I was using AVG, always had, but have now switched to Avast. I'm only about 15 hours into the new system here, so the jury is still 'out' as far as if I think this is better or not, but I got bombarded by viruses at the beginning of April and AVG couldn't contain them. Hopefully I'll get one today, but I don't know what kind of sound card I should be looking for... thanks for the kind words. my comp. died (finally/again), but now I should be fine. i'm also using a different anti-virus now, which i think will be better. all i need now is a sound card (chip/whatever) and then all the planets will align (lol).
