TOPIC: KK Downing Has Retired
[MetalPixie] Monday, April 25, 2011 10:30:39 PM
Greetings all.  Been eons since I've posted ... and the last time was due to the "farewell tour"announcement
(or possibly a request for Scottie pics!).
Just read through all the posts on this thread and it's amazing how "entitled" we all feel.
For as much as everyone says they appreciate the 40+ years of music he's given us -
many of us seem to have turned on him just because he made a decision we don't like or understand.
While it saddens me that KK has chosen to retire he doesn't "owe" us anymore than he's told us.
We have no idea what's gone on behind the scenes.
Heck - anyone who's even been in just a local cover band knows there can be a huge amount of turmoil among members - even if you are like family.
At least KK isn't bashing the guys individually or the band as a whole.
This band has ALWAYS presented a professional front ... unlike most of the train wreck bands in the industry.
And he's confirmed that his health is fine.
Would we really want him on the tour if his heart isn't in it?  For us OR for him?
How many of us have initially agreed to do something and then had second thoughts ... for whatever reason?
What a bunch of fair weather fans we are ... KK won't be there, so screw the whole band?  Makes no sense.
By the way - I don't disagree that this really should have been made public prior to tickets going on sale IF THEY NEW ABOUT IT and IF KK was ok with announcing it at that time.  But it shouldn't make that big a difference.  This is still a BUSINESS for the guys and their management team ... and we all know that not all business decisions are popular.
Perhaps KK agreed to tour until the band found a suitable replacement?  Who knows.
Priest survived even when Rob left (...and here come the anti-Ripper folks' comments...). Priest will survive even without KK.
Priest is a BAND ... it is greater than the sum of its parts.
Before you jump to conclusions - hear what they release.
Seriously - if you're willing to turn your back on the band that has done so much for you over the years, stay home.
You'll leave better seats for those of us who truly appreciate and respect this band for what it's been, what it is, and who each person is who has EVER been a part of the band and for those of us who want to celebrate that.
Take this for what it's worth to you ... the music world is watching us cave in on ourselves.  What an embarrassment to the band.
