Spa, it was how many of them there were that shocked me. None of them asked me for anything, I got the feeling that they've already accepted defeat and were just waiting for it to end. When I spent a week up there last September, I'd walk from the hotel to the arena/convention center on the main drag and all along the way were the homeless, sleeping in the parkway and in the crevices of the old church there...truly disheartening. I'm not sure what happened to Detroit, but it was once a mighty city with a lot to offer. I can't believe it all is a result of the auto industry as there's so much more there than just that...it's a truly sad situation that's been getting worse (if possible) rather than better...
