From what I've seen, there's pockets of metal fans around the place, but not really any NZ metal bands or major metal scene around unfortunately - the best hard rock type band NZ has produced is a band called Shihad (their early stuff anyway, the General Electric is one album which was pretty good). There is a thrashy type band here called 8 Foot Sativa but I think they suck lol. Also some people may consider a band called Blindspott (sp?) metal, but I don't really think so, not much of a fan of them either. We do have what people call bogans here, I've been called one before cos I selected some metal to play on a jukebox at a function LOL! The music you see around the most is hip hop, which I personally can't stand. I always smile when I see kids walking around wearing a Motorhead, Iron Maiden, or any other classic metal band shirt - going a bit against the grain of what is popular here, keeping the heavy metal faith. The only way Priest could get a gig here would be as part of a festival. They toured Australia last year and were going to do a show here but they cancelled it. due to poor ticket sales I suppose.
