I tend to like the human element with regards to officiating, no matter the sport. I think we've all been on both sides of a bad call and it's weird because we only complain when it goes against us, yet cheer when we get lucky.
ALL of these off-sides calls are pure judgement calls as the action is fast and they have to make calls in a split-second. We fans watching on the TV really only know after seeing the slow-motion replay. 'Off-sides' seems to be the big difference maker this year, for a number of teams and not just the U.S. Although that sucks, there's been triple as many shots on goal going off the bar instead of in the net, I'm more concerned about that!!
I tend to think the sport needs better traing, maybe more ref's on the field or ref's not calling games of their own home countries (maybe that's a rule that's already in place, I don't know). What I do know is that if the U.S. made the goals they should have throughout the tournament, today would not have been so critical a match.
