Hugh Laurie who plays House is a great British comedy actor and has been on the scene in the U.K for over 25 years. The show you are thinking of is called Jeeves and Wooster. Laurie plays Wooster an upper class english idiot who is always getting himself into trouble. Jeeves, played by Stephen Fry, is his butler who always saves the day.
