Would certainly agree with Green Day- I listened to them as a kid because everyone else did back then but unlike other bands from my earlier years which I then came to realise were actually a bit rubbish (eg. Linkin Park, Simple Plan) I have no nostalgic feelings for Green Day at all. They bore me immensely.
But I find it hard to beat up on Metallica- I love their new album, and they were the first metal band I ever listened to.
