Very good jimmy .....bravo. I agree with Maiden's back catalogue except for your Seventh Son comparison, that album is nowhere near Saxon's last 7 studio albums neither is Somewhere In Time but I'll say that the first 5 Maiden albums are better than Saxon yes. This thread should of been "modern day" era for both bands. That being said Saxon is still up 13 to 4 and that is amazing. Most people including myself are giving Saxon credit for the last 15 years over Maiden, people are sick and tired of "The Final Frontier" kind of sounds, sure I still like AMOLAD minus 2 tracks but I see why people don't like modern day Maiden, thier sound isn't strong anymore while Saxon's sound is very strong and heavy.
Again,in my opinion the last 7 studio albums Dogs Of War,Unleash The Beast,Metalhead,Killing Ground,Lionheart,The Inner Sanctum and Into The Labyrinth totally 100% destroys and obliviates Somewhere In Time and Seventh Son,to me its like trying to compare Turbo(which would be S.I.T. and S.S.O.A.S.S) to Painkiller(which would be Saxon's last 7 albums).
I say Maiden. Reason being, the first seven Maiden albums are all brilliant, some of the best metal albums ever made. Even though Saxon are producing quality metal albums these days and Maiden are going more progressive, Saxon have yet to produce an album that comes even close to any of the first seven Maiden albums. In saying that though I still need to hear more of their stuff but I'd be very surprised if they had an album as good as Killers or Number Of The Beast or Powerslave or Seventh Son anywhere in their back catalogue.
