Keyd, I wrote Heavy Metal, not just Metal...No, Led Zep is not Heavy Metal nor is Deep Purple, nor is most of the music put out before British Steel...I'm not sure where you get that so many albums are considered Heavy Metal?!? I was 14-15 yrs. old when it came out, so I pretty much have been around since before the term Heavy Metal referred to music. Keep in mind that we are all offering opinions here, so for you to refer to us as simple idiots is petty and juvenile...1980 was a great year for Metal, alot of great releases that year, I guess it's what one's definition of Heavy Metal is...and I don't really consider any band to have defined what Heavy Metal ultimately turned out to be until Priest released Hell Bent for Leather, and then took it a step further with British Steel in '80. Sure, Motorhead was faster and Sabbath was darker and Maiden, well, they didn't release their first 'til '80...UFO, Saxon, ACDC, Aerosmith, Foghat, Thin Lizzy, Bad Company, Foreigner, Cheap Trick, Montrose...the list goes on for those late '60 - 70's band's...none of which defined Heavy Metal as we know it today but Priest!!...FYI, I love Nostradamus and I agree with your opinion of it...but that is for my home, not headbanging for 2+ hours...no way!!...doen't mean I wouldn't go see it, 'cause I would, but I would be in a different frame of mind going in!!! We have seen them numerous times to death already. Plus Nostradamus sounds like it was done by a different band. One that is more technically advanced and deeper in feel, experiences, & intelligence. These shallow-simple-surface "hits" you call classics would sound a bit inferior anywhere in a Nostradamus set.
Ron anyone who calls Brittish Steel the first Metal album wasn't alive in 1980 or they were over 80 in 1980. So many albums have been "labelled" the first metal album. These statements are made by simple idiots who feel the need to label things to make it easier for them to confine them to a little box. Is Led Zep the first heavy metal band? Deep Purple? cmon! Ron you may be getting too old but with Nostradamus you will have time to recover after a much faster and more intense headbang than you will get with the slow dumbed down 4/4 of Brittish Steel. Headbanging with Nostradamus or opiate nodding and lighter waving with "United".
