I do understand, scorp. It is an awful feeling. Although I have never been in a position where I felt that I would lose my job, I have had to "let go" many, many people. Most of them were useless but there were the occasional good ones and it hurts. We always feel sorry for the other guy but when it happens to us, we are stunned. These are difficult times.
