIS?!?!?" (literally).
I love German metal and Diamond, but I didn't feel any of that here. Sorry.
You seem to like a lot of good metal (mentioning German metal and Diamond) so I really can't understand how you liek this album. But - there is something for everyone in this world, I guess. Again - there were quite a few Priest fans who loved Two and I was banging my head against the wall...

To kit kat:
Very good point! I didn't think of "that" Priest. Songs like the ones you mentioned (Epitaph, Dreamer deceiver, Run of the mill) are by far my least favorites. When I think Priest I think mostly of Stained Class / Hell Bent for Leather and newer. From the first 3 albums I can listen to some songs and I skip the other ones. I guess those are the ones that several people like the most? But in my mind those songs are "to be forgiven" considering the age - new rock band, trying to make their way, find their style, not a lot of music around. Deep Purple's first 3 CDs were also crappy and then they released a masterpiece like In Rock, maybe the heaviest album of its time. So - when certain bands were (in my mind) clueless trying to find their style in the late 60s, early 70s I sort of don't hate their music, I just consider it part of taking your first steps. But Nostradamus is being released quite a few years and albums after that...
