Absolutely Metallian!!!!!!!  Many great bands,my favorites are the 1980's black metal bands with obviously "Venom"  Mercyful Fate (Yes they were black metal!! lol!) Hellhammer,Bathory and Celtic Frost's first 2 albums,Possessed first album Seven Churches,Sarcafago's first album (1987) and Mortuary Drape too these are the black metal bands of the 1980's. Whats funny is that on Mercyful Fate's forum there are people arguing if MF were black metal or not?

And it cracks me up because in the early 1980's around 1984 the tearm "black metal" was alive and well, the media in the underground metal magazines used the tearm "black metal" for bands that were overtly satanic as they got it from Cronos of Venom as he said Venom were black metal, death metal, thrash metal, speed metal ect...he made up all these tearms around 1980 and it just stuck with the metal media when other bands started to emerge in the scene and Mercyful Fate were one of them.

They played more "heavy metal" than anything musically but with King being a real life "Laveyian Satanist" and belonged to the church of Satan back in the early 80's this was "shocking" and now today we are desensitized to all of these kinds of things, but back then it was "dark" and serious,King didn't goof around like he does in the King Diamond band.

And he didn't do many interviews so it made it very "cult" and very dark, especially with his upsidedown cross on his forehead with all his serious satanic lyrics too it was total "black metal" but today these kids think black metal is about corpse paint and blast beats from Norway, when in fact the Norwegians with Euronymous were inspired from these 80's bands and Mercyful Fate were one of them.

Whats also funny is that on lots of Norwegian black metal albums they even say "true Norwegian black metal" as they weren't claiming thier sound to be like Venom or Mercyful Fate, they had thier own brand of black metal. Yet these kids still think black metal has to sound like the Norwegian style.

The early second wave of Black Metal I also like with Mayhem but only with Euronymous, any Mayhem after his death I can't stand. Early Darkthrone, early Immortal, early Emperor,Gorgoroth,Carpathian Forest and Satyricon's first album Dark Medieval Times are cool.

Abigor (from Austria) first 3 albums are absolutely a "MUST HAVE" in your collection if you don't already have them,do anything you can to get them,Verwestung(Invoke The Dark Age)1994 Orkblut(The Retalliation) 1995 and Nachthymnen(From The Twilight Kingdom)1995 these are totally underrated black metal albums and were released at a time when black metal was hidden and very rare these albums capture this. I would go as far as saying that these 3 Abigor albums are just as good as any black metal albums from Norway in the early 90's.

Also check out  3 of Mutiilation 's (from France) albums  Hail Sathanas We Are The Black Legions 1993  "Black Melenium" 2000 and "Majestus Leprosus" 2003  these 3 albums I have on CD but they are sought after items and very hard to find but it is true black metal as Willy Rousel started Mutiilation in 1992.

2 of U.S. veteran "Akhenaton" aka "Judas Iscariot" albums to check out are 1998 "Heaven In Flames" and 2001 "To Embrace The Corpses Bleeding" those 2 albums are also a must have, Iscariot started in 1993,first album in 1995 but it wasn't as good. Get both of his other project "Weltmacht" both albums are cool "The Call To Battle"(1999) and ...To Every Beast His Prey" (2001) those albums are cool too.

And somehow if you can get Mortuary Drape's first EP "Into The Drape"(1992 but the album was written in 1987) they are from Italy and were out in 1987 and were one of the first bands to wear corpse paint along with Sarcafago back in the 80's.

There are others but I'd grab those first!  I have them all!!
