I can't believe this is even being debated. Dio was great with Rainbow back in the early 70s but we're talking about completely different music. Ozzie's vocals add a personna and an eerieness to the music that Sabbath requires. Sabbath has never been the same without Ozzie. Someone mentioned Live Evil as proof. The music is great. Iommi and the boys are in true form but the vocals just don't fit. Listen to Dio's vocals on the song Black Sabbath. I hated it, he ruined the song. He talks half of it and growls the rest. Ozzie's range is a lot better than Dio's. Don't get me wrong, I think Dio is a fine singer, but when he is with Sabbath their songs end up sounding like Dio's solo stuff not Sabbath. There are many singers like Dio out there but there's only one Ozzie Osbourne. Maybe you would have had to be there in the beginning like I was to really appreciate it, I don't know, but I promise you that most Sabbath fans in their 50s, as I am, find it hard to even listen to Dio sing an Ozzie song. I have seen Dio live and it was a good show, very professional. I have also seen Dio with Sabbath right after Mob Rules was done and I found myself concentrating on the music in the old Sabbath songs and just tolerating the vocals. It just wasn't the same. It would be like Zeppelin reforming with David Coverdale on vocals. Coverdale is a great singer in his own right but he couldn't replace Robert Plant, as no-one could, and no-one can replace Ozzie with Sabbath.
