Well, as you surely recall, the show often included "flashbacks" to his youth in the temple. As a very young child, he was in a garden with Master Po (the blind guy) and they were talking about awareness of one's surroundings. At one point, Master Po asked several questions and then said, "Can you not hear the grasshopper at your feet?".. Young Cain replied, " Old man, how is it that you can hear these things?".. and Master Po responded, "Young man..how is it that you cannot..?" After that, Master Po began calling him "Grasshopper". Honestly, I am not either! This was a television series back in the early-mid 70's. Sort of a combination of martial arts and westerns! It was set in the 1800's and he played a monk that was traveling around the "wild" west back then. It was a great show, man. I mean, one of my ALL time favs!

I saw all the posts and pics about David Carradine and his role in Kung Fu. I really LOVED that show. Does anyone here remember the segment in which he received the nickname "grasshopper"? Nice bit of easy trivia!
