Thank you all so much for your comforting words, support and genuine well wishes.
I'm sure that you all played a part in the news that I recieved late this morning:
Yuda does not have a broken back (thank God!) He does however have a severe pelvic fracture and his ball joint in his leg is split in two. The vet says that his options are to have a surgery that will cost me around R10 000 (not sure what that converts back to in your currency, I think it's around US$ 1000 I think we're R10 to the dollar now) Anyways, so if he has that surgery, there is no guarantee that he will have any more mobitliy than if he's left to heal naturally. Also, recovery will take a minimum of eight to nine months. If his ball joint is not healed in three months then it will have to be removed.. I'm not sure if this will mean just removing the joint or removing the entire leg. I'm hoping neither will have to go.
If all goes well, I'll be able to bring him home and start nursing him back to health tomorrow. Craig (my husband) wants me to take him to a vet that we both have great respect for as a second opinion. We only stopped seeing her because we moved to another city. She's about an hours drive from where we currently live so I'm thinking of taking Yuda's X-rays to her first for analysis rather than put him through a painful, long car journey.
I'll take what ever advice hers is and then we'll take it from there. I'm just so thankful that his back is not broken. He'll have a permanent limp (according to the vet who's seeing him now) but at least he will be mobile. It's going to be a very long road to recovery but one that I'm commited to.
Thank you all for making this a little more bearable for me. I have had such a rough weekend but I'm only starting to feel some relief now. My baby is going to get through this.
You guys are honestly the best friends that anyone could wish for.
YOU ARE THE BEST!!! and I love you all
