[HOT ROCKIN' METAL GODDESS] Monday, July 06, 2009 11:16:04 AM
Pip,
I think the confusion is with the word classic.... Normally, classic would mean anything over 20 years old(that's the radio definition I think?). In this case, it refers to bands in a certain period of time - the '70s only - which were the bands that began and developed heavy metal. It is not a style of music that a band can start playing today and be classified as being that. So '80s bands can't be termed as classic heavy metal, because they are from the wrong period of time. Does that help clear up the muddy waters, at least a little bit?

It's just that what one may think of a band may differ so much from another's opinion--to say that this is the Classic Heavy Metal Thread---what one fan may think is classic may not what be everyone else is thinking
I think WASP is a classic heavy metal band but others might not think that--are they even classic ?? I feel they are--they're not as big as Motorhead or Judas Priest or Black Sabbath but in my opinion they are a classic heavy metal band
So my classic heavy metal band of the day is WASP ( I wish I could post pics !)
If somone wants to disagree with me then let's do it in a friendly banter & not all the name calling & such
