Hey Jimmy that was excellent. Not that crazy about the vocalist but it gets the job done. Is the entire album this good?

A lot of traditionalist stuff and also a lot of stuff that approaches metal from different angles. That's definately where the future of the genre is. In saying that though there's some good stuff in the US as well, it's just harder to find amongst all the commercial crap thats coming out there. Check out this from High On Fires latest album. Fucking Awesome!!!

There are more but I'm too lazy to put them now, maybe later.
Maybe any of these bands are great as the classics but at least they are trying to preserve classic heavy metal, and that cvounts for something, I guess.
And don't even make begin with oldschool thrash metal sound new bands, because that ones are in big ass amounts. | | J.D. DIAMOND wrote: | | I hear you Budred, but I'll be as you call it"stuck in the rut" listening to all my traditinal shit, fuck these "nu-bands" and thier "nu-sounds". Its not cool to "move on" without "true heavy metal". If there are no bands that take the torch from the masters then so be it,I'll listen to the shit that I've got already,I'm not going to "move on" and I'm not saying that your telling me to,I'm just saying that I'm a traditionalist when it comes to metal/hard rock and I can not and will not stomach bands that are not "cool" lol!!!!!
Heavy metal will die out like a smoldering fire and the fire is almost out already, and its because of there are not enough bands that want to carry on the traditional heavy metal aesthetics and most importantly the british style heavy metal sound, with "quality" song writting, there are simply just not enough bands that are willing to take it that far with heavy metal. When these godfathers of heavy metal retire I won't be buying anything new of heavy metal anymore, maybe a band or 2 but they will be far into the underground and obscurity for anyone to notice ect...
And as you wrote: Will I miss Priest and the other bands you mentioned? Of course I will, but I won't let it keep me from enjoying music.
When they retire I will enjoy the metal I already have,I don't need to listen to "nu" corporate watered down commercial rock like the terrible Disturbed..."sorry spa and Victoria" HA! | | Budred wrote: | | I'm not you so I'm surely not going to argue you're opinion. I've stressed that mine only matters to me.
I think those bands mentioned are quite heavy and I've already embraced the changes to metal. I don't
like everything out there but I didn't back in the day either. Everything changes, you can choose to roll with it or you can stay stuck in a rut. The great thing is that we all have the right to decide. When I say
(you) I mean everyone not you particularly. And, quite honestly, I enjoy many styles of music now not
just metal so it's easier for me to move on. Will I miss Priest and the other bands you mentioned? Of
course I will, but I won't let it keep me from enjoying music. I'm glad you disagree sometimes, it makes
for good discussions. It also gives me the opportunity to re-examine what I post and think it through.
On this one I stand by my (opinion) as I'm sure you will yours. Take care man, I enjoy this. It's why I'm here.
Peace! | | J.D. DIAMOND wrote: | | I couldn't "disagree" with you more here if I tried my hardest Bured. That is absolutely "untrue". Nobody in the realm of heavy metal wants "originality" to the point of crossing over the line leaving the heavy metal ballpark. They want "heavy metal" not alternative commercialism. You don't have to like them but look at old Running Wild, old early 90's Iced Earth.....when they were released people got into them, not complaining that they "sound too British -like"...they embraced it because it reminded them of old Iron Maiden,Judas Priest,Saxon..ect.... if you take that image & sound away too far,its not "heavy metal" anymore.
Disturbed,Godsmack,System Of A Down are not "heavy metal" they are an alternative hard-rock-nu commercialism, not "metal" they are far from being "metal". Trust me when Priest,Saxon,Black Sabbath,Dio,King Diamond,Exciter and even Maiden retire and there are no more bands to take thier place, you will be the first one bitching about how there are no bands taking the torch of british styled heavy metal. Watch. | | Budred wrote: | | I like J.D. so I hope he doesn't take this as a shot at him. If today's bands tried to copy
or maintain that British style of music we would probably be here complaining about how
there is no originality anymore. I think a lot of (us) older fans are resistant to change and
fail to give today's music a chance because of it. Do you remember when we were young
and the older folks were asking "WTF are you listening to?" "All they do is scream and (twang)
on those damn guitars." All the while you were wryly grinning saying to yourself "You don't
have a clue." Well the tides have changed and now were the ones asking "WTF are you listening to?"
I've always tried to not get stuck in a rut like that. I enjoy alot of today's bands. I could do without
most of the (growl) thing but no-one is going to like everything. I love bands like Disturbed, Godsmack,Slipknot, System... and others. I think as long as we have angry youth we'll have heavy music albeit
different than what were used to. I'm glad music is ever evolving. This is just my opinion. It only
matters to me. I'm not trying to change anyone, I'm just trying to provoke thought. Peace! Edited at: Sunday, April 25, 2010 8:07:44 AM |
