I'm usually Humane. If you wish to be, buy a critter cage for muskrats and catch it. But, my general feeling about rats near my home is they pretty much deserve to die. Wild rats are nasty and carry disease, and can do all kinds of damge to a home. My suggestion is kill it before it decides to make your home, it's home.
